Batch 2021 reaches out to orphans
The UPIS Sophomores held an outreach program last February 25 at Gentle Hands Inc. in Quezon City.
Led by the Sophomore Association (SoA), the outreach, which included getting-to-know activities, games, and sharing of snacks, aimed to celebrate and spread love to the ones in need. Twenty-eight (28) orphans and 33 student volunteers participated in the outreach.

Bree Catibog, Business Manager of the SoA, shared how seeing the orphans enjoy their program was heartwarming and made all the challenges they met gratifying. “Thankful kami na despite all the problems na na-encounter namin sa planning, naging successful yung event kasi sobrang solid talaga ng araw na yun so super worth it lahat ng effort namin,” she shared.
Batch 2021 raised funds and resources through a raffle draw. Winners were drawn on February 14 and were given prizes sponsored by various individuals affiliated with the batch.

gentlemen of Batch 2021 (Grade 8) strike a pose by the stage before their
Hawaiian-themed Acquaintance Party comes to a close.

The acquaintance party (Acque) hosted by Batch 2021 for Batch 2022 took place last October 28, 4 PM at the UPIS Bulwagan 3-6.
This year’s acquaintance party theme drew inspiration from the luau, a traditional party or feast in Hawaii. The Sophomore Association (SoA) decided this was most fitting for the purpose of the Acque in strengthening the bond between the two batches. “Since party po siya, ang title po namin ay LuWOW. ‘Yong ‘wow’ po kasi gusto namin sila mapa-wow sa party,” SoA president Jammy Mapa adds.
The Acque is an annual event organized by Grade 8 students to welcome the Grade 7 students, both homegrowns and lateral and VAAS entrants, to the high school. It also aims to promote inter-batch camaraderie through the enhancement of social skills.

Eighteen teams composed of students from both batches were formed. These groups then competed in a series of games, namely Limbo, Hula Hoop, Kimo Says (Simon Says), Bring Me, Pun Wars, and Charades. Group 1 won the competition with a perfect score of 300.
Handmade leis were created by the SoA as welcoming gifts for each guest, including the officers and advisers of both YLOs. They also greeted guests with the Hawaiian salutation “aloha”.
Reneil Grimaldo of 8 – Ladybug, Kyle Mararac of 8 – Beetle, and Gian Manalo of 7 – Venus were the program’s emcees.
Although the SoA’s preparations for the Acque were met with a number of challenges, such as field demonstration practices of the elementary students coinciding with the event, it was well worth it because they were able to host an enjoyable party. //by Trisa de Ocampo
