Literary (Submission): The Letter I Needed

Hello,

You’re probably in a room full of geniuses right now, wondering why you deserve to be in there. They’re all talented in every way possible and you’re not even a master of anything. You’re a terrible speaker, a bad illustrator, and a decent photographer. But at least you know how to write a proper paragraph.

You’re also probably overthinking, down to the most minute of details, if you’ll be able to graduate next year or if you’ll be able to make your family proud with a diploma, or maybe even a medal.
However, as the year passes by, you’ll find out that the stress and pressure you went through just to be what you think is the best version of yourself, is useless.

Senior year is not for you to shine the brightest rather it’s a time for mistakes and embarrassment. Speak in front of a crowd, fail a class, pass a requirement late, and most especially, write without regrets. These are some of the things you won’t be able to do once you don that sablito (sash) you’ve desperately been longing for.

Being part of a family of writers does not mean you have to be the best one there is. You’ll soon realize that these geniuses aren’t so different from you. They’re as confused as you are and they’re not here to make you step up your game or pressure you into being an outstanding writer and editor. They’re here to help you grow and support you in whatever you dream of doing.

So pick up that pen, or more likely, that laptop of yours and write down everything that comes to mind. Ideas fly faster than you think, and knowing you, you probably won’t remember them. The number of drafts you have is simply a social construct to tell you that you already need a final idea. Don’t mind that, you can make as many as you wish. The number of drafts you have is not even your biggest problem. Hitting a wall is far worse, especially when you’re deadline is only a few hours away. During these times, you only have two options: you either break it down or dig a hole right under it. Giving up shouldn’t be in your vocabulary. But don’t fret too much, the words you need would come randomly to you in the most ungodly hour of the morning or at an absurd time during the night.

As a farewell, I am going to let you in on a little secret: being terrible at something only gives you a bigger room to grow. In the end, when the final note in UP Naming Mahal resonates inside that theatre, no one would remember how good you were at playing the guitar, or singing, or even writing. In the end, you’ll all be remembered for being part of a family tied together by smiles, tears, and glory.

Love the people (and things) around you and let that love bleed out onto the pages.

God knows I would’ve done the same if I were back in your place.

From someone you probably stressed a lot about,
[Morayta]

Literary: Para Sa ‘Yo

Magulo, maingay, marumi, walang pag-asa

Saya, tuwa’t galak
Di kita kilala
Sapagkat ang silbi mo’y tapos na

August 2005
Hello you,

This was a sunny month and normally, I would have given anything to be able to enjoy days like such outside.

But instead, I’m stuck in a four-walled room, with mirrors on all sides. I see myself clearly every day, a high-spirited teenage girl, hoping to be a woman soon. I see the gleam of excitement reflect from my eyes and I knew I was finally doing the right thing. The one thing I have been wanting since I could walk on my feet. The one thing I have given everything up for. The one thing I am willing to die for.

Of course, dreams don’t come to us on a silver platter because if they do, then I wouldn’t be here for the past weeks. We have to sweat for it and in my case, I have to stay up all night, go through vigorous training, damage and fix my voice at the same time for it.

I also have been constantly in pain. Aside from the cruel hours and lack of sleep, my body was asked to deny itself food for as long as it can so it could fit in the clothes they gave me. Shiny, skimpy clothes that I don’t usually wear. However, they said they looked good and I chose not to complain.

With all these challenges, everyone expected me to give up in a few days’ time. What they didn’t know was that I was only getting started. I was going to show them that this girl is not a quitter.

But I wish my dreams would come true, soon.

May 2006

Hello you,

More than a year has passed since I started and earlier this evening, I was finally the star of the night.

Everyone craned their necks to get a glimpse of me. Everyone fought the crowd to shake my hand. Everyone wanted to know who I was.

With the overwhelming mix of shouts, orders and camera clicks, I wasn’t able to hear myself think. It was noisy, but it was my cloud nine.

I guess my dreams are already coming true.

December 2007

Dear you,

It’s been a long time for I don’t even have the luxury to sit down and write.

To say it simply, it’s been a whirlwind.

In a span of a few months, people know who I am. Ask anyone, and I can bet they’d know me.
The attention never tired me out and I was actually ecstatic over the fact that I was noticed after all this time.

Along with everything that’s been happening however, I cannot deny that I miss my parents dearly. Every take-out food I eat, I craved my mom’s homemade dinner. Every storm that would hit, I pined for my dad’s warm embrace. It’s been long, too long since I last saw them.

But I had money as my guardian and fame as my friend.
What else could I ask for?
I had everything I ever wanted.

Finally, my dreams did come true.

April 2009

Dear you,

I became used to everything. The lights, the screams, the constant demand for my presence. The hands that were out to get a piece of me. The eyes watching my every move. The cameras catching everything on film.

I was always careful not to slip up. I decided a long time ago to bury my abnormal, unflattering self in this sparkling yet fake façade.

But apparently, it wasn’t enough.

My haven turned into a warzone overnight. And the biggest problem of them all was that I didn’t even do anything they accused me of.

I was planning to tell the truth, to come clean and maybe, the backlash wouldn’t sting so much. But they said I couldn’t. “To tell the truth is like digging your own grave.” They said.

But even when everything was settled and peace reigned once again, I could still hear my well-built image slowly cracking.

I wish these nightmares would end.

January 2011

Dear you,

I thought the worst was over, that I had weathered the storm. But sadly, it was not.

Soon enough, newcomers were lining up to take my place. Young, pretty things are threatening to replace the legacy I was planning to leave behind.

And worst of all? The people who used to stay by my side, in a blink of an eye, left. The ones who used to protect, now attack. The ones who used to comfort, now shame. And the ones who showed me my purpose, now give me the reason to end everything.

Can someone just wake me up from this nightmare?

May 2014

Dear… someone,

I now stare at the reflection in the mirror.
I don’t know who this woman is. With her curled-up hair, red-tinted lips and face void of any flaws.
And the glint of youth gone, despite her still early age.

She moves, breathes, and stares when I do. But I’m not her. I cannot be.
This woman sold her soul to the devil in exchange for a silly, old children’s dream.
She lived the life of a puppet and said nothing for her own sake.
She resorted to all kinds of vices to try and remember who she really was. To no avail.

All these, for what?
A few moments with her name up in lights. Soon replaced with something, or someone, younger, prettier.

Better.

She was expendable and she didn’t know it. The poison of fame has gotten to her faster than she could say “wake up.”

And this ambition of hers? The one she was so eager to die for, has now killed her.

I just wish her dreams didn’t come true at all.

Literary: Ikaw ang Sining

Ikaw, musa, ang aking sining:

AKDA
Sa bawat taludtod ng aking tula,
Ika’y nananahan, aking sinta;
Ang bawat gamit ko ng wikang matalinghaga,
Sa iyong magandang diwa’y tumutugma

Ngunit ano’ng kakayanan ng aking wika
Upang tunay na maipakita ang iyong ganda?

GUHIT
Sunod sa ’yong porma ang aking mga linya;

Ang iyong karikta’y sinusubukang makuha;

ISKULTURA
Sa iskultura naman ika’y makikita,
Itinatanghal ang iyong anyo’t itsura;

IKAW
Kaya’t ikaw mismo ang sining, mahal:
‘Di sa ’kin o kahit kanino man;

Hindi sapat ang wika ng simpleng makata,
Walang binatbat ang marmol at pintura,
Sa iyong kadalisaya’t natatanging ganda,
Sa iyong purong ngiti at kahali-halinang tawa;

Anumang subok ikaw ay salam’nin,
Anumang subok ‘yong diwa’y hulihin,
Hindi sapat ano man aking gawin,
Sapagkat ikaw mismo ang kasukdulang sining

It was always the same color. The same size. And the same pattern.

You were just one of my classmates.

But I did know you well from observation. You were friendly but reserved. Unbelievably smart but rarely took notes. Has a fear of authority but stubborn. And you always had a bandanna with you and I associated you with it. You never failed to bring one as far as I could remember.

But aside from that, we weren’t close. I could probably count in one hand the times we interacted or even said a word to each other.

And to be honest, I never took a second look at you, or even thought of doing so.

It was still the same color. And still of the same pattern. But it was larger than before.

You dropped it one day and coincidentally, I was the one in front of you when you did so.

Cliché it may seem but when we both reached for it at the same time, our hands created sparks no fire ever could.

We looked at each other and instead of slow, romantic music accompanying the moment; your laughter filled that almost-empty hallway. Fate had its way and that small piece of cloth brought us together.

Soon, philosophy readings and trigonometry problems became our pastime. When we both couldn’t comprehend a single thing, we would give up together. But in those rare moments when we could understand, even just one lesson, we would rejoice. We would give each other high-fives, jump around a little and at times, I even allow myself a giggle or two because of your crazy antics.

Sometimes, I even create puns for us to be able to remember the lectures better. I would laugh before I could even deliver the punchline and you would too but you never let me see your face when you do. Hiding behind it, you would choose to further suppress your sniggers and I would be left utterly mystified as to why you do that.

It was now embroidered. A little larger. But still of the same color.

Readings became ice cream cones and equations became shared earphones.

We never did have the same taste in music but when it comes to The Beatles we would instantly agree. Lazy afternoons turned into mini concerts of imaginary drums and air guitars. The quality of our vocals wouldn’t matter for we were both off-key, and that made it okay.

When it became too warm, we would buy ice cream.

Not those fancy, in-a-cup ones that cost more than half of my weekly allowance but the ones that come in cones, bought in side streets and can surely help us beat the heat.

The only problem is, I was clumsy. I would always end up dripping some on the ground even before it actually melts, or if I’m lucky, it would just mess my face up.

You would hand me that piece of cloth without a word and I would shamefully take it. I would silently apologize for my childishness but I would secretly smile into it while wiping my face clean.

And during those times, I was glad you were there.

It was embroidered, large and now, of different colors.

Without noticing it, time flew by and I felt different.

Every time you would approach me, time would freeze, in a way no sci-fi movie or any law of physics could ever explain.

Every time you would look at me, I couldn’t bring myself to look back, for your eyes, I realized, held more stars than the galaxy ever could.

Every time you would laugh, I couldn’t help but to laugh along for even the greatest composer in the world couldn’t create an arrangement that could compete with your sounds of amusement.

And every time you would smile, no alarm, no coffee and no loud shrieks could ever give me as much energy in the morning as much as that does.

It was still embroidered, large but now, just really, really blue.

After a long time, I couldn’t quite hold it in anymore.

I had to get my feelings out somehow, and I planned to do it in the most subtle way possible, by simply asking you what I was to you.

I didn’t want to hope but I did. I didn’t want to expect anything, but I did.

I didn’t want to be disappointed, but I was.

Shouldn’t I be happy? Or at least contented? That you consider me your friend?

I should be, but without knowing it, tears flowed and I couldn’t stop. You panicked; it was evident in the way your lips tightened so you quickly grabbed the fabric from your pocket and helped me dry my tears.

I put too much meaning in the times we spent together, I put too much feelings into something uncertain and I risked too big of a part of my heart.

You left, after I decided to swallow the remaining sobs I had. I probably drove you away due to expectations and illusions only I knew of.

But, with that piece of cloth now in my hands, crumpled and wet, I decided to stop whatever we were. And I guess, you also chose to do the same.

What once looked brand new,
Was now soiled, torn and wrinkled

I should be throwing it away, or at least giving it back to you. But I couldn’t bring myself to.

Yes it did contain my tears, your mixed signals and the pretense I allowed myself to believe in.

But it also holds our muffled laughter, our hidden smiles, our ice cream stains, our jokes, our requirement-filled afternoons and our fictitious band sessions.

And it’s proof that you were once here, with me.

So I couldn’t just throw or give it away,

For it contains too much of the things I thought were ours.

Literary: Am I Still? x Always

Am I Still?

Will I still be all right for you?

If who I am
Is not discovered by simply looking
For to know and to find
Is to dig again and again
Till exhaustion takes over

If what I desire
Is not something one can hold
Can’t see, smell, hear nor touch
Something indescribable
Yet so common and familiar

If where I stay
Is not where most people are
Not within the confines of the usual
But probably on the borderline
Of sense and insanity

If when I love
I also hurt those I treasure the most
Without knowing it
For pride and reticence
Unintentionally come first

If how I live
Means keeping a mask on
For behind my smile
Is where my demons are
Where they truly reside

And if why I hide
Is because building walls
Became a habit of mine
And running away when one comes close
Became a natural response

After everything that’s been revealed
Am I still all right for you?

Always

You will still be all right for me

Even if who you are
Cannot be determined by simply looking
Even if I have to seek
Every inch of this land
From what's out in the open
To the depths of our souls

Even if what you desire
Is a mere concept no one can hold
Even if I, myself am not sure
Of what it is, what it feels like
Or what it will bring

Even if where you are
Is far away from the usual
May it be two, three, or a thousand steps back
From where I used to be

Even if when you love
Your actions show the opposite
I will love you
Even if it means being pushed away

Even if how you live
Means hiding your true self
I will look beyond your eyes
Beneath your smile
And accept all there is

Even if you build walls
To keep people like me
From coming close to you
I will wait despite uncertainty
Until I am worthy of you

And even when everything has been revealed
Don’t you worry, my love
You will always be all right for me

Literary: Seven Mysteries of the Human Being

The answers to our questions can’t always be found somewhere.
But that doesn’t stop us from asking still.

Why
Why do we try
Despite the risk of failing
Striving for achievement
And the satisfaction it might bring

Why
Why do we decide for ourselves
And refuse to abide
By the rules and norms
Our society and surroundings provide

Why
Why do we fear
Of things we haven’t even experienced
Even though, we are not certain
Of their existence

Why
Why do we love
And prepare to leave everything behind
Constantly jeopardizing the state
Of our heart and mind

Why
Why do we believe
In things we can’t even hold
In the abstract and conceptual
In things we can’t even start to unfold

Why
Why do we aspire
To reach the highest of our dreams
Despite the improbability it presents
Despite how impossible it seems

Why
Why do we question every thing
And not being content with what we already know
Asking questions that are quite repetitive
And waiting for solutions that might not even show

The answers to our questions can’t always be found somewhere.
But you see, the beauty of life lies in secrets we don’t know…
Yet.

Literary: When Was It?

When was it exactly?
When was it that I knew?

Perhaps it started
When I first noticed
Your flawless face
Unrivaled by any star in the sky
Far more breathtaking
Than any sight I’ve ever seen

Maybe it began
When I would find
My mind wandering
Spending countless minutes
Staring at nothing
But thinking of you

Possibly it started
When we’d sit side by side
Solving equations
And completing theories
With you making sure
I did everything right

Perhaps it began
When I’d approach you
And you’d look at me
Then time would break its own limits
And everything would be in slow motion
Allowing me to relish your presence

But I think it was when
I saw your blemishes
And noticed your imperfections
But somehow, you still seemed flawless
Still seemed much more beautiful
Than anything in the world

It was when
I wouldn’t be distractedly filled
With thoughts of you
But rather, be inspired, motivated
To be a better version
To be a better person

It was when
All the tutoring was useless
Because you didn’t teach me
How to appreciate you
Instead you showed me
How to value myself

And it was when
Time would still disobey its own rules
It would flow unconventionally
And fast forward to the future
Containing nothing
But me and you

Then all the stars aligned
And all things made sense
All the lines rhymed
And all the wrongs seemed right

It was then,
It was then that I knew

Literary: On A Pedestal

“How can someone be so perfect?”
When one lays eyes on you,
This is the question always uttered
But is never actually answered

How can they not wonder?
With skin as fair as snow
And eyes impossibly fathomless
With lips that promise intelligence
And words that can soothe any tired soul
With a prominent nose
That highlights everything
And dimples gracefully appearing
Like an angel’s kiss too deep
With a smile that holds enough mystery
And laughter that beats any symphony

But unlike the majority
Who fawn over your external charms for a moment,
Then move on to the next exhibit
I luckily saw something your label did omit

They never recognized
How you help people without their consent
Then hide when they ask whom to thank
How you tirelessly offer support
To anyone who is about to give up
How you effortlessly create smiles
With hilarious jokes and antics
How you refuse to be ordinary
Doing things the way you want to
And how you give plenty of love away
Without worrying if you’d be repaid

After discovering what glimpses failed to notice
I now have an answer to the question constantly asked
“I realized how you’re not just a piece that's breathtaking to look at
You’re perfect because you’re someone much more beneath all that”

Literary: Kaleidoscope

I was
Dull. Monochromatic. Unappealing.

A single-colored fragment
Wandering aimlessly
Looking for someone or something
But doesn’t know exactly
Every day was just a copy of another
Repetitions of yesterday
And endless patterns
All blending to gray

Then you appeared
Another isolated piece
Of one shade
And everything changed
Every day became an adventure
With you and me as heroes
And the world as our stage
We would dance in red
And cry in blue
We’d laugh in yellow
And love in different hues

Now, fragments of a myriad of colors
Broken and shattered
But fated by the universe
Two destinies meant to concur
With the moon and the stars conspiring
To bring us together

Now we are
Captivating. Complementary. Beautiful.

Literary: Six Degrees

There are billions of people in this world
That I wouldn’t be able to meet
All linked by the same thread
Weaved in the same web
And I was fortunate enough
To interact with many

But because of unexplainable reasons
The one that matters most
Is the nearest
Yet hardest to reach

Six
Six degrees of separation
Few but tough obstacles that hinder
The barriers between him and me

Five
Five moments of hesitation
Waiting for the right time to profess
Yet leaving with feelings still kept hidden

Four
Four months of false hope
And these were entirely my fault
For interpreting all his friendly gestures wrong

Three
Three words of confession
Imprisoned in my own doubt
And shall stay a secret forever

Two
Two eyes of longing
For the smile he has, caused by another
And the happiness radiating from him and her

And one
One heart full of pure affection
For the boy oblivious to the joy he brings
To me who receives no love in return
And yet, refuses to give up and believe

That I was the only one destined to fall
He was the one I have always looked for
And that an “us” will remain a theory
Never anything more

Literary (Submission): Je Ne Regrette Rien

I did
I chose to raise my stakes
I risked everything
In the hopes of getting the highest prize
Through my constant efforts and multiple tries

I did
I kept on losing
To the same person again and again
He seemed to know my game plan
And where each bluff ended and began

I did
I was oblivious to the fact
That actually, he meant something more
More than just a triumph I couldn’t attain
More than just another rejection’s pain

But I still did
I kept playing the game
Maybe somehow, I would finally win
However, my confidence got the best of me
And in the last round, I suffered the biggest casualty

But I still did
I picked up my broken pieces
Scarring my hands along the way
Putting them back together
Hoping that in my next bet, it’d be better

I will
Someday I will forget him
The boy I constantly lost to
My first gamble and first defeat
Because of the many others he also played with, how can I compete?

I am
I’m glad I stayed for the excitement he brought
Even though it was fictitious and fleeting
But I never did and never will
Regret anything

Virtual Reality
We’d always talk every chance we got
I was lazy but you spoke a lot
At first, I was annoyed but you grew on me
Because you completed every sentence I could not

I may sound silly but it’s the truth
You became the highlight of my day
I constantly look forward to chatting with you,
Smiling widely whenever you send me a “hey”

Nothing and no one can ever measure
How much space you took up in my mind
For the few months we spent learning about each other
Our once parallel strings became intertwined

Reality
We’d pass the same halls, the same floors
But you wouldn’t spare me a single glance
Because it was all just silence
All along, I thought it was romance

It hurts but it’s the truth
We never really knew each other
We never really knew the person behind the screen
And we never really conversed without a computer

But still, nothing and no one can ever describe
The type of person you became to me
For the past few months, I loved learning about you
Even though we only interacted virtually

For now, I might as well forget everything we talked about
Including all your words I could not help but fall for
Because sadly, our real connection only says

Literary: Tomorrow x Yesterday

Tomorrow

It all depends on what I do tomorrow
The clock’s hands were tired from turning
Urging me to make a move and for you to notice
How badly I want you to know

It all depends on what I do today
Gathering up all my courage
To finally talk to you
I promise to not allow myself another delay

It all depends on what I do later
My hands are all clammy from the thought
Of you passing the same space as mine
Fear or regret? Which one weighs heavier?

It all depends on what I do in a few second’s time
I see you, a few meters ahead of me
Inch by inch I walk forward
Closer and closer still, I feel like I’m at my prime

Finally…. You walked away
Both our backs are facing each other now
A single word I can’t even utter
Once again, today’s not the day

All those self-encouragements were just for show
I cannot count the number of times I practiced
But I still can’t say a simple “hello”
Maybe I’ll just try again tomorrow

Yesterday

It all depended on what you did yesterday
The clocks’ hands were witnesses
Of how a promise can end so easily
And how everything dissolved so suddenly

It all depended on what you did on that day
When you said you needed some space
I promised I’d wait for the time
When both of our stars would align

It all depended on what you did earlier
Your silhouette I see in every corridor
You keep running on my mind, day by day
And now, you are just a few meters away

It all depended on what you did a few seconds ago
You passed by as if I were nothing
As if you forgot our love once great
Which ended under its own weight

It was not the first time
That our backs were facing each other
With a heart left midair
It’s hard pretending not to care

When you pass by again
Please, do not utter a single “hello”
This heart is tired from loving uncertainties
All it wishes for is to let you go

EPISODE 1
Our story starts on a normal day….
I was with you, my chingu, walking around aimlessly
“I like you” you blurted out in a hurry
Because of my shock, I almost choked
But you just laughed and told me it was just a joke

Dismissing your crazy prank, I smiled and giggled, too
When suddenly a tall and handsome oppa passed, then and there I knew
He was going to be my leading man
And the untamed beating of my heart began
And chingu was left forgotten…..

EPISODE 2
First day of a new school year….
Oppa was a new student here! This must be fate
But sadly, he was older and not my classmate
As expected, girls from everywhere tried to get his attention
And I’m just here, far away, filled with hidden admiration
And chingu was still left forgotten…..

EPISODE 3
Months have passed…
I still don’t have the courage to approach him
But with chingu’s support, my heart filled to the brim with hope
So I sent him a note and revealed my identity
I was prepared to be liked back, but he just ignored me
And chingu was still left forgotten….

EPISODE 4
For weeks…
All that came out of my mouth was regret
Oppa’s uninterested face I could not forget
You replied, “Forget him already, find someone new,”
“Find someone who really deserves you.”
But chingu’s words were forgotten…..

EPISODE 5
Once again….
I tried my best to make him notice my efforts and maybe show a little care
I did everything, from writing poems to cutting my hair
But I grew tired of chasing someone who doesn’t see me
I guess I wasn’t cut out to be his leading lady
All along, chingu was by her side but still forgotten….

EPISODE 6
Then something shocking happened….
Oppa talked to me out of the blue
I didn’t respond because I didn’t know how to
He spent time with me, more each day
But I was hesitant and didn’t want to stay

He was adored by my other friends and even my mom
I guess I adored him, too, but now, my heart is calm
They were rooting for us, wanted us to end up together
But, after all his indifference before, I now knew better
Will chingu be remembered now?

EPISODE 7
I don’t need someone to grab my wrist to stop me from leaving
Or someone to deliver cheesy lines and have looks that are breathtaking
I don’t need someone to swoop in and do a heroic deed
I realized I don’t need a K-drama lead

EPISODE 8
Because all along….
You were always by my side
The one who comforted me whenever I cried
The one who endured the agony of pretending he was fine
You, the chingu who shared this agony mine

You, the one who stayed along the sidelines, watching from afar
The one who kept his feelings locked up in a jar
You might not be the star of the show
But even after over a hundred episodes, my love for you can only grow

…I was meant to choose you.

THE END

Literary: Ephemeral

End of Summer Vacation
A new day, a new beginning
It’s been too long since I last saw you
Four months of silence
Four months in the air
Four months of waiting for you to care
Too shy to converse
Too shy to talk first
Too scared to look for a clue
That somehow, you liked me too
So I yearned for classes to return
As to see you again, was my only concern

Halloween
I promised myself I had to be the first
To approach and not wait for a cue
I turned looks to words
And words to sentences
I made an effort to speak to you
With more than just phrases

Time flew and moments together were now a routine
Now I’m here deciding what to be for Halloween

Oh whatever, I’ll just be something cliché
The foolhardy hero of a well-known play
I shall depict that of a fair lady
The naive heroine of a classic tragedy

And as if it were a plot of destiny
Star-crossed lovers, we portrayed unknowingly

Christmas
Yuletide season is now coming up
Time for joy and time for cheer

I invited you on one memorable Christmas Eve
This is my chance to wear my heart on my sleeve
You asked me out, to see the lantern’s glow
I accepted, without knowing what’s to follow

And so we agreed to meet together
Just the two of us under the celestial sky

I asked with all my might
For you to be my partner for one special night
Flustered, I lost all my finesse
Still shy, I boldly answered yes
My happiness, I tried to contain
But the beating of my heart, I cannot restrain

New Year
A new year, a new chapter
I thought everything would be happy ever after

I tried reaching out, but you left my message unseen
Wondering where I went wrong, staring at the screen
I’m sorry, I did mean to answer
It just took too long, so I thought it didn’t matter

Hours turned to days turned to weeks
The memories we made, now turned bleak

Valentine’s
This is the night we’ve been waiting for
To restore the connection we lost

I want to ask for a dance so badly
But you’re there, enjoying someone else’s company

Cause you’d rather stand there, staring elsewhere,
So I tried to laugh and show that I didn’t care

I’ve been waiting
For something to happen

But the rose for you gradually withered
Along with the trickle of time
My hope faded, little by little
My patience vanished while waiting for your sign

And before I knew it, the last dance ended
My pride won, we left and parted

April Fool’s Day
We have avoided each other ever since
Back to secret gazes, wordless but longing

I was willing to wait for all of eternity
Up until now, I never questioned your sincerity
I was just a fool who trusted in you
Hanging onto every word, as if they were true

I know I was never worthy of you
But I still tried and did my best

For a moment, I thought I was enough
But you found someone else to believe your bluff
You seem like you’re unaffected
It was just a game for you, I suspected

Maybe this was your plan from the start
Congratulations, you played with my heart.

Literary: Hanging Man

Listening to you
Now while talking about her
While you’re looking so blue
Makes me wish you would look for another

Word by word, I tried to guess
How best I can tell you
That for me, you’re different from the rest
But secrets are better than the truth

Then you said the most hurtful words you will ever say to me
With letters that implied your feelings:

I see her in every corner and even when I close my eyes

Little by little do I realize that she is the one
Only one for me in this world of endless possibilities
Vowing to her my love and she, promising back, felt like I’ve won
Everything that I am she loved piece by piece

Hallucinations were all that those memories were
Easy come and easy go, her attention faded
Regretting, I should’ve fallen for someone better

With a pat and sigh
I let you go
With a smile and a wave goodbye
My hopes now hit an all time low

For I wish that you instead said to me,

You were actually the person who completes me
Only now did I realize you were the one
Us is a possibility I, now, can see

But no, you chose to stay for another
To show everyone that for her, you’d be a fighter
For every stupid decision she makes puts you in danger
Like a rope on your neck growing tighter and tighter

Literary: Second Star to the Right

Stuck and bored, day and night
Never left my zone, not even for a mile
To work till it's morning and bright
A life I had known for quite a while

Sighing and longing are no use to me
But I love looking out my window sill
To the stars spread out as far as my eye can see
A view so beautiful and so surreal

I want to be among them
I want to be up there
I want to be a shining gem
To soar without care

As soon as I feel like turning around
A boy, suddenly appeared, no older than me
With feet, not gravity-bound
And laughter so careless and free

He told me,

“You know, you’ve been wishing on the wrong star
See that one, the second to the right?
There, it doesn’t seem too far
To Neverland, it will guide you with its light

“Faith becomes the wings you need
To fly up there with me
And trust will surely do the deed
To be what you want to be

“Do you trust me?”

“How could I? I don’t know you.”

“Take my hand, let, whatever our fate is, be.”

With a naïve heart, I followed him and flew

To an unknown world, he took my hand
For a while, I didn’t want any other
But an adventure, so exciting and grand
Is bound to end one way or another
To end the unforgettable journey we had,
He faced me and smiled, as if it wasn’t sad

“It’s time to let go
But not to say goodbye
For saying goodbye is forgetting, don’t you know?”

And with that he left, back up to the sky

I waited and waited and waited
For the promise that he vowed
To never forget me as if we were fated
But the cry of my heart is too loud

I want to be numb
Because hoping for you is futile
Being young forever is too burdensome
So to wait this long is too brutal

But the memories of you
Were the only proof you were real
And my broken heart is evidence too
To the emotions I feel

But I’m still going to continue
To jump off the plank
Because I’m hoping you are still true
And to safety, you’d fly me back
