UPIS, nakibahagi sa PCRC


Lumahok ang ilang mag-aaral ng UPIS sa ikalawang Philippine College Radio Congress (PCRC) noong Nobyembre 28 at 29 sa Plaridel Hall, UP College of Mass Communication (CMC).

Dalawampung mag-aaral mula sa 12-Katarungan ang nakibahagi sa PCRC, isang proyekto ng UP Department of Broadcast Communication na nilalayong palalimin sa mga kalahok ang kanilang kaalaman at pagpapahalaga sa college radio.

Nagasagawa rito ng lecture workshops kung saan tinalakay ang mga paksang tulad ng Multimedia Ethics, Social Media Penetration, Gender Sensitivity, at The DZUP Story. Naging tagapagsalita ang mga propesyunal mula sa iba’t ibang sangay ng peryodismo na sina Prop. Rose Feliciano, Prop. Jane Vinculado, Bb. Ma. Amor Olaguer, Mr. Jerry Gracio, Bb. Cindy-Cruz Cabrera, Bb. Irma Mutuc, Atty. Roland Antonio Guia Jr., Prof. Jun Austria, at Dr. Elizabeth Enriquez.

“Marami ka talagang matututunan sa PCRC since ‘yung mga nagsasalita ay professionals and magagaling talaga. Sobra siyang makakatulong lalo na kung sa communications ‘yung gusto mong tahakin in the future. Pero marami rin ako natutunan na magagamit ko even though ‘di siya related sa course choices ko. Tulad ng advertising/branding, gender sensitivity, programming at marami pang iba,” pagbabahagi ni Julian Taloma, isa sa mga kalahok ng UPIS na kumuha rin ng kanyang internship sa CMC.

Students unravel truths in CA EMA Week 2017



Together with the Department of Communication Arts English, Music, and the Arts (CA EMA) students found light in the dark with this year’s CA EMA Week dubbed Silhouettes: Truths in the Shadows, held last November 21 - December 1.

The celebration began with the most-awaited Culminating Music Program where students performed various music styles they learned in music class. 7-Saturn, 8-Firefly, and 9-Xenon bagged first place in their respective grade levels.

As part of the event, representatives from each section competed in a spelling bee where Jamie Parungao (Grade 7), John Benjamin Diaz (Grade 8), Isa Isip (Grade 9), and Simon Valenzuela (Grade 10) were declared winners.

Students and teachers also took part in the traditional costume event, Literally Literary Day last November 23. This year, the department held a Costume Contest whose winners in the individual and group categories will be announced next year, January 2018.

Grade 12 students from the Instrumental Music class also held their recital during the week, and the Media Center (MC) 2019 staff conducted their #MCLive Culminating Activity which also served as a tribute and turnover Ceremony for MC 2018, the school paper’s editorial staff since 2015.

To close the event, the department also hosted the 10th year of Rhyme, Rhythm, and Reason (RRR) with the theme inTENse: Songs of the Decades. Mga magulang nagtipon para sa General PTA Assembly



Dumalo sa General Parent-Teachers Association Assembly ang mga magulang mula Kinder hanggang Grado 12 noong Setyembre 30 sa UPIS Gymnasium.

Nagtipon-tipon ang mga magulang para sa isang pangkalahatang pulong kung saan iniharap ang bagong Board of Directors ng PTA para sa Akademikong Taon 2017-2018. Nahalal bilang pangulo si Gng. Dolly Eloriaga at pangalawang pangulo si Dr. Lorina Calingasan kasama ang labintatlo pang PTA Presidents ng bawat grado.

Ilan sa mga napag-usapan sa PTA assembly ang paghaharap ng ulat-pinansyal ng nakaraang pamunuan ng PTA at ang pagpapatuloy ng mga proyekto ng nito gayondin ang pagpopondo sa iba’t ibang gawaing pampaaralan tulad ng Leadership Camp at Varsity Program.

Ipinakilala rin sa mga magulang si Dr. Lorina Calingasan bilang bagong prinsipal kasama ang kanyang mga katuwang na prinsipal na sina Prof. Rachel Ramirez (Assistant Principal for Academic Programs), Prof. Portia Dimabuyu (Assistant Principal for Administration) at Prof. Czarina B. UPIS, kasama sa pag-alala ng batas militar



Limang piling mag-aaral mula sa Grado 11 ang lumahok sa Martial Law Commemoration: Never Forget, Never Again sa Media Center ng College of Mass Communication (CMC) noong Setyembre 16.

Kinatawan nina Ezra Bustamante, Wenona Catubig, Storm Gatchalian, Anne Roxette Ticman, at Patience Ventura ang UPIS sa kumperensiya na proyekto ng University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication Interdependent Student-centered Activism (UP CMC ISA). Nilalayon nitong imulat ang mga mag-aaral hinggil sa epektong dala ng Batas Militar at himukin silang bumuo at magpahayag ng kanilang opinyon.

Nagkaroon ng tatlong bahagi ang komemorasyon - forum, essay writing, at poster making contest. Sumabak sina Gatchalian at Ventura sa essay writing habang sina Bustamante, Catubig at Ticman naman ang lumahok sa poster making.

Maliban sa mga patimpalak, sumali rin ang mga mag-aaral sa isang forum na tampok ang ilang personalidad mula sa akademiya, pamahalaan, at media. Tinalakay ng guro na si Prof. Zarina Joy Santos ang “Martial Law and Society” kaugnay sa pangkasaysayan at panlipunang aspeto ng Batas Militar. Nagbahagi naman ng mga personal na karanasan bilang biktima ng Martial Law sina G. Roberto Verzola, G. Ramon Sto. Domingo at isinalaysay ni Bb. Precy Dagooc ng Teatrong Bayan ang kuwento ni Tsong Levy dela Cruz noong panahon ng Batas Militar. Samantala, tinalakay rin ng editor-in-chief ng Philippine Collegian na si Ms. Mary Joy Capistrano ang kaugnayan at papel ng kabataan sa pagsulong ng katotohanan sa isyu. Sports: Junior Maroons drop first 4 assignments in PCABL



The University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS) Junior Maroons struggled to find their game and fell to a four-game losing streak in the Pilipinas Chinese Amateur Basketball League (PCABL).

Veteran guard Bryan Lina top-scored in their first game with 17 points, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds against Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) last August 18, 2017. In the end, it was the height advantage that gave the Ateneo an 11-point lead to win the game in 78-67.

Forward Matt Santiago chipped in 20 points in a hard-fought second game versus Adamson last August 21, 2017. The Fighting Maroons came back from a 25-point deficit yet missed the last shot in overtime to give Adamson an 80-78 win.

With 17 points and 10 rebounds, Santiago also led the team during their third game last August 27 when they battled against Chang Kai Shek College (CKSC). It was a close game in the first three quarters but CKSC gathered enough steam and dealt UPIS its third loss, 95-71.

The Maroons engaged in a heated game against UAAP rivals University of Santo Tomas (UST) Tiger Cubs last September 2 but failed to recover after a bad start to lose their fourth consecutive game, 88-75.

“Siguro yung consistency. Kasi ang basketball is a 40-minute game. Hindi pwedeng 30 minutes maganda laro tapos last 10 minutes wala na,” Lina expressed his thoughts on their points for improvement.

Batch 2019 holds UPIS Job Fair 2016-2017



Batch 2019 held the UPIS Job Fair 2016-2017 at the UPIS 7-12 ramp area last May 16.

The activity was done as a practical application of the lessons taught in their CA English 10 Business Communication class, particularly writing business letters and resumes, conducting and preparing for job interviews, and sending acceptance and rejection messages.

Awards were given to selected students and booths per section. Frequency, Sik-Love, and Oshop Peace were awarded as best booths for 10-Lauan, 10-Molave, and 10-Yakal respectively. Kobe Rivera and Chesca Joves of 10-Lauan, Jean Sabate and Telet Papa of 10-Molave, and Gian Palomeno and Yssa Luna were chosen as best dressed for each section.

Resulta ng Halalan 2017, inanunsyo na



Inanunsyo ang resulta ng Halalan 2017 para sa Pamunuan ng Kamag-Aral (pKA) 3-6 at 7-10, at Year-Level Organizations (YLO) noong Mayo 16.

Nanalo ang lahat ng miyembro ng partidong KAmpilan para sa pKA 7-10, sa pamumuno ni Erika Sasazawa (Pangulo) at Magan Basilio (Pangalawang Pangulo), maliban sa posisyon ng tagapamahayag na walang kandidatong tumakbo.

Nanalo rin ang buong KApit-bisig para sa pKA 3-6 sa pangunguna ni Erwyn Aenas Vibal (Pangulo) at Patricia Niña Chua (Pangalawang Pangulo). Nanalo rin ang independent candidate na si Patricia Leguiab bilang kinatawan ng Grado 5.

Ang Senior Council (SC) sa susunod na taon ay pamumunuan ni Jana Neri (Pangulo) samantalang abstain naman ang naging resulta para sa mga posisyong ingat-yaman at tagapamayapa.

Lahat ng organisasyon ay may mga posisyong nanatiling bakante na siyang pupunuan sa susunod na akademikong taon na pangungunahan SC at Executive Committee ng UPIS.

Dalawang beses iniurong ang mga deadline ng pagpasa ng mga Certificate of Candidacy at mga interview dahil sa kakulangan ng mga kumakandidato. Nagkaroon din ng recount ng mga boto sa Grado 9 dahil sa void ballots ngunit hindi nito naapektuhan ang resulta.

MC2018 stages first MCLive event



When your own words fail to speak for you, allow us to be your messengers.

For the first time in its history, the UPIS Media Center (MC) opened its doors to the UPIS community in an offline event called MCLive, with the theme “Unsaid, Untold, Unspoken” last May 18 and 19.

It’s not every day that Room 115, more commonly known as the MC Room, gets a make-over, but for two nights, it was completely different from its usually formal and classroom-esque feel. Blankets were strewn across the floor with random pillows here and there, and as the fairy lights cast their glow on the whole venue, the atmosphere was perfect for a night of your favorite acoustic melodies and unspoken words.

Days before the event, the staff wasn’t quite sure how far this would go, but much to our surprise, the event was a success, with the second day greeted with a full house. Hours before the doors even opened, the corridor was already packed with students lining up in hopes of getting a chance to witness the performers light up the stage.

Unsaid: If this is my last night with you...

To set the mood for the first night, MC 2018’s very own Carlos Laderas performed his first Spoken Word piece "Ayokong Matapos Ang Gabing Iyon."

Tripolar, Cosmos, Denice Palicte and Rene Rollon, Elkan Reyes, and Wim Rollon then serenaded the audience.

MC 2014’s Lance Reblando also owned the stage by singing and sharing experiences as a former Art Director of MC.

The second night was kicked-off by Cedric Jacobo and his piece, entitled “Rason.” For the rest of the night, FLL, Amamimamols, Hally Hernando, Keio Guzman and Patience Ventura, and Caitlin Norona and Adrian Bornilla took the MCLive experience to a whole new level.

Caitlin Norona’s performance was particularly astounding as she stole the hearts of the audience when she hit every note of Adele’s "All I Ask" perfectly.

But the whole affair wouldn’t have been an event of MC 2018 if we didn’t have performances of our own. Members of the staff stepped up to the challenge and delivered heartfelt acoustic songs, most of which were OPM, and gut-wrenching Spoken Word pieces for both nights.

“It was very frightening to perform in front of so many people, but I had fun even though I made a few mistakes,” admitted Fiel delos Reyes, one of MC 2018’s performers for Day 1.
Many on-the-spot performances and talents were also discovered during the open mic part of the program, where the audience and MC staff did not miss the chance of sending their messages through songs and poetry.

Other than the performances, another attraction for the whole event was the freedom board where the the question “Bakit hindi mo nasabi?” was asked. Answers like “I missed my chance”, “May thesis pa kami”, “Nasabi ko pero delivered lang”, “Naka-block ako”, and other answers laced with the woes of romance and what not were written on post-its and taped to the board.

It was quite amusing to read each of the answers because they served as a glimpse into the thoughts and emotions of the audience. Students and MC members alike flocked around the board as they read the musings and miseries of their schoolmates.

The audience was also encouraged to visit the “Say It With MC” booth, where they had the chance to request hand-written postcards, bearing their untold messages or random thoughts. Some of them even created their own works.

Unspoken: Sabihin mo na bago pa mahuli ang lahat.

The celebration also showcased an MCPakisabi Photo Exhibit dubbed “Pahaging”. Weeks before MCLive, the staff collected over 31 submissions from various students, as part of the event’s promotion. Short but captivating, the chosen statements were a perfect fit for the creative shots MC used for the display. “Sabihin mo na bago pa mahuli ang lahat” and “Invisible tears are the hardest to wipe away” are but two of the entries which could have sparked the interest of anyone who passed by the gallery to read them.

The funny thing was, there were only 6 submissions during the first week, but when the Documentation and Promotion committees got the bright idea to take their laptops and personally ask for submissions from the students walking around the first floor corridor, they were able to raise the number of submissions to 31. It was fulfilling to know that the students were curious about the event and were quick to share their own one-liners.

Despite the many obstacles that the staff had to endure, like the overwhelming requirements of Grade 11 students, the task of selling tickets over a limited period of time, the arduous task of moving around furniture amidst the unbearable heat, and preparing the venue for our eager audience, MCLive was definitely a success in our books. We may have had doubts about how the event would be received by UPIS, but the overwhelming support from teachers and students did not disappoint.

But behind the staff that took up the challenge of organizing MC’s first offline event are the Learning Coordinators who have stood by us since the start of our journey as MC 2018. To close the second day, Ma’am Cathy and Ma’am Wena expressed their utmost thanks for the support that MC has received, both online and offline. They shared their hopes that, in the very near future, MCLive will be brought to an even bigger stage, for an even bigger audience. (And we all sincerely hope you’ll come along for the ride.)

We all entered the room with things unspoken, but as the night came to a close, we knew that our messages have been told, with nothing left untold and unsaid.

Tinig Bulilit, Higanteng Panaginip, itinanghal ng Teatro Munti


Isinagawa ng organisasyong Teatro Munti ng Departemento ng K-2 ang programang “Tinig Bulilit, Higanteng Panaginip” noong Mayo 12 sa UP School of Economics Auditorium.

Ang programang ito ang nagsilbing culminating activity ng kanilang organisasyon. Nagpakita ang mga miyembrong mag-aaral ng kanilang talento sa pag-arte, pag-awit at pagsayaw. Itinampok ng mga nila ang kanilang mga inihandang sayaw, at awit. Kabilang din sa kanilang mga naging presentasyon ang sabayang pagbigkas, at pagtula.

Mga Isko at Iska, hinikayat na manindigan para sa karapatang pantao


Idinaos ang UPIS Parangal 2017 sa UP National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development (NISMED) Auditorium noong Mayo 5.

“Iskolar ng Bayan, Manindigan para sa Karapatang Pantao” ang naging tema ng Parangal sa taon na ito. Nagbigay ng talumpati si Prop. Ranjit Singh Rye na isang propesor ng Political Science sa UP Diliman College of Social Sciences and Philosophy at alumnus ng UPIS. Si Prop. Rye ay kabilang sa Batch 1988.

Sa kaniyang pahayag, ibinahagi niya ang kaniyang mga naging karanasan sa panahon ng Martial Law. Nag-iwan rin siya ng hamon sa mga mag-aaral na manindigan at makibahagi sa pagbabago sa bayan.

Tumugon naman sa paunang talumpati si Wenona Dawn Catubig, Huwarang Mag-aaral ng Grado 10. Binigyang pansin ni Wenona ang kahalagahan ng pagiging mulat sa mga isyung panlipunan gaya ng extrajudicial killings at kung paano nito nilalabag ang ating karapatang pantao. Isinalaysay din niya ang mga karanasan niya tungo sa pagkamit ng kaniyang parangal.

Idinaos ang Miting de Avance ng mga partido para sa Halalan 2017 noong Mayo 2 at 3 sa UPIS 7-12 Building sa pangunguna ng Senior Council (SC).

Iprinesenta ng mga kandidato’t partido ang kanilang mga plataporma sa mga estudyante at guro na dumalo. Pinagtuunan ng mga partido sa kanilang mga plataporma ang kahalagahan at pagsusulong ng pagkakaisa at pagkakapantay-pantay sa paaralan.

PAKIKIBAHAGI. Nagbigay ng ilang katanungan si Fred Samonte, kasalukuyang Presidente ng Student Council, para sa mga kandidato ng partidong KAmpilan. 


Isang partido lamang ang tumatakbo para sa Pamunuan ng Kamag-aral (pKA) 7-10. Gayundin, may tig-isang partido rin para sa Freshman Association, Sophomore Association, Juniors Association at Senior Council.

Samantala sa Grado 3-6, tumatakbo ang partidong KApit-bisig at dalawang independent candidates para sa pKA 3-6. Nakatuon ang kanilang mga plataporma sa kalinisan ng paaralan.

Math & Sci Dept. launch (STEM)2



In commemoration of Earth month, the Science and Mathematics Department celebrated (STEM)2: Searching Through Earth’s Mysteries using Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics last April 18-22.

The project aimed to promote Earth awareness among students by organizing activities beyond classroom experience that foster Math and Science appreciation and skills. The MathSci Camp 2017, an overnight event that served as an avenue to further broaden interest in Math and Science, capped off the celebration.

Pautakan sa Agham at Matematika 2017 was also held, wherein the teams of Vienne Angeles, Robert Ambat, Aldrin Baysa, Craig Aquino, and Deborah Argayosa from Grades 7-11 and and Julian Zafra, Elis Reyes, Aenas Vibal, and Ashley Talabucon from Grades 3-6 won first place. Other activities included exhibits, Breakout, and a school-wide Human Bingo.

UPIS bags 1st runner up in AECES Con 2017

Grade 11 students Ernest Arceo, Dani De Leon, Denice Palicte, Rene Rollon II, and Nica Sampan bagged first runner-up honors at the ideation competition of the first Ateneo Electronics and Computer Engineering Society Convention (AECES Con) 2017: Green Tech which culminated last April 1 at Escaler Hall, Ateneo De Manila University.

Their project idea E-WASTO: Sustainability in One Tap featured E-WASTO, an app programmed to manage e-waste on an institutional level by connecting consumers to official Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs) that can properly handle e-waste.

Green Tech is a two-Saturday convention on renewable energy, energy management, and e-waste management held last March 25 and April 1. The convention featured talks and presentations by key figures in the industry and culminated in the ideation competition wherein participant schools made business models about ways to solve problems on e-waste and renewable energy.

Two other teams from 11-Del Mundo also participated in Green Tech—Franz Candido, Rita Isabel Colina, David de Layola, Urielle Lilang, and Ralph Daniel Novilla of Team CHANGE and Adrian Bornilla, Ryan Dimayuga, Charles Epino, Tricia Raza, and Julia Reyes of Team Agos. The three UPIS teams joined forces to win first place in an informal quiz bee during the convention. Mr. Archie Maramag of the Science Department advised all 3 UPIS teams.

“It was a one-of-a-kind experience, something you can't simply pick up in class,” shared de Leon regarding her experience at the AECES Con.

Summer uniform sa UPIS, naipatupad na



Opisyal nang ipinatutupad sa mga estudyante ng UPIS ang pagsusuot ng summer uniform nitong Martes, Marso 21 bilang paghahanda sa mainit na panahon sa oras ng klase.

Ang summer uniform ay binubuo ng puting t-shirt na may bagong UPIS logo at shorts sa mga estudyanteng lalaki sa K-2 at slacks para sa 3-11. Sa mga kababaihan ay skirt mula K-10 samantalang slacks naman sa mga estudyanteng babae sa Grado 11.

Bago ang pagpapatupad, nagsagawa ng sarbey ang pamunuan ng UPIS sa mga mag-aaral kaugnay ng pagkakaroon ng bagong uniporme tuwing tag-init. Itinanong din sa sarbey kung ano ang nais ng mga mag-aaral na gamiting pang-ibaba sa kanilang summer uniform . Nanalo sa sarbey ang pagkakaroon ng bagong uniporme ngunit nais nilang panatalihin ang pang-ibaba ng kanilang regular uniform.

Grado 11, lumahok sa pilot testing ng AFPSAT





Sumailalim ang mga mag-aaral ng Grado 11 sa pilot testing ng Armed Forces of the Philippines Service Aptitude Test (AFPSAT) noong Pebrero 23.

Pinangunahan ng ilang sikolohista at sarhento mula sa AFP ang nabanggit na gawain.
Ayon sa mga nagsagawa ng pilot testing, ang mga resulta, komento, at mungkahi ng mga mag-aaral ay gagamiting batayan ng AFP para sa ibayong pagpapabuti ng AFPSAT.

Ang pagtugon ng paaralan sa imbitasyong ito ay nagsilbing tulong ng UPIS para sa Sandatahang Lakas ng Pilipinas. Bukod dito, makatutulong din ito sa paghahanda ng mga mag-aaral ng Grado 11 sa nalalapit na University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT).

Ang AFPSAT ay ang pagsusulit para sa mga nais maging opisyal o kawal ng Philippine Army. Nilalayon nitong tiyakin na pasok sa mga pamantayan ng institusyon ang mga tatanggaping aplikante. Kasalukuyan itong nirerebisa bunsod ng K-12 curriculum. //ni Cedric Jacobo

News: GP Project sends 16 Ehime students to UPIS


Sixteen students from the Ehime University in Japan visited UPIS last January 22-28 through the Good Practice (GP) Project.

Now on its 10th year, GP aims to deepen students’ cultural understanding through classroom teaching and observation experiences for its participants.

The students taught Science in Grades 1 and 11, Social Studies in Grade 3, and Mathematics in Grade 5. It was the first time through this project that the students were able to teach all sections of each grade level.

They also visited Krus na Ligas High School and San Vicente Elementary School to observe classes and took a study trip to the Taal Lake crater.

Three professors headed by Prof. Kiwame Kouno came with the students who are mostly in 3rd year college.

Another batch of students is scheduled to visit UPIS on February 19-24 and will observe classes as a step course to enable them to teach the following year. This is the first time for the GP Project to accommodate two batches of students in one year.

UPIS goes behind closed doors in CA EMA Week 2016



Doors were unlocked and pretenses were unveiled as UPIS celebrated the mystery-themed Communication Arts – English, Music, and Art (CA EMA) Week 2016 on November 15-19.

With the theme BEHIND CLOSED DOORS: Things Are Not What They Seem, events included in the 4-day celebration were intended to help develop the students’, teachers’, and staff’s genuine love for reading. Activities and competitions throughout Grades 3-11 include the spelling bee, book exchange, DEAR Day, and the Literally Literary Day (LLD).

The much-awaited Literally Literary Day wherein students, faculty, and staff come to school dressed up as literary characters was celebrated on November 17. Group representatives of each class from Grades 7-11 were given scenarios and performed at the Auditorium while individual representatives from Grades 3-6 were only asked to present their characters and performed at the Bulwagan. Group representatives of 7-Venus, 8-Dragonfly, 9-Zinc, 10-Yakal, and 11-Jaena were crowned as victors while Raiven Pascual of 3 - Dagat, Alexandra Blasi of 4 - Mustasa, Micheal Emery Go of 5 - Banahaw, and Dean Carmelo Cabrera of 6 - Perlas won in Grades 3-6.

Groupings for the LLD in Grades 7-10 were based on their household groups in English class while those in Grade 11 were based on their thesis groups.

This year also marked the launch of the Book-crossing activity, inspired by blind-date-a-book which gained popularity on the internet. Students were required to bring pre-loved and read books, wrapped in Manila paper with a note for the receiver. Books were then exchanged within or among sections through random raffle picks. After reading, receivers were asked to reply to the note from the sender, reminiscent of the DEAR Day tradition. Owners had the option whether to give away the book or ask for it to be returned. The activity aims to pique students’ interest in reading by exposing them to different genres of literature.

The spelling bee was held on November 15 in which six students from each grade level orally spelled the words asked of them. Felicity Gutierrez of 7-Neptune, Isabelle Ann Isip of 8-Dragonfly, James Tolosa of 9-Calcium, and Craig Aquino of 10-Lauan won in Grades 7-10. Sofia Tan of 3-Dagat, Aila Orillaza of 4-Mustasa, Stephanie Enaje of 5-Cordillera, and Joshua Nabur of 6 – Brilyante are the champions in Grades 3-6.

Festivities for the CA EMA Week 2016 were drawn to a close with the celebration last November 18 of the 9th Rhyme, Rhythm, and Reason (RRR). This year, it was held in memory of former UPIS English professors Prof. Nora Agbayani and Prof. Violeta Tandoc who passed away recently. The UPIS faculty and staff’s performances were interpretations of chorale-like recitation of lyrics to various songs–pieces Prof. Tandoc used to fondly ask her students to perform in class.

Pagtatapos ng Buwan ng Wika 2016 sa UPIS, ipinagdiwang



Idinaos ang pagtatapos ng Buwan ng Wika 2016 noong Setyembre 6, mula ika-12 ng tanghali hanggang ika-1 ng hapon sa Auditorium ng University of The Philippines Integrated School (UPIS).

Nagtanghal dito ang mga seksyong nagwagi sa kumpetisyon sa kanilang batch. Isinadula ng 7-Neptune ang kwento ng “Alamat ng Araw at Gabi” na sinundan naman ng 8-Dragonfly sa kanilang pagsasadula ng kwentong Maranao na “Ang Magkakaibigang Hayop.”

Samantala, nagwagi naman ang 9-Calcium sa photography contest na may temang “Wika ng Karunungan at Kamalayang Bayan.”

Itinanghal din ng 10-Yakal ang kanilang piyesa na pinamagatang “Umaga, Tanghali, Gabi” matapos maipanalo ang kauna-unahang spoken word poetry competition sa UPIS.

The very first issue of Ang Aninag, the official school paper of UP Integrated School (UPIS), was released in 1973. The paper was usually printed in broadsheet size, with exceptions of special editions printed in Berliner.

The paper included articles about events from June-September 1973.

Throughout its publication, the printed paper had the following recurring sections: News, Opinion, Sports, Features, and Literary. Also included were games such as crosswords puzzles or photo quizzes. The layouts mirrored that of newspapers published in the country.

New volumes were released yearly and noticeable transformations are seen in each edition, including new logos and section titles. Staffers had the choice to use their full names or initials in articles and pen names in literary articles.

A big difference, however, lies in the writing itself as words, terms, and styles used have definitely changed as time went by.

On August 27, 2011, the UPIS community celebrated the birth of yet another vital piece of its identity: Ang Aninag Online.

Led by Media Center (MC) 1 2012, the launch of the first official, and so far only online student publication of UPIS, was a huge jump from the print media tradition of the school to cater to the changing interests of its audience.

Ang Aninag Online’s first publishing day featured only news articles and was a success despite the lack of other official social media accounts of the Media Center.

A lot has changed since then. Through the years, both casual and avid readers have seen the addition of the other regular sections, particularly Sports, Opinion, Features, and Literary. They have also contributed to the rise of publishing traditions, such as Creative Writing Projects, MCPakisabi, MCSagutan, and Di MaAninag (the online paper’s spoof edition).

Yearly, there is a steady increase in the number of MC staff members and various writers have continuously created a solid following. There is also a marked increase in page views and in 2013, Ang Aninag Online hit its first thousand view mark, shortly after the establishment of its official Twitter account (@upismediacenter) and its official Facebook page (UPIS Media Center).

As Ang Aninag Online approaches its fifth year, its evolution has been off the charts. The debut pub of MC 2018, for example, set an exceptional record for number of views with a whopping 6,186. Though technological advancements did help pave the way, it is the spirited fervor and sincere enthusiasm of the staff and readers that carried the online paper to what it is today.
