Literary: Balik

Naaalala mo pa ba?
Apat na taong nang nakalilipas?
Noong una tayong nagkakilala
At ang pagtingin mo'y 'di pa kumukupas?
Natatandaan mo pa ba?
Ang mga pangakong iyong binitiwan?
Na hahamakin natin ang buong mundo magkakasama?
Pangako mo, ngunit ikaw rin ang sumira
Nakalimutan mo na yata
Ang mga panahong tayo'y masaya
Noong kahit tayo'y laging magkakasama

Literary: Only Me x Only You

I wish you didn’t know so many girls. I wish I met you before anyone else did. That mine was the first hand you ever held. And yours was the first to ever hold mine.

I was afraid you’d soon fall back in love with someone in your past. The past I barely know anything about. The past that doesn’t contain even a fragment of my being. Maybe someone from there is a lot better than I am. Maybe I am just a mistake you secretly want to erase.

The thought haunts me more than it should, keeping me restless at night. Creating scenarios I am desperately hoping not to come alive. Maybe I just don’t want to lose you.

It was hard competing with ghost lovers from the past. But you told me I need not to. Because I am your present and your future. You chose me today and will continue to choose me everyday until all the stars fall down.

And all the hands you held.
And all the hearts you took.
They mean nothing to me now.

For your heart beats for me and only me.

-----

I may have known many girls whose hands held mine before I ever held yours. And though I may have been glad when I held them, I now realize how much I have been missing out on.

I’ve fallen in love so many times in the past. You’ve probably never heard of the stories of those I loved before you. But what would it matter if none of them could ever compare to you?

And during those times I find myself thinking about what could have been, who I could’ve ended up with, I only need to look beside me and remind myself of what a wonderful person I have in my life.

You need not worry. I crush “what if?” questions that cross my mind. I know you have doubts. But I’m telling you not to. For I may not have loved you yesterday, but I love you today, and I will love you for all of my tomorrows.

And all the hands I once held.
And all the hearts I may have broken.
They should not matter at all to you.

For my heart beats for you and only you.

Ang lapit na ng prom,
Gosh, kay bilis ng panahon,
Last na naming prom,
Pero tinatamad ako.

Mga lalaking naka-suit,
Mga babaeng naka-dress,
Kailangan ko ba talaga silang makita?
Ano ba’yan, nakaka-stress!

Wala naman kasing nagyaya sakin.
And so sayang naman aking money?
Wala din naman akong gagawin doon.
Mas gusto ko pang maiwan sa bahay at matulog.

Pero pupunta pa rin.
Ano ngayon kung wala akong date?
Hindi ako nahihiya.
Paki ba nila, I’m so great!

Hindi ako bitter,
Wala lang akong paki,
Kaya sa mga may balak magprompose sa’kin,
Kuya, chupi!

Literary: It's February Again

It's February again
I guess it's been a year
Since we danced liked no one was watching
When you made me feel like everything was real

It's February again
Boy, does time run slow
It's almost summer now
But why do I still feel the snow?

It's February again
And we haven't been talking
I don't understand why
Do you feel my heart beating?

It's February again
I can see that you're happy
She says you're the air to her lungs
While I’m having a hard time breathing

It's February again
And I confess I loved you so
But it's her you're dancing with now
While I have yet to learn how to let go

Literary: Writing Letters

With the changing times and passing generations
People always ask “Where is the chivalry?”
“Where is the love?”
To them I have one thing to say
Write letters.

When I was six, I wrote my first letter
It was signed ‘from your secret admirer’
Later on I was glad secret admirer remained secret
For he threw it out and laughed when I experienced my first heartbreak

When I was twelve, I wrote to my parents
“I know I haven’t told you this enough, but I love you and I am grateful to you.”
I guess I didn’t include “I’m sorry,” because they’ve already heard it many times before
And I didn’t have the courage to read aloud those two words in public anyway

When I was fourteen, I wrote to all the boys I loved before
Six in total (almost seven, almost)
From the one in white to the one in maroon,
From the one I “loved” when I was five to the one I almost did when I was thirteen

I wrote lots of times when I was fifteen
The first to a boy I would never see again
The second to the boys who would never know my name
And I wrote three apology letters for two wrong things I did
for when I was fifteen, I learned how to break the rules
and soon I realized that rules were there for a reason
and you weren’t supposed to break them

I’m almost sixteen and I realized now
Often we write letters when we want to receive love
We want to receive love, forgiveness, praise, acceptance, trust
But maybe the only person who needs to love, forgive, accept, trust us is ourselves

The chivalry is not lost
The love is not forgotten
My dear it is in us
If we just learned to read between the lines
