For 2x9: UPCAT Tips from UPIS Alumni
“Breathe. As much as possible, try to enjoy the UPCAT. Forget the pressure during this time because it won’t help you.
At this point, there’s no use studying/cramming for the UPCAT. Have faith in your stock knowledge or what you know as of now. It’s all you need tbh!
Do something fun or therapeutic before the UPCAT! It helps that you’re happy and relaxed before the test. Watching a feel-good movie or video will go a long way.

“Hi Batch 2018! I know you're all scared but they say the UPCAT is the easiest college entrance exam. The thing that makes it hard is the competition. Just a few tips- skip the questions you find hard and go back after everything. Don't spend too much time on one question ‘cause you might not get the chance to even answer the others.
Relax before the exam. Don't stress yourself too much. All you need to know has been taught to you in school for the past few years.
Also, don’t forget to treat yourself after the exam! You guys deserve it! Good luck guys!!! Rooting for all of you!!!”

Wag ka na magdala ng maraming food kasi di mo rin makakain, swear!
Wag kang kabahan, dapat chill ka lang pag nagtake ng exam.

“MAG-ARAL. Syempre, una sa lahat, siguraduhing nakapag-aral nang bonggang-bongga bago ang takdang araw ng UPCAT. (Hindi ito seatwork na pwede i-cram at hindi ka si Macky Barrientos na kayang-kaya pumasa na stock knowledge lang ang dala. Charot. Hi Macky! :p)
MAGHANDA. Ihanda lahat ng kailangan gabi umaga pa lang. Lapis, pambura, test permit, jacket, baon, brain cells at kahit ootd, ‘yan ihanda mo ‘yan!
WATCH. Magsuot ka ng relo para ikaw na mismo magtrack sa sarili mong oras habang sumasagot ka. Alam mo na, para walang gulatan na 5 mins left na lang pala.
CHECK. Laging i-check kung nasusundan mo pa yung numbering sa pagsagot. I-check kung nalagay mo rin lahat ng info na kailangan sa test paper. Check, check, check. Walang masama magdouble check ng sagot.
PRAY. Manalangin o magdasal ka syempre. Bago at pagkatapos ng exam, in between din kung gusto mo.
Siguro, tandaan niyo na lang na UPCAT lang yan, malayo sa bituka. HAHAHAHA. Sabi nga nila, 'yan daw ang pinakamadaling exam na ite-take niyo sa buong UP life niyo, kasi ‘pag nakapasok na kayo sa UP, ‘dun magkakaalaman. Kaya chill lang mga bes. Galingan ninyo at tiwala lang!

“Hold on to your UPIS education while taking the UPCAT. Focus lang. Don't stress too much about the result right away (there are many ways to enter UP!) but at the same time, be careful when you answer the test items. Taking UPCAT is one thing, finishing your undergraduate degree in this university is another. Marami pa tayong haharapin but always remember to find the joy in the things that we do.
Aim for 100% UPIS Batch 2018! God Bless!”

"1) Nakakatawa mang pakinggan pero huwag kayong masyadong mag-review. Hindi naman kailangang pati scientific name ng langaw alam niyo jusq. Saks na review lang! Ma-buburnout kasi kayo kapag sobra. Pag nangyari yon, ang ending niyo ay pagod at drained huhu (ayaw natin yon).
2) Sleep early!!! Tama na muna ‘yang FB, twitter, tumblr, insta, snap, tinder o kung ano pa man yan. Makakapaghintay ‘yang mga yan, ang UPCAT hindi. Tsaka, gusto nating maganda/pogi tayo kapag mag-tetake ng exam diba? Marami din kasing pogi’t magaganda kayong makakasabay na mag-exam. Kailangan itsura pa lang, palaban na. UPIS represent ganon chz.
3) Pagkain! Magdala kayo ng saktong dami ng snacks. Pero yung light lang (Nung time ko kasi, yung katabi ko may dalang sliced pakwan nkklk huhu) para maiwasan ang paglabas at paggamit ng cr.
4) Dapat alam niyo kung saang college at room kayo kukuha ng exam. Mamaya natapos niyo na’t lahat yung exam pero hindi pala kayo doon sa college/room na iyon assigned. Iyaq.
5) RELAX. As in. Tsaka i-enjoy niyo yung exam.
Alam kong importante sa inyo ang araw ng UPCAT. Alam ko ring ninenerbyos kayo. Pero hindi naman magugunaw ang mundo kapag hindi kayo pumasa. Maraming options na kung saan pwede pa rin kayong makapasok sa UP pag nangyari yon (Pero ‘di ko naman sinasabing maging kampante na kayo and everything. Laban pa rin). May mga certificate courses sa UPD! Meron sa Theater Arts, Music (dance), Malikhaing Pagsulat sa Ingles at Filipino, at syempre sa Fine Arts (na kinuha ko yay). Kailangan niyo lang mag-take ng talent test para makapasok. Tsaka hindi naman batayan ng katalinuhan kung nakapasa ka o hindi sa UPCAT so kebs na!!
Naniniwala ako sa kakayahan at talino niyo at ng iba pang UPIS students! Mayabang mang pakinggan pero i-claim na natin— MAGAGALING TAYO PAK!
Kung hindi mag-wwork ang Plan A, may 25 letters pa ang alphabet bes kaya don’t give up ‘kay?

News: Batch 2018 prepares for UPCAT
UPIS Batch 2018 attended two orientation programs in preparation for taking the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT) at the 4th Floor AV Room last January 31 and February 7.
Batch 2018 is the first batch of students to take the UPCAT since AY 2014-2015, the last school year before the K-12 program was fully implemented.

The first talk given by Ms. Dianne Catibog of the UP Diliman Office of Admissions aimed to foster awareness on the whole UPCAT process - including application requirements, exam coverage, and test-taking tips. Colleges and courses offered in UP Diliman were also discussed.
Dr. Tristan Nathaniel Ramos, director of the UP Manila Office of Student Affairs, facilitated the second orientation wherein a list of the colleges and courses offered in UP Manila were enumerated. Dr. Ramos also shared bits and personal stories from his student days in UP Manila.
The talks were organized by the Department of Student Services in coordination with the admissions offices of UP Diliman and UP Manila.

UPIS Juniors and Seniors travel back to the roaring twenties in Mirage 2016
It was a soiree of opulence and luxor.Batches 2018 (2x9) and 2019 (19nite) illuminated The Grand Terrace, Quezon City in their Junior-Senior Promenade, dubbed Mirage, last February 27, 2016.
This year’s prom features The Great Gatsby, a 1920s inspired masquerade. The batches’ subject teachers and school administration personnel, including principal Dr. Ronaldo M. San Jose also graced the event.
The seniors passed on their responsibilities to the juniors during the turnover ceremony. The key of responsibility was handed over by Franz Candido, the Senior Council president, to Ron Castro, the Junior Association president; the torch of light from Drew Magbag to Chesca Joves; and the banner of excellence from Marianne Sasing to Patience Ventura.
Chosen pairs from each batch presented in the cotillion. Bands and other artists from both batches also performed for the event.

UPIS students participate in I Can Fly program
Cathay Pacific, four-time World's Best Airline honoree, chose 15 UPIS students to be the participants in the pioneer installment of their I Can Fly program in the Philippines.I Can Fly aims to encourage the interest of high school students in aviation and social service by giving them firsthand exposure to the airline industry. Out of more than 60 hopefuls, the airline's executives selected seniors Ernest Arceo, Caila Cadiz, David de Layola, Fiel Delos Reyes, Ryan Dimayuga, Brian Gabriel, RJ Gallebo, Lyka Lubang, Caitlin Norona, Hazel Romero, Nica Sampan, Chesca Santiago, Marianne Sasing, Danna Sumalabe, and Layla Wadi to take part in the program.

From May 25-28, the students were introduced to Cathay's corporate operations and had a hand on making promotional materials for its Life Well Travelled campaign. They got to see the airline's engineers, ground staff, and cabin crew in action at the Clark and Manila airports and assisted in a basketball clinic in an orphanage.
The program concluded with a graduation ceremony on May 30 where the students were given medals and certificates of participation. Cathay Pacific also chose three of them—Delos Reyes, Norona, and Sasing—to visit the airline's Hong Kong office in October this year. / CCCA

The main goal of the activity is for the Grade 9 and Grade 7 students to get to know each other and to strengthen the relationship between the two batches. Also, the games aim to teach the UPIS Students values like patience, persistence, and obedience to rules.
Activities include flag-making and group cheer presentation followed by obstacle courses, time-constraint challenges, and sensory tests.
Awardees were announced during the closing ceremony spearheaded by JA President Danna Sumalabe. The Black team won best cheer, Pink team won best logo, and the Green team was crowned as the best team. The individual awardees are “Surviboy” Allane Barles, “Survigirl” Ria Amano, and "Ok ka lang beh!" awardee Blade Saliva.

8-Honeybee wins annual Music Culminating Activity
The three Grade 8 sections of Batch 2018 competed in the annual Music culminating activity at the UPIS auditorium last March 14.The overall theme for the program featured blues music. Each presentation had a song-and-dance number. Music instructor Leujim Martinez invited three blues musicians and experts to judge the Grade 8 classes.
8-Honeybee won first place for their lively performance of "Just Like a Woman."
8-Ladybug performed a dramatic love story of a woman and man who met and fell in love in a bar while Firefly went next with the story of a forbidden love between a white man and a black girl.
An intermission number was performed by Tracy Carreon and Uriel Sunga, with Ryan Cacho on the guitar. The judges showcased a blues number with 8th grader Bjorn Amargo on drums before the results were announced.
Honeyboys wins Battle of the Bands
With their rendition of Winter Wonderland and Huling Sayaw, the Honeyboys from Batch 2018 won first place in Space Jam, the annual Battle of the Bands (BotB), held last December 17.The Honeyboys, composed of Rene Rollon, Blade Saliva, David de Layola, Bjorn Amargo, Franz Candido, and lone female member Faith Austria, bested six other bands including Batch 2014 bands Budaga and Ganband which came in second and third respectively.
Each band was required to perform at least two songs, one of those being a Christmas song. UPIS Batch 2018, also known as 2x9, battled back from their fourth place finish last year to win Best Cheer and Best Costume, and the overall Power Dance Championship after wowing the crowd with a fun and creative street dance routine featuring the UPIS students of the future. Batches from Grades 7 to 10 initially had a difficult time adjusting to their new surroundings, limited practice space, and tight schedule but still rehearsed and prepared well for the event.
2x9's victory marks the first time in more than ten years that a Grade 8 batch won the Power Dance plum.

The Sophomore Association organized the party with the purpose of igniting the friendship between the two batches.
A few interaction games were played like the Speedy game and Red, Orange, Yellow.
The performers included: Therese de Sales Papa, Samuel Silvestre, Yumi dela Torre, Caitlin Norona, 6th Ave., Ktips, 8-Ladybug, and X-Pride.
The Best Dressed Awards called “Girl on Fire” and “Boy on Fire” were awarded to Hannah Manalo and Allane Barles for Grade 8 and Ravi Gaudiel and Gabriel Aparato for Grade 7.
