Various bands from Grades 7 to 10 joined “ALUNIG: Ang Tunog ng Pagbabago”, UPIS Fair 2019’s Battle of the Bands, last February 15 at the University of the Philippines (UPIS) 7-12 grounds.

UPIS Batch 2021 dominated the event this year, making the extravagant effort of their batch mates that cheered worth-it.

Batch 2021’s Prizmo, composed of Keanne Nuevas, Magan Basilio, Diego Sunga, Polo Uera, Pam Marquez, and Justin Polendey, once again won First Place in this year’s Battle of the Bands. Their winning performance included Macklemore’s Can’t Hold Us, Kamikazee’s Narda, and their own original song, Tiwala.

Another two bands that came from Batch 2021, The Wednesdays and Titos, came in second and third place, respectively. The Wednesdays performed Jet Lag by Simple Plan, She Looks So Perfect by 5 Seconds of Summer, and All I Know, their original composition. Ulan by Cueshe, Antukin by Rico Blanco, and an original song entitled Ikaw were performed by Titos.

Bandarito (Grade 7), Sesame Seeds (Grade 8), A CHORD, Band-Aid, Blue Moon (Grade 9), and On the Horizon (Grade 10), also participated in the competition.

After the competition, the bands 4 Jacks (Grade 11), All In (Grade 12), and Tripolar from Batch 2018 also performed to mark the closing of the event. //by Ria Amano and Angel Dizon

Idinaos ang Marahuyo o 3-6 Variety show sa Bulwagan noong ika-14 ng Pebrero, 2019, pangatlong araw ng UPIS days.

Nagmula sa Kinder hanggang Grado 6 ang mga kalahok dito. May dalawang kategorya ang patimpalak: solo at group. Parehong nagkaroon ng pitong pagtatanghal sa bawat kategorya. Pinakita ng bawat kalahok ang kanilang talento sa buong UPIS 3-6. Sa solo category, maraming mag-aaral ang kumanta ng mga sikat na awit gaya ng “A Million Dreams.” May ilang mag-aaral din ang solong sumayaw. Sa group category, may mga grupo ng mag-aaral na kumanta nang acapella, umawit ng may accompaniment gaya ng ukulele, at mayroon ding mga nagsayaw habang kumakanta.

Sa pagtatapos ng kompetisyon, pinarangalan si Maria Arabella S. Dizer ng 4-Malunggay para sa solo category. Siya ay tumugtog ng piano habang kinakanta ang Fight song. Para naman sa group category, nagkampeon ang grupong Violet and Pink na kinabibilangan nina Marteena Leona B. Darantinao, Lian Kaith V. Esguerra, Javick NC S. Corpuz, and Arianni Beatrice I. Vargas mula sa Grado 2. Sinayaw nila ang Ddu Ddu ng Blackpink, Baam ng Momoland, at Switch it up ni Lavaado. //ni Tracy Mondragon

Ginanap noong ika-14 ng Pebrero ang Iskosina 2019 sa Foods Lab. room ng Gusali 7-12 bilang bahagi ng mga programa sa UPIS Days.

Nahati ang patimpalak sa tatlong kategorya, ang patimpalak para sa Kindergarten-Grado 2, Grado 3-6 at Grado 7-10.

Ang panuto para sa Kindergarten-Grado 2 ay maghanda ng sandwich. Ang Grado 3-6 naman ay pinaghanda ng pagkaing Pilipino. Para sa Grado 7-10, kailangang magluto ng isang putahe na gumagamit ng kalabasa bilang pangunahing sangkap. Binigyan sila ng isang oras at tatlumpung minuto para matapos ang pagluluto.

Para sa Kindergarten-Grado 2, ang mga kalahok ay nahati sa apat na grupo: Kahel, Lila, Bahaghari, at Luntian. Ang bawat grupo ay binubuo ng isang kinatawan bawat grado kasama ang isang magulang. Ang mga grupo naman ng Grado 3-6 ay nahati sa tatlo: Kahel, Lila, at Luntian na binubuo ng isang kinatawan bawat baitang. Samantala, ang bawat grupo sa Grado 7 -10 naman ay binubuo ng tatlong miyembro na kinatawan ng bawat seksyon ng kanilang baitang.

Ang nanalo para sa Kindergarten-Grado 2 ay ang grupong Bahaghari na binubuo nina Pia Tagayuna, Gihannah Maliedem, Mishi Guiang at ang magulang na si G. Clint Guiang. Ang nanalong pagkain naman para sa Grado 3-6 ay nagmula sa grupong Lila na binubuo nina Cassiopeia Andaya, Jasmine Tolentino, Maria Antonia Tongol, at Pia Meliton. Ang kanilang inihanda ay Malunggay and Kang Kong Balls. Nagtagumpay naman ang Grado 7 sa kanilang inihandang putahe na may sangkap na caramelized calabasa na kanilang tinawag na “Calabazap.” Binubuo ang grupo nina Pauline Vargas, Anna Dalet, at Jen Onal.

Memories, dreams, and emotions were shared over the annual MCLive event with the theme “Match” hosted by the University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS) Media Center (MC) on February 14, 2019, at the 3-6 Bulwagan.

The event aims to promote the Media Center’s online publication site Ang Aninag Online while showcasing the various talents of the students as they take the center stage, performing musical numbers, spoken poetry, and dance numbers.

With the program hosted by MC2020, the set design of 2021, and the concessionaires managed by MC2019, this year’s MCLive is the first that was done with a collaboration of three batches.

The event opened with the first set of performers, namely All-In, followed by the musical talents of Dindin Tinco, Josh Santos and Max Salvador, succeeded by the band Alitaptap. The first set of performers finished with a musical number from Aldrich Agad, Keio Guzman, and Yanna Reblando.

Before the second set of performers, a tribute to the graduating MC 2019 was done through an audio-visual presentation of MC2019’s various moments, a spoken word performance by Onise Manas, and a short message from Owen Bernos, the current Editor-in-Chief of MC2020.

The second set of performers started with a dance number from Yumi Dela Torre, followed by a musical number from Kennard Bondal and Ulap Coquilla. After, Angie Albao and Isa Isip also showed their musical talents, followed by a solo performance from Jean Sabate.

The program drew to a close with the bands Yang n co. and Smilky taking center stage.

Apart from the performances, there were also a variety of concessionaires from different grade levels, providing food, drinks, and services to those who attended the event. //by Keio Guzman

The use of plastic is still necessary but its usage needs to be responsibly regulated and properly managed in order to preserve and protect the environment from wanton destruction, said Gabriel V. Uchi from 3-Lawa.

He is one of the winning representatives of the Mr. and Mrs. Advocacy Pageant held at the 3-6 Bulwagan last February 14, 2019, Thursday.

The winning pairs of each grade level are as follows:

Grade 3 Lawa:

Each section from Grades 3-6 were required to present two representatives who were given two weeks to prepare a costume based on their assigned category.

The categories were, Marine Life for Grades 3 to 4 and Life on Land for Grades 5 to 6.

Each pair of representatives were given time to present their advocacy and their costumes. After which, they would then randomly select a question based on their category and answer it.

The judges of the pageant are Mr. Brenson Y. Andres, Mr. Emmanuel B. Verso Jr. and Ms. Anna Christina G. Nadora. Participants were judged based on the following criteria: showmanship and confidence with thirty-five points, question and answer portion with another thirty-five points, costume and props with twenty points, and finally their introduction at ten points. //by Cyñl Tecson and Gabe Ulanday

Selected students from Grades 7 to 10 participated in the first Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Quiz Bee at the UPIS Auditorium last February 15.

The students were divided into nine teams with three to four students each. For four rounds, i.e. easy, average, difficult, and bonus, they answered questions about the SDGs and related concepts in Science and Social Studies.

Team 2 was declared champion with 170 points. Sean Cuevas (7-Venus), Isabel Biason (8-Ladybug), Emman Caasi (9-Gold), and Marius Barcenas (10-Lauan). Team 9, which comprised Freenzy Molina (7-Neptune), Adrian Mayo (8-Honeybee), Diana Romero (9-Silver), and Celina Morales (10-Yakal), won first runner-up with 160 points. Lastly, Mikaela Baylosis (7-Neptune), Eda White (9-Silver), and Jana Garcia (10-Yakal) of Team 3 took second runner-up with 125 points.

Prof. Sharon Aguila, KA Adviser, expressed the importance of the event to the students. According to her, "Sa pamamagitan ng pagsali nila sa patimpalak, makikita natin kung ano ang alam ng ating mga mag-aaral sa mga SDGs.... gusto natin makita kung gaano [sila] kahanda sa pagtugon ng mga suliraning pambansa at pandaigdig." (Through joining the competition, we can see the knowledge of our students about the SDGs... we want to see how [they] are ready to face national and international issues.)

The SDG Quiz Bee was a part of the celebration of UPIS Days with the theme SANDIGAN: Magkakasama. Magkaagapay. Magtatagumpay. It was coordinated by the KA 7–12, Science Society, and Kilusan ng Araling Panlipunan. Lumahok ang mga mag-aaral ng UPIS sa Alternative Classroom Learning Experience (ACLE) noong Pebrero 14, pangalawang araw ng UPIS Days, mula ika-8 hangang ika-10 ng umaga. Isinagawa ang iba’t ibang sesyon sa mga silid sa Gusali 3-6 at Gusali 7-12.

Nilalayon ng ACLE na mabigyan ng ibang karanasan ang mga mag-aaral sa loob ng silid-aralan. Malayang pumili ang mga mag-aaral ng sesyon na kanilang dinaluhan ayon sa kanilang hilig, talento o interes.

Nang tanungin si Wilnor Papa, speaker ng Amnesty International, kung paano nakatutulong ang ACLE sa mga kalahok at tagapagsalita, sinabi niya, “It (ACLE) gives you opportunities to learn other things that you don’t normally learn in school. (Ang ACLE ay nagbibigay ng oportunidad para matunan mo ang ibang kaalaman na hindi mo kadalasan napag-aaralan sa loob ng paaralan.)”

Ayon naman kay Patricia Chua, grado 7, “ACLE is a chance for students to explore new hobbies and get to know other people. It opened my mind to new ideas so I think this year’s ACLE is a huge success. (Ang ACLE ay pagkakataon para sa mga mag-aaral na makatuklas ng mga bagong libangan at makakilala ng ibang tao. Binuksan nito ang aking isipan sa mga bagong ideya kaya sa tingin ko, ang ACLE ngayong taon ay malaking tagumpay.)”
