The UPIS Boys Volleyball Team (UPISBVT) had a blurry start at the first UAAP High School Beach Volleyball Tournament.
The competition was held last February 1 and 2, at the SM Sands by the Bay.
The Boys faced their first defeat against Ateneo 21-13, 21-14, and University of the East (UE), 21-7, 21-7, on the first day. On the following day against Adamson, with the scores 21-11 and 21-6.
The Junior Maroons started with high confidence for their first game with the Baby Blue Eagles but soon surrendered due to lack of communication and defense resulting in Ateneo's straight-set win.
The first set of the second game against UE was a series of exchange of points until the errors of UPIS increased throughout the game, ending the set with a 14 point deficit. The Red Warriors controlled the second set with service aces as UPIS struggled in the receiving department, chalking in just 7 points in the second set.
UPIS started their third game strong against the Baby Falcons with their great defense but lacked in attack points thus ending the set with 21-11. UPISBVT tried to change their play but were soon dominated by ADU on the second set, who won the match with a 15-point lead.
“Una, paano mag bounce-back every after error, paano babawi, ganun. Sana magkaroon pa ng connection para mag-sync yung plays at magkaroon ng better communication, tiyaka lastly, mag-enjoy lang sa laro,” said team captain Miguel Castro when asked about ways on how they can improve as a team.
The team’s next game will be on February 8 against Far Eastern University (FEU) and De La Salle University (DLSU) and February 9 against National University (NU). //by Jelena Evangelista
