Literary: Just the Beginning

It started when I was 9
My first strum on the guitar
A simple chord that sounded so fine
I already knew that this journey was mine

To the sound of the guitar that blends
With the vocals of my friends
The melody mends
Every problem seems to end

But every time I sing
I would sound like a broken thing
It got so frustrating
Thinking I'm not for singing

Things got better over time
When I wrote songs that would rhyme
Learning to sing on time
And to actually sound fine

And then I learned how to play the drums
Another instrument, not just hums
I shook my thumbs
Until they get numb

I finally got into a band for playing
And also dabbled into song writing
Performing live was so fulfilling
I got addicted to the feeling

I already knew from the start
The legacy I will create from this art
And although I am not yet winning
This is just the beginning

Literary: Ako Ba Talaga'y Para Sa'yo?

Noong una kitang makita…

Nilapitan mo ako sa ‘di malamang dahilan.
Matapos ang mga kwentuhan,
Mas nagkakilala tayo at naging magkaibigan.
Akala ko magiging tayo na,
Akala ko doon na papunta.
Ngunit sa isang iglap,
Bigla na lang tayong nag-iwasan.

Nagustuhan agad kita,
Ang ganda mo kasi,
Laging may ngiti sa iyong mga labi
Baka pwedeng maging tayo kung sakali
At ayun, noong magsimula akong umasa
Nalaman kong may nauna na pala

Makalipas ang ilang taon…

Tayo’y muling nagtagpo.
Masaya akong makita kang muli,
Kahit sa panahong iyon ako’y gulong-gulo.
Lagi kong tinatanong sa sarili,
“Ikaw na ba? Para ba tayo sa isa’t isa?”
Ngunit tila hindi mo ako gusto,
Kaya’t napilitan akong humanap ng iba.

Matagal din tayong ‘di nagkita
Natuwa ako nang malaman
Na break na pala kayo
Napuno ako ng pag-asa
Pero torpe nga pala ako
At ‘yun naubusan na ng oras
Mayroon ka na namang bago

Ngayon…

Sa panahong nagdaan,
Nakakatawang tingnan na ngayon
Ay nauwi pa rin akong mag-isa.
Takot akong maiwang mag-isa,
Kaya kahit ako’y pagod na,
Sinabi ko na lang sa sarili,
“Isang subok pa.”

Ngayon, muli ka na namang nag-iisa
Ang pag-asa ay muling nabuo
Ayoko na sanang palampasin
Ngunit parang malabo
Bumabalik na naman ang pagkatorpe ko
Ako ba talaga ay para sa’yo

Literary: A Change in Weather

In the coldness of December
Are scenes that I would always remember
The look in your eyes that deceived me
That night you looked so pretty

The way your pale skin reflected the light
It was the best thing that ever crossed my sight
And the sound of your laughter
How it made me shiver

Your innocent mind could not tell
That on that night, I fell
You came into my life
And I hoped you meant to stay forever

In the warmth of summer
Are scenes my brain cannot render
The look in your eyes that fooled me
That which dragged me into misery

The way your pale skin reflected the sun
I have always thought you were the one
And the sound of your laughter
Deafens, and kills me after

My innocent mind still cannot tell
That up until this day, you never fell
You came into his life
And flew away from me like a feather

Literary: Tell Me

My mom once told me
“Love can make you cry.”
But I still fell in love
Without knowing why

It’s alright to cry
Everyone does
But my dad would tell me
“You look better when your eyes are dry.”

I worked hard
Nobody said it would be easy
But my friends told me
“That girl is making you crazy.”

I was so close to quitting
Almost bursting at the seams
But my teacher once told me
“Never stop chasing your dreams.”

And so I gave it all to her
I did everything I can do
Yet she never told me
“I love you, too.”

Literary: If Only You Knew

When I first met you
I did not know what to do
So I told you my funniest jokes
So you wouldn’t feel blue

Then we became close
And I noticed your smile
There’s just something about it
That makes me stop for a while

But then I found myself
Always looking at you
“What am I doing?”
And that moment I knew

I am entering something
That I can’t help doubting
I’m not sure if it’s true
But I think I am falling for you

At first, I thought this was wrong
And then I was singing to every song
But what else can I do?
Love is incredibly strong

The more I think of you
The more I see you
With your every blink
My heart skips a beat, too

If I say these words
What would you do
Because I adore you
If only you knew

Literary: Best Bes

8:30 PM, just got home

Hello? Gising ka pa ba?

Girl: Malamang gising pa ako, sumagot nga ako e. Eto ‘yung mga homework: worksheet sa math, notecards at love your mom.

Ako: …... (inaantok)

Girl: Bes! Nakikinig ka pa ba?! Bes!

Girl: *kinilig*
Eh best friend ba? Eh ikaw ‘ata ito.

Abot tainga ang ngiti ko. Hindi ko inaasahan iyon. Paanong nangyayari ito? Nanaginip ba ako? Langit siya, pogi lang ako.*

5:30 am, Just woke up

“Kriing, kriiing!!!”

Nagising ako sa aking kuwarto.
Litong-lito,
Nang tignan ko ang aking telepono,
‘Eto ang bumungad sa mata ko:

“Bes tinulugan mo ako.”

Literary: Dying Stars

Everyday, I count the minutes and hours,
Measuring how long I have loved you.
Just like the brightest of stars,
For the longest time I have been blue.

Gravity doesn’t mean much to me
For I know who I’m supposed to be,
Even though everything I love about you
Is everything I hate about me.

Open your eyes so you can see
Why the stars mean so much to me:
They are wishes that never came true,
Lights that died before it could even reach you.

Several years have passed,
Hundreds of hours wasted,
Searching for the perfect star
Before it eventually faded.

I wonder why in the universe
Would someone like me
Be so into you
Even though you will never see me

Literary: Every Place a Memory

I used to live in an old house
Far away from the city
From where we did a lot things
And brought away memories

I’ve been to different cities
Catching every single moment,
Keeping every single experience
From all those places

But then we relocated
To a place near the city
For me to be educated,
For a new beginning for me and my family

Later on, I entered this school
And immediately thought,
“Everything that happens from here on
Will soon be a part of our memories.”

Then came a heartbreaking incident:
We left the structure we used to call home
To be replaced by some shopping mall.
We have no choice but to move away and move on

Now, we have this new place
Where we can build new memories
To last forever
Like the memories of our past

Literary: Laro Tayo

Sa isang larong tinatawag na “pag-ibig”
Ang unang mahulog ay ang taya.
Hahabol ng hahabol hanggang sa makuha,
Ang matamis na “oo” na pinapangarap.

“Pagbilang ko ng tatlo nakatago na kayo.”
“Isa!” Sana hindi mahirap habulin.
“Dalawa!” Sana hindi mahirap suyuin.
“Tatlo!”

Literary: Barkada Stereotypes

The Joker
Masaya ang usapan kapag siya ay kasama
Ang nagpapaligaya sa’yo kapag BV ka
Kahit siya ay palaging masaya
Sa kaloob-looba’y may dinaramdam siya

The Rich kid
Nilibre kayo noong kaarawan niya
Dahil marami siyang pera

The Palibre kid
Laging ipapaalala sa’yo
Na pinahiram ka ng lapis noong grade 2
Lahat ng tao sa barkada bubulungan,
“Libre mo naman ako.”

The Plano kid

The Di-pinayagan kid
Masaya noong lahat na plano na
Excited na excited pa siya
Pag dating sa pupuntahan
“Sorry di ako pinayagan, di ako makapupunta”

The Emo kid
Gusto niyang laging mapag-isa
Doon daw siya masaya
Kapag tinanong kung okay ba siya
Ngingiti pa rin kahit di na kaya

Literary: The Music Within

Everyone is born a musician.
Whether we’re with a professional band,
Or simply singing in the bathroom,
Music is still within our hands.

From the day we were born,
We suffered; we strived.
Music is the only thing
That makes us feel alive.

From singing “Happy Birthday”,
To nursery rhymes,
To tapping the pencil,
And waiting for the right time.

It may be used as inspiration
Or some sort of communication.
It’s in the anthem of every nation.
The only limit is imagination.

Some are extremely talented;
Some can barely even sing.
But the way we execute it,
Is really the biggest thing.
