Literary (Submission): Come Back Home

Much to my dislike, I haven’t written anything in what feels like ages. I’m rusty and unsure if I still have the spark. Time hasn’t been nice to me when it comes to writing. I wish words would just flow right from my heart and into my fingertips again just like they used to. Maybe I’ve been too preoccupied and busy or maybe I just lack the inspiration I used to have back then.

When I was young, I never thought I would ever be able to write. I avoided it as much as possible. I tried my hand at it a few times in elementary school but I never seemed to be as good as the others were. It wasn’t until I gave it another go late in high school before I understood why.

Short stuff – I was better at writing short stuff. I wrote best when I put things in the simplest way for other people to understand. I found my niche early on as we took our classes and learned to write different things. I wrote and wrote and wrote (among various other things) for three years. I learned a lot about myself and others too during that time.

True, gone are the days of magic and love I’ve spent in this home, but one thing is for sure. The magic and love will stay and go on for an even longer time. Perhaps, I can relive it.

Literary: Side B

And here it is, the new playlist I created after I finished listening to the previous one. I’m starting again.

“I don’t wanna see you go, but it’s not forever, not forever…”

Emotions flood in as I listen to these songs. While every tune I hear is made up of the same eight notes in different pitches, the different arrangements bring me to different places, and make me remember many memories.

“…So I will try not to cry but no one needs to say goodbye.”

Songs enter one by one, randomly shuffled. Each melody reminding me of where I’ve been, while also showing me where else I could go. Every rhythm telling me what I’ve already felt and what else I could feel. Each beat, each strum, each riff – all showing me my legacy.

“Some legends are told, some turn to dust or to gold…”

After a while, the last notes of the last song slowly drifted away and my new playlist comes to an end. It was great while it lasted. It’s now time to share my playlists, old and new, to those who are willing to listen and to those who are willing to create.

“…We’ll go down in history, remember me for centuries.”

And as often said, when a door closes, a new one opens. Every end is a new beginning. May this adventure be as amazing, if not better, than the last one.

Literary: Admittance

These are the confessions of a girl who loved, of a girl who rued, of a girl who understood.

“I’m sorry. I feel like I’ve ruined our friendship and more. We used to be best friends – the three of us. I don’t think that’s still the case nowadays. Maybe it’s all of our faults but it’s probably just mine.

I fell in love not just with my best friend but also with my best friend’s boyfriend.

You were together when I first looked into his eyes and saw he could be so much more than a friend.
You were together when I imagined what it would be like to be the one in his arms instead.

You were together and believe it or not, I respected that.

But I didn’t do anything to stop him when he showed me his intentions. I, myself, did not make a move to get him but he somehow implied my feelings were returned.

He started looking at me the way he looked at you. He hugged me tighter than he did before. He talked to me first whenever he has good news and he didn’t even tell you the gist of his story. He suddenly ended everything with you and I never reminded him that he’s committed to you and not me.

I’m sorry if I came off as selfish. I never intended to be the reason why your heart was broken by the guy we both loved.

Don’t worry. He broke my heart too.”

Literary: Win or Lose

PRESS START
What we had was a game, wasn’t it? A whole adventure with many places to explore challenges to play. Rivals that come along and previous champions to defeat. You wanted me to play your game and I joined willingly hoping two could win.

los·er, noun
: Someone or something that loses a game, contest, etc.
: Someone who is harmed or put in a worse position as the result of something

GAME OVER
That day you left me, I felt terrible. It was a bitter defeat after trying to beat the boss level for so long. I tried so hard with strategies, even cheat codes. But nothing ever worked. Only one could win and that was you.

win·ner, noun
: Someone or something that wins a contest, prize, etc.
: A very good or successful person or thing

CHAMPION
It feels like I wasted so much time playing a game I was only tempted to win. I didn’t want to give up but I found out that the game wasn’t for me. I realized, though, that this game taught me a lot of lessons so I still thought that I was the player who won after all.

Literary: Zemblanity x Mea Culpa

Zemblanity

I'll ask.
I'm ready.
I should.
And I know that.

So that the heart would stop raging,
ending its silent screams.
So that the brain would stop doubting,
for closure to finally begin.

Because in this dream,
I was your reality.
But in this reality,
You are only just a dream.

So I'm prepared to stop playing,
and finally lose the game,
So I would finally stop clinging
to the agonizing hope that you will stay.

I asked.
I wasn't ready.
I think I shouldn't have.
I knew it.

Mea Culpa

I’ll tell you.
I’m not sorry.
I should be.
And I know that.

So that the mind will be clear,
no cause for pain or fear.
So that the heart can be free,
for you are no longer with me.

Because in this dream,
You are not my reality.
But in this reality,
I am not just your dream.

So I will end this game we play,
because I know I cannot stay
So you wouldn’t be the one to pay
the price of something I thought I’ll never say.

I told you.
I’m sorry.
I think I shouldn’t have.
I knew it.

Literary: Me

Poems, songs, stories.

I’ve written all these things about our love: how it started, how it felt, how it ended.

I even wrote something for him to know that I’ve written a lot about us, and that he has been a part of a universe I wrote about; a universe only a handful of people know about.

But now that I’ve moved on, I’ve realized that it’s about time I write about a different love story, about a different kind of freedom I can’t explain.

I’ll be writing about myself.

I am my own Valentine and the love of my life. It’s a more important love, I think. I know I cannot love with all my heart until I love myself.

I’m not afraid that I don’t have a Valentine this year and probably even in the next few years. I’ll be thinking about me, not because he told me so and I agreed, but because no one deserves love from me more than myself.

It won’t be “I love you” from now on, because it’s time to love me.

Literary: Definition

When I tell you “I love you,” it only means I love you.
It doesn’t mean I have a crush on you or I like you.
It doesn’t mean I love my best guy friend or my childhood crush.
All it means is that I love you.

But do you know what it doesn’t mean?
It doesn’t mean that you love me back or that you have to do so.
It doesn’t mean that I’m important to you.
It doesn’t even mean that I’m a part of your life.
It doesn’t mean anything else
Because all it means when I tell you “I love you”
Is that I do.

Literary: Artwork

For an artist, her art is her universe. Her art is for eternity for no one can change it.

A singer’s melody,
A dancer’s pirouette,
An actress’ line,
A painter’s brush stroke,
A writer’s sentence.

And in her art…is her love. Her love for you.

You are every part of her and her art.
You are each and every note of her musical piece.
You are every movement in her routine.
You are every emotion in her performance.
You are all the colors of her palette.
You are every word of her poem.

In each of her works is a piece of you, the one she loves. You are in everything. You are her everything.

Her art shows every part of you.
You are her art.
You are her universe, for eternity.

I promised you so many things that I couldn't list them all in one go, but sadly I was not able to fulfill all of them like you did, too.

The last few promises I made will be the ones I won't break. I'll prove it to you whether you come back or not, because every single promise I made to you means so much to me. For now, goodbye, Link.

Literary: Minus Two

Lost
What am I doing?
Honestly, I have no idea
But I am no coward
So I go on forward

First Sight
I caught you wandering into my zone
Out of astonishment, my world froze
A few seconds seemed like an eternity
But it was one I’d want to spend in your company

Meeting
Ever since our fateful encounter
I have wanted to get closer
So I walked your way
And said… “Hey”

Light
When you came into my life
Everything seemed a bit brighter
I thought that it would be the beginning of a happy song
But fate simply loves proving me wrong

Tale of Four
A time of entropy was upon us
Paths divided by twos and fours
Leading towards unknown destinations
To you, I leave the decision

The End
I knew it, what I had to do
Our happiness, to remain as memories
He knew this too, I can tell
With a heavy heart, I bid him farewell

The Unexpected
I can no longer hold back my feelings
Those I’ve kept dormant
I got you in isolation
In order to hear my confession

Truth
I, too, have something to admit
That for quite some time
I have admired you
“I love you, too”

Triumph for Two
The battle of hearts comes to an end
But the war of love wages on
Now dawns a new age of gold
With a thousand new stories to be told

Literary: Journal

My favorite book is the journal where I keep the memories we shared. It’s the one book I will always flip back to the first page and read all over again. It’s the one book I will always carry with me just in case I have free time to read. It’s the one book that makes me laugh out loud and cry so hard.

I never seem to get sick of remembering all the times I’ve spent with you. All the times we walked along that pathway on the park just before we get to your house. All the times we kept battling Sugarman in X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse because Storm and Magneto kept dying and we had no idea how to use Iceman and Scarlet Witch. And yes, of course I remember that time we finally defeated him and Apocalypse, too. All the times we both ran out of money because of buying coffee and watching movies. All the times that we would take so many pictures with you making funny faces and me just staring at you judgingly for it.

I will never forget you. The way your cheekbones become so round and full whenever you laughed. The way your nose crinkles when you’re disgusted. The way your voice resonates whenever you sung to me. The way your body gracefully moves to the beat of the music when you danced for me. The way you held my hand whenever I needed you. I will never forget your eyes, your smile, your laugh. Everything. I will never forget you.

I wrote down every single great and happy memory I have of you. I filled a whole book with you and me. And I will always treasure it and everything in it. I will keep it in my heart as I will keep you.

Literary: Playlist

“Living in my own world, didn’t understand…”

A new playlist will be played with a new set of songs included. As the first song starts, I also begin to feel a range of emotions. I hear the Intro and I start to feel excited. Once I hear the words and the beautiful melody, I start to understand what is coming up. Here goes the harmony and it feels very different. Things are falling into place and are blending in perfectly together. I keep getting hooked as the song continues.

“…I feel in my heart, the start of something new.”

As I hear the first song ending, I start to feel the suspense of waiting for what song will start next. And now, here it comes. A new range of emotions is felt again as yet another song comes. This cycle goes on and on all the while I was listening to my new playlist.

“Took a deep breath in the mirror. He didn’t like it when I wore high heels…”

My playlist now comes to an end and I’m a little disappointed. But here’s the thing about it ending—it is giving me a chance to create a new one and listen to it. I have been given a chance to start again.

“But on a Wednesday, in a café, I watched it begin again…”
