Literary (Submission): Lamenting Memoirs

I could smell her fragrance from where I’m sitting--the scent of apples and roses. Just being this close to her... these are the moments when I wish time would stand still for me and her.

She looked around and her gaze met mine. Those dazzling hazel eyes of hers were what captured my heart. She gave a faint smile then faced the board once more.

My name is Aeon de la Rue, a 4th year student from the University of the Philippines and she’s Felicity Lament, my first love.

It’s been a year since I’ve fallen for her. I haven’t talked to her since summer; ever since I thought I’ve lost my feelings for her.

She had been the reason I woke up every morning with a smile on my face, the reason I happily went to school back in those days.

But now, I act like I barely know her, I haven’t spoken to her, nor has she spoken to me. I miss the days I sat beside her, the time I spent with her, the feelings I had for her, but most of all… I miss her.

It was the first day after Christmas Break, and she was seated beside me. It had been an eventful Christmas and there was an awkward silence between us.

I was the first to break the silence, I smiled at her and greeted her a good morning. She replied with a smile. I missed seeing her smile. It had been a whole month since I last saw her. A single smile from her brightened my day, but I remembered my parting words to her last Christmas… “Remember the girl I’ve been talking about? Well, it’s you…”

Things are different between us now. Now, she knows how I feel about her, but she acts like she doesn’t. Should I be happy because we’re friends, or should I cry because that’s all we’ll ever be?

Days passed, stars continued to shine, why do I have tears in my eyes even though she was never mine? [Submitted by Aeon]

Literary (Submission): 1 Thing, 2 Say, 3 Words, 4 You (Part 2)

That night as I was sleeping, I dreamt of her. I was walking along the corridors of UPIS when I saw her from behind; she seemed to be alone so I decided to talk to her. As I was saying her name, I remembered what happened that afternoon. I felt a great pressure on my chest, I couldn't move. As she was turning around to look at me, I panicked. I woke up screaming, I was breathing heavily. Even in my dreams, I was afraid to find out her reaction. What if she avoided me? What if she tells me upfront that she dislikes me? I was too tired to think. I felt reality slowly drifting away; I had fallen asleep once more.

I was walking along the corridors of UPIS. I saw her on the second floor and happened to pass by her. As I was passing by, she said my name. I didn't stop to turn around; I continued walking when she suddenly said, "Remember what you said last time?"

My whole body went numb, my legs stopped moving. She continued what she was saying. "Can we talk?" she asked. I turned around to face her. I approached her then gestured for her to follow me.

We walked the corridors of the second floor. She then said to me, "I'm sorry, but I can't reciprocate your feelings."

I instinctively replied "You don't have to. I just wanted you to know how I feel, just in case something happened to me during Christmas Break." She smiled at me and said something, but I couldn't hear it. The walls started fading, the ceiling began to disappear. Everything went black and she vanished along with everything else.

I woke up to the sound of my sister using the laptop.

Christmas Break passed by slowly. I had nothing to entertain me. I only had the laptop and a couple of friends to talk to. Christmas and New Year passed, nothing significant happened.

January had come and classes have resumed. I arrived in school before time. I was thinking, how should I react if I see her? Should I talk to her? Should I pretend that nothing happened? Should I ignore her? As I was thinking, she entered the classroom. My blood froze, my hands were shaking, and my heart was throbbing. Maybe I could just avoid her for now...

But there's one problem: my seat is right next to hers... ● by Aeon

Literary (Submission): 1 Thing 2 Say 3 Words 4 You

It all started in October of the year 2011, when I held her hand and gazed into her hazel-coloured eyes. That was when I learned I had fallen in love with her.

We were holding each other's hands and looking into each other's eyes. I felt something, a spark, my heart skipping a beat? Until now, I am still clueless as to what it was. All I know is I've fallen for her.

Nothing lasts forever; my moment of ecstasy had ended. Our presentation was finished and we're back to our normal lives as high school students. I was smiling outside but crying inside, happy for being able to hold her hands, look into her eyes, pretend that we're a couple in front of other people... but the truth is, we're not. It was only a mere presentation and that's all it will ever be.
