Literary (Submission): My Life, My Freedom

EDITED 1

My Life, My Freedom

I am Juan Dela Cruz. I wanted to go to school and study hard, play computer games and go partying, [Have some fun naman, if no, di na kita friend. >:(] graduate with honors [I am sorry, but it is your fault you failed to comply with my outrageous and irrelevant demands and expectations.], go to college and get a diploma [Due to the state of things, you will have to settle for a lower quality university, and you will have to go through the eye of a needle to get accepted.] , get a job as a doctor. [My children will be successful doctors like me.] [We do need more doctors], start a family [Lol, I think mas cool if you put this before the graduate part, dejk lang.] [Don’t you dare, I hear a single whisper about something like this, there will be consequences!] [We concur, we will shun you if you do so.].

High School
In my youth, I regularly irregularly [Those “unexcused absences” say otherwise.] attended classes in a fairly decent high school [Mej debatable pero sige.]. I barely studied diligently and eventually miraculously [The class was not that difficult, you were just lazy.] graduated [No awards? How can I call you my child when I was class valedictorian, and you did not even graduate with honors!].

College
I applied and took BS Biology because it was the best course to take with my career goal in mind my parents made me do so. I relented because it would give me an opportunity to get away from them. I wanted to get my life together and academically perform better now that I was in college, so I distanced myself from bad influences isolated myself from friends [Dude. it was just one party, come on, nothing bad happened. Tell you what, I'll introduce you to some “friends” I know you’d like]. College life was not as easy as I hoped it would be, the stress got to me I got lazy and I tried to find comfort in friends bad company. We studied together and were there for each other We hit bar after bar, and did several morally and legally questionable things. Good thing I was careful, my friends were not so lucky, some of them went to jail and/or became early parents. Due to my activities, I could no longer rely on my parent’s allowance, I was too ashamed to admit to them what I have been doing and ask for an increase. I told them I would get a part-time job to fuel my unhealthy lifestyle “help my finances”. That was the first time they said that they were proud of me.

Downfall
Unfortunately, this meant I had less time to study. I knew that if I did not get help I would fail. So I started meditating and exercising started abusing Adderall and Modafinil [Told you it would help you dude.]. to help me study.

Enduring Nightmare
Eventually, this cycle of hell ended, and [Hey now, college is important for you! You are better off this way than not.] I graduated. Little did I know, I would shortly go through another similar experience in earning my medical degree.

Placebo
After all my hardships, I finally became a doctor, albeit in residency. I thought mMy parents would be happy when I told them. The first question out of their mouths was, “After your residency, what country do you plan on working in? Don’t tell me you plan on staying here, you should make more money than I did, go to the States!”. I severed contact soon after.

Beginning of the End
I told myself, things will finally be better when I got my practice. I barely noticed it when it came. [Finally, now you can be an actual productive member of society! Good job.] Maybe I would now be happy when I met everyone’s expectations made a lot of money, when I got a big house, a fast car, or when I cared for others.

Peers: We had a lot of fun back then didn’t we? We had that 💯% lit 🔥 af life 👌😂. You sure you don’t want to hit the ol-regulars? It’s stressful being a doctor, you know.

Teachers: You were a mediocre student, at least now that you are a doctor, you are not completely useless. It’s nice to know we did not waste our time on you.

Parents: We agree with the teacher’s comments in that you were a mediocre student. it would’ve been preferable if you didn’t hang out with your so called “friends”. You should have listened to us! The money you make here is but a fraction of what you could have had in the States!

Society: Hey now, sure you had your downs, but frankly, I don’t care! Now, when can I expect you to be treating people and stimulating the economy?

Literary (Submission): Truth, if You Dare

This world of infinite information,
Limitless methods of dissemination,
From lead to ink to cables,
Why do we still believe in fables?

Despite this all, we cannot
Determine what is true or not.
Readily giving what you seek,
Yet they deceivingly speak.

Beware the candyman,
His truths as real as the boogeyman.
Though sweet be his tongue,
Only lies and deception are sung.

Sift through the silt and sand,
Find the gems of truth you demand.
The day you let falsehood reign,
The truth may not return again.

Literary (Submission): Empty Words

Freedom of the masses restricted
Media and press censored
Many unlawfully convicted
Plundered national treasures

 Military and police brutality
Protection for the ruling class
No suppression of criminality
Innocents imprisoned en masse

 Opposition silenced in one strike
Wants of the masses ignored
Policies like in the Third Reich
Hailing the Supreme Overlord

Literary (Submission): Banner

Eight rays of the sun,
Eight provinces who did what had to be done,
To topple those who made us cower,
To fight the colonial power.

Sparks of civil dissent
Embers of civil discontent
Flames of retribution
Blaze of revolution

Revolution immortalized,
In blue, red, and white fossilized,
Yellow sun and stars,
Commemorate the war.

Lest we forget why we fought,
And sacrifice would have been for naught,
Look to the flag and recall,
The values it should install.

Literary (Submission): Lupa and Princess

Lupa is starving
Meat is her craving
She stalks prey on the roads and fields
Large fangs and claws she wields

Is Lupa bound to the ways of a primal beast?

Princess is starving
Dried pellets are her craving
She awaits her master’s return
Obedience to her master is her only concern

Is Princess a slave to her master’s feast?

Lupa leads her pack
Coordinating their attack
Using generations of evolutionary instinct
Her primal will survives those now extinct

Is Lupa strong for clinging to the past?

Princess dons a pink skirt and dances
On a long log she balances
Learning new tricks everyday
Training with master the whole day

Is Princess smart for having knowledge so vast?

Lupa and Princess both have needs
That they achieve through their own deeds
In their own way, they are strong
To them, what they do is not wrong

Is Lupa bound to the ways of a primal beast?
Is Princess a slave to her master’s feast?
These bonds do not place them among the least

Is Lupa strong for clinging to the past?
Is Princess smart for having knowledge so vast?
Looking back and forward does not place them among the last

Literary (Submission): This World

World of immense beauty
Home of humanity
Earth, I weep for thee
Never did I think to see

Terror attacks here and there
Homicidal killers without a care
Endless are the battles fought
Wartime talks have been for naught

Over culture, people fight each other
Race divides one another
Legislations belittling minorities
Demolishing barriers not a priority

Insufficient global resources
Subjective judicial processes
Freedom of speech denied
Unscrupulous politicians who lied

Crushed was our peaceful nature
Killed was the future
Extreme will be the price
Destroyed was the paradise

Literary (Submission): Man's Flight

Terra's vast, wide blue skies,
The unending heights we all recognize.
Long has man desired to soar these heights,
Wishing that from the sky he’d see the sights.

Limited by biology,
Man looked to technology.
He tried and failed, at first,
But failure only increased his thirst.

Man eventually had success,
Balloons carried him above the trees,
Jets allowed him to fly from place to place,
He even now looks to conquer the vastness of space.

However, if man took to the skies for curiosity,
Why did man use his jets to rain fire on fellow man with such ferocity?
Why did man use his supremacy of the skies to subjugate other nations?
Man's peaceful creations twisted and used for vile applications
