K-2 launches Linis Idol campaign
If you were to be sent back to K-2, woud you qualify as K-2's Linis Idol?Last June 6, an orientation about waste management was conducted for K-2 students. According to Ms. Angela Ray Abarquez, a Grade 1 teacher, this is to make the kids help maintain the cleanliness of the school.
They were taught the proper way of throwing their trash. She also said that trash bins are now located outside of classrooms with labels "plastic," "paper," and "carton" for segregation purposes.
Alongside this, a search for the Linis Idol and cleanest homeroom will be launched. This is to encourage students help in cleaning their rooms. Rewards will be given to the winners of the said competition. / by Wren Breva
K-2 launches new programs
The Waste Management Program and the Disciplinary Program proposed by the K-2 faculty members are now being implemented at the K-2 building.The Waste Management Program’s goal is to help the environment by reducing trash. As part of the program, the faculty members decided to set certain bins for each kind of trash for easy assortment. This includes cans for white and colored paper, carton, plastic, and food waste.
Another purpose of the said program is to help and appreciate the custodians. The biodegradable wastes would be sold to trash collectors and the money accumulated will be given to the school workers.
On the other hand, the Disciplinary Program aims to teach students proper conduct, even at their very young age. The K-2 teachers want to show that UPIS students are not only smart but also disciplined and responsible.
For example, footstep marks painted on the floor guide students to keep right, and posters on the walls remind students to behave properly.
The UPIS K-2 faculty will be watching and guiding the students and they will be hoping these programs will not only apply in school, but also in every aspect of life. / by Melanie Bravo and Knika Cornejo
Stars and Juniors hold annual investiture
The UPIS Star Scouts and Junior Girl Scouts held their annual investiture ceremonies last Sept. 24 at the Multi-Purpose Hall.The Stars from Grades 1-3 had a joint investiture led by troop leaders Ms. Angela Macaraeg and Ms. Sharon Aguila. Later in the afternoon, the Juniors led by Ms. Glaiza Cruz invested 11 new scouts and rededicated more than 50 former junior girl scouts.
Both programs were opened by Dr. Ronaldo San Jose, UPIS principal. In her message, the guest speaker, Mrs. Estela Gonzales from the GSP Council, commended the UPIS scouts for their dedication and encouraged them to be continue being active in scouting activities.
All in all, six new parent and troop leaders were invested in both Star and Junior Scouts namely Bernadette Angeles, Christie Manantab, Suzanne Licuanan, Mary Justine Amonoy, Helanay Ariola and Patricia Santos. ● by Rya Ducusin and Joanna Pagulayan
UPIS Pep welcomes new coach

The squad warmly welcomed their new coach who aims to teach and improve basic cheering skills and polish gymnastic techniques. She also plans to involve the Pep Squad in more interschool activities.
“Siyempre magaling siya kasi team captain siya ng UP Pep Squad dati. Okay siya magturo. Inamin niya rin na more on stunts and gymnastics ang kaya niyang ituro kaysa dance talaga,” pep squad member Christel Manalo said of their new coach.
“Medyo strict pero all in all, okay naman po,” adds head drummer Gaea Pelaez.

The renovation sponsored by Ayala Land Corporation as part
of the UPIS-UP Town Center contract includes construction of two additional comfort rooms at the 2nd
floor of the building, insulation of the top floor, sunscreen around the building, and repairs to the old broken ceilings. Exhaust fans will also be installed.
As of this writing, the side of the K-2 building, facing the UP College of Home Economics, has already been finished. The K-2 playground is currently closed while construction is being finished.
