Literary (Submission): A Fiery Night

As I look up into the steamy sky, fuzzy orbs of light float around, illuminating the cave ceiling. The dark horizon seem less inviting than the bright heavens. In the middle of the street, many carriages and people come and go. I felt my suitcase weigh on my hand. My palms were sweaty and my legs were shaking. I looked above hoping that I wouldn’t have to take another step forward. Yet I did.

Goodbye, City of Steam, I shall visit you in my dreams.

Literary (Submission): Salamin

"Salamin, salamin, ipakita sa'kin
Malalabong tanawing dapat tuklasin,"

Mga salitang sa aki’y iyong sambitin.
Papansinin lang kung kailan naisin.

Malayo sa tingin, sa iyo'y palapitin.
Ang tangi mong hiling ay aking linawin.

Ibinigay ko ang 'yong nais ngayundin.
Natagpuan mo na ang nais abutin.

Subalit di na ako binigyang-pansin
'Pagkat nakita mo na ang susuyuin.

Kahit lagpasan mo man ako ng tingin,

Literary: Mother's Pet Shop

Mother started her pet shop 121 years ago. Although, she just finished paying an unfair debt 73 years ago.

Her pet shop has had 16 managers. Unfortunately, the first had to be fired due to the unfair debt. The actions of the managers after that had to be approved by the debt collectors. A new one was appointed when the old debt collectors were bought out by other debt collectors. However, the old ones came back and saw that Mother’s shop was not doing well since the new debt collectors, so they just forgave Mother’s debt and left, claiming that they “saved” the pet shop from an oppressive debt scheme.

The first few managers that Mother was able to appoint by herself did well in getting things back up. Unfortunately, the one who showed great potential to do good, turned out to be pocketing money from the register to buy his wife tons of shoes. He also paid the janitor to make the doves disappear. He claimed the doves had the “Red Plague”. His “New Pet Shop” plan also turned out to be a scam. Mother kicked him out and he joined up with the old debt collectors.

Things from then on have not been so great. Another manager was kicked out for stealing money. Only this time, he was also running a poker club in the basement. The one after that spent too much time talking on the phone with her friend Garci. The next one tried to set things straight, but he didn’t really do much at all.

The latest one appealed to Mother because he seemed determined to set things right and he promised all the unwanted merchandise would be “wiped out” in 3 to 6 months. Except not only did that not happen, but Mother also suspected that he killed the black cats that won’t sell. He claimed the black cats were too violent to be on sale due to an alleged catnip addiction. He also started to sound like one of the parrots with his false promises, rants and swearing. He also blames other pet shops for our lack of business. Mother’s other pet shop-owning friends all agree our manager is out of control.

Mother hoped he would change his ways. Like the manager whose wife had a shoe fetish, he could have done so much good for the pet shop if he just paid attention to what the animals and customers needed. At the very least, it would have been great if he stopped swearing like a parrot.

By this point mother was fed up, she had it with managers stealing from her, abusing the animals and in general not being productive and beneficial for the pet shop and the animals living there. She walked right up to the manager and said, “If you don’t straighten yourself up, you’ll be worse than fired!” She then listed in alphabetical order the many ways other pet shops dealt with their crooked managers. When he heard about the pet shop across town and what they did to their manager who ate cake instead of feeding the animals, he knew what he should do.

Now he no longer “does away” with the cats, he now puts them through an adoption program. He also now limits his rants to once a month. Things are now looking up for Mother’s pet shop, another pet shop even decided to invest in it. The only remainder of the bad days are the parrots who still unfortunately swear and rant.

Literary: Drowning to Fly

The sun above is high in the sky
Far, yet within hand’s reach
Its light is warm and bright
Yet it never reaches us

An ocean in the sky
Deep blue, shrouded in darkness
Between the earth and heavens
Go through it to reach the sky

People yearn for the sun
To fly into its light and warmth
People strive onward and upward
Only to fall back to the ground

This ocean is infinite and perilous
Pass the abyss in its stomach
The sun is waiting on the other side
The promised land is there

The higher you swim the heavier it becomes
Muscles ache, your heart breaks
The closer you reach, the farther the dawn
Swim into the abyss to reach the sun

Going up feels like sinking rock bottom
Swimming or drowning, it’s all the same
Up feels down and down feels up
Where do you go to grasp for air?

Light fades, darkness seeps in
Warmth disappears, cold sinks in
Breath runs out, lungs start to fail
Must reach the sun

To reach the sun, dive into the sea
The sea that traps you within
Go through the deep cold abyss
And take the promised warmth

Feel needles prick you as you dive deep
Feel the water close in on you as you swim
Light blue sky replaced with a dark blue abyss
A speck of light to keep you going

Going through the cold to reach the warmth
Diving deep to reach the sky
Drowning to fly
Laughable

Literary: A Feeling

A giant pegasus broke its left wing,
Unable to fly and move—losing the hope of
Moving on.
The pegasus wanted to go to the east,
To find his purpose,
To make a new life,
And to search for a nurse that could heal his broken wing.
Unable to flinch,
One crocodile went near the pegasus,
Making the pegasus feel uncomfortable and scared,
Scary, pegasus says in his mind.
For he thinks it’s impossible to win against him.
Looking at the crocodile’s figure—
Pegasus thought:
Huge, masculine… But at the same time,
He looks empty.
“I’m as broken as you, fellow pegasus,”
Crocodile muttered under his breath, scaring the pegasus.
“How did you know that I’m broken?”
The Pegasus asked, completely clueless.
“Your wings,”
The crocodile said,
“It’s broken, pegasus. However, the level of brokenness between us isn’t the same.”
Confused, Pegasus continued to ask more questions.
“What do you mean, crocodile?”
“You’re broken physically,”
Crocodile said quietly.
“I’m broken emotionally.”
Pegasus was speechless.
The silence between them was awkward.
He doesn’t even know what to say
For he has not experienced emotional brokenness.
“You know,”
Crocodile huffed,
“there really are things that don’t go as planned
as we thought it would be.”

Literary: Star-hopping

“The entire universe in which we live in, the glowing expanse of stars that we see above us are all just empty, burning balls of gas that float around in space.” Gio closed the book that his friend lent him. He loved the stars; he loved looking out of his window and staring at the glittering river above. Gio always thought stars contained towns or villages, or even strange people who also looked down at him, but the book said otherwise. His reverie was cut short with a call from his mom, “Gio! Go and buy me some spices from the market for dinner for tomorrow, okay? No need to rush. And while you are at it, why not visit the planetarium to check the stars, like you always do? Just don’t forget to be back before it’s very late! And look out for the boy in the cape!”

Gio was filled with excitement as he hopped off from where he was sitting by the window, put his shoes on and started to walk. He didn’t mind the stories of the boy in the cape that was coming from his mom. She would usually tell Gio that this boy was like death and would take Gio away from her so he should stay away. Gio didn’t believe this tale for he always thought that his mother was way too superstitious.

“Take care!” his mother called after him.

Gio passed by a shop that sells telescopes and yet again, the thought of the book about the empty burning gases being somewhat wrong entered Gio’s mind. He began to imagine what it would feel like if he was right. What sorts of people would I meet in a star such as the Polaris? Perhaps a boy of 9 like my age? And what about the Alpha Centauri? Centaurs probably! Gio chuckled at this thought and decided to move on before he forgot the task at hand.

Since his mother did say that he didn’t need to rush, Gio decided to make a little detour. He followed the river that perfectly reflected the moon and then he entered a forest guided by fireflies and his memory of navigating through. Gio thought that the amount of fireflies that were present were odd, considering that it was not really the season in which fireflies came out often but he dismissed the thought with a shake of his head. Maybe I’m just tired, I keep seeing unusual amounts of fireflies.
Passing through, he got to a clearing full of dandelions. He felt tired so he laid down for a moment and closed his eyes for a quick nap knowing that no one passes by the field at that time of the night.
Gio felt someone staring at him so he opened his eyes and there he saw a boy smiling at him. He was wearing a cape of some sort and he had hair that stood up at its ends just like spines on a porcupine. “I’m Raffy. Welcome to Polaris,” he said. There was something on the back of Gio’s mind telling him that he knows Raffy but he can’t recall where he’s seen the other person.

“What?” Gio was utterly confused. “So what you are telling me, Raffy, is that I’m on the star, Polaris? And that there are plenty of other stars that are like this?”

Gio and Raffy sat in the middle of a field of dandelions talking for quite some time with Raffy mostly explaining stars and Gio staring at the sky trying to absorb all the information that Raffy was throwing at him.

“There are other stars such as the Alpha Centauri and Betelgeuse that also have people and animals living there, like me. All that it takes is for us to hop on the other star, it’s not a very far distance, you see.” Gio suddenly stood up. If star-hopping means he would get to prove that stars aren’t empty burning gases, then why not try it out? With shining eyes he proclaimed, “Let us go star-hopping, Raffy! I think we’ll be good friends!”

The pair stood at what you could call edge of Raffy’s star. They held hands and closed their eyes, focusing on a particular star, Alpha Centauri, as their destination. They felt a slight tug and warmth on their chests, and a squeeze.

Then they opened their eyes. Before them was Alpha Centauri. There, they were met with a rather tall looking half-man, half-horse, which they realized was a centaur who was shooting arrows at nothingness. He was rather grouchy and when the boys asked him about his star he just answered with “This is the best star out there. Have you ever seen a star that is as big as this? Do the other stars have me, the Alpha Centaur, who is the best archer there is? No! Of course not!” And at that he laughed heartily and continued to shoot arrows.

Gio and Raffy were given bows and arrows by the centaur since he felt like he has responsibility as the Alpha Centaur to teach those who are under him to be as strong as him. They also tried to shoot arrows but their strength was not the same as the Alpha Centaur so the arrows ended up only a few feet in front of them. Because of this, the Alpha Centaur became mad and uttered in a loud voice, “Begone you feeble children! Only the strong shall be welcomed on this star!” And so the boys went on their way.

Once again, they stood at the edge of the star, closed their eyes, held hands, and focused on Betelgeuse as the next destination. Gio and Raffy felt the tug, the warmth, and the squeeze once more and opened their eyes.

They arrived at Betelgeuse, a rather large star that had a railway station that had a sign that said “FOR THE GALACTIC EXPRESS” and railroads that extended off to the horizon. The boys waited for the train to arrive at the empty station.

“So, Gio, what do you think of Alpha Centauri?” Raffy asked, “Do you think you are strong enough to be welcomed by me, the Alpha Centaur, in this magnificent star?” he mocked. Gio pondered a bit about this. True, the Alpha Centaur was a weird creature but he wanted the best for his star and which is to have only strong archers.

“Odd and cranky dude that’s for sure,” Gio replied.

Soon enough, the train arrived. A short and stout man who introduced himself as Sir Real, the train conductor, hurriedly made them step inside as he muttered, “Oh dear, we are late, you lot need to move faster!”

He pushed the boys inside and made them sit in the middle car.

The train coach was rather well-lit and looked very fancy. The seats were a very comfortable leather that had little buttons sewn onto them. The table was made of fine wood that had been polished neatly. Sir Real, the train conductor holding trays suddenly appeared standing beside the now seated Gio. He handed out the plates full of odd dishes for the two boys. Gio’s stomach growled for he has not yet eaten for a very long time now. In front of him was a gray mush that resembles gray mashed potatoes but when eaten, weirdly tasted like cake.

After eating, Raffy pulled up the coach window and stared at the sky. Gio did the same thing and marveled at the sight. It was not much different from the view back home but the stars seemed to shine even more brightly in Betelgeuse.

“I read somewhere that this is the most wonderful place to look at them,” Raffy’s eyes mirrored the illumination of the stars, “don’t you agree, Gio?” Gio simply nodded, unable to formulate words that could give justice to what he was seeing.

“Now, boys, let me see your train tickets,” the conductor held out his hand expectantly. The boys felt a flash of panic. Raffy answered, “Well you see, Sir Real, we were simply star hopping and did not know how to purchase train tickets.”

Sir Real sighed, “I’m sorry boys, but I’ll have to ask you both to hop off on the next train stop.” The train conductor paused, checked his map, and smiled, “Well, you boys are lucky, the next stop is a new star and both of you are going to be the first ones in it. We will arrive in a few moments.”

Finally, the train stopped on a barren star, with no animals, or trains, or even a name. The only thing that the star had was a river. Gio and Raffy hopped off and the train chugged off.

The boys circled the entire star which was not big at all. The river did, however, mirror the stars beyond it, making the water look like it was sparkling. Gio and Raffy sat by the river and recalled the adventures that they had that night, the centaur with his arrows, the train with its odd food and beautiful view, and Raffy’s home filled with dandelions.

“Gio, what are you going to do after all this?” Raffy asked looking at the other boy with enthusiastic eyes.

“Probably go back home and buy the spices that my mother asked me to buy. You?” Gio answered, still staring at the river.

“I will maybe stay on my star and wait for you to come back so that we can go star-hopping again. Maybe it’s not yet time for you to stay here, your mother still needs you,” Raffy said sadly.

There was silence between the boys as they stared at the river thinking of what would happen next. Gio turned toward his friend and saw that the seat beside him was empty. There was no indication of Raffy ever sitting there. Gio stood up quickly and became dizzy because of this. He swayed a little and fell into the starry river where he was enveloped by darkness.

Gio bolted up from where he was lying down, in the field of dandelions where he fell asleep. His heart was pounding and his cheeks were wet with tears. He looked up and saw that the stars were still the same. Feeling confused and sadness tugging at his heart for some reason, he stood up and walked home.

He passed by the planetarium to check out the stars. As if his dream was real, he saw the centaur shooting an arrow on one star, a train with a stout conductor on another, a bright shining river, and a boy with an odd cape and pointy black hair like a porcupine’s spines smiling down on him.

Literary: Stitched

Stitches, stitches
Which thread do I pick?
Do I do a backstitch
Or do I do a random stitch?

Stitches stitches
It feels as if my heart is in stitches
Such memories I’ve rendered
That badly I wanted to surrender

Stitches stiches
Stitches in my mind
I grab my needle and thread
To stitch everything and have a rest

Stitches stitches
Something crawled into my mind
Hands wringing then stiffening
Teeth gnarled, I’m about to scream-

Stitches, stitches:
The room’s now full of stitches
Through the cracks of the ceilings
Threads and stitches you’ll see

Red over black
Then black over red
A thin thread of black
A thick thread of red

Stitches stitches
The wall’s adorned with stitches,
All pictures and memories
Fastened with threads

Stitches stitches
My ballpens are in stitches,
So are my watches,
My morning clock
My study lamp.

Down in the kitchen,
It’s also full of stitches.
Stitches in the cupboard
Through its wooden doors

Stitches on the refrigerator.
Through its metallic doors
Inside are my apples
That are in stitches

Through its red cavity
Wound the same threads
Always red and black
Always thick over thin

Look at my watermelons.
My cakes, my sauces
Salt and other spices
Nothing left not in stitches

Next is my living room--
My stitched living room.
The glass window is stitched,
So are the clocks and calendars.

My whole house is in stitches;
My car, my plants.
All are in stitches,
Even the cement walls are in stitches

The only thing that wasn’t stitched--
Isn’t stitched, is me.
I took my needle and thread
And to people like you, I said:

“Deep inside my chest,
There’s something torn into pieces
It’s just there waiting,
Waiting to get stitched.”

So, to ignore the pain,
I stitched everything else in place.
Everything that I could see:
Stitched it would be.

You might say “She’s insane,”
Or “She’s just in vain.”
But I hope you’ll understand
What this really meant

The red thread
Is the what you have presented
What I expect is love
But what you give is blood

The black thread
Represents the darkness
Which you’ve drawn into me
Like a disease invading a body

I did everything I can
I made your quilt
Which you use when in cold
In the middle of the night

I made your towel
Which you use when working
In the middle of the day
Through the fields of grain

I made your blanket
Which I cover you with
Everytime when you’re sick
Or when it’s time for sleeping

Now I tried to forget
Forget these things
And control the anger
Through stitching objects

Stitches stitches
I won’t stop with stitches
I grab my needle and thread
And start stitching, forget the rest

Literary: Mundo

Literary: Lumiere, Darling

The room was full of people with high hopes
It was finally the night they've been waiting for
Talking, dancing, being illuminated by the colorful lights
All were wearing smiles that were twice as bright

Across the room, sat a boy and a girl
Beside them were speakers playing loudly,
But to the two who sat,
The world was quiet, finally

He talked about things that fascinate him
She didn't say anything and just listened
For she was already fascinated
Not merely by his presence, but also by his existence

Her favorite song played so she took his hand
She looked into his eyes as they started to dance
She saw nothing but the kindest of souls,
His clarity amidst all the chaos

As magical as the night was,
She knew it wouldn't last
Tomorrow, they’ll be the same as before
And to him, she’ll be nothing but a stranger

Kabilugan ng buwan,
Buwan ng kabilugan
Ang nagbabaga sa aking kaisipan
Ay ang buwan at ang kabilugan

Kay dilim dito sa Diliman
Sa Diliman ay kay dilim
Naglalakbay sa kulimlim
‘di alam ang madadaanan

Paikot-ikot
Sa mga pasikot-sikot
Ang nadaanan na
Ay madadaanan pa

Natatakluban ng mga puno
Ang daang nalakbay na ng mga ninuno
Tingin dito, tingin doon

Literary: How I Passed

I make my way to my bed.
As I lay, I close my eyes.
Unknowingly, I fall asleep.
I’m alone in a white room,
When suddenly, everything turns black.
I can hear whispers everywhere
As if there is a crowd of fears
They 're getting closer and closer
I can’t breathe,
Their presence makes me suffocate
I can't move
I’m trying my best to run,
To get away from them.
The second they’re an inch close to me
I wake up
But I still can’t move
I try to at least move my finger
But it appears to be too late.
These are my last seconds…
Alas, death has decided to pay me a visit
To finally take me away.

Literary: Kahita

Napakagaan,
Wala akong maramdaman
Nakalutang ba ako?
Nasaan ako?

Ang bigat,
Parang bitbit ko ang mundo.
Nakalubog ba ako?
Ano ito?

Wala na,
Wala na akong maramdaman.
Unti-unti na akong bumababa't
Wala nang pag-asang umangat.

Ang lambot!
Aba, himala't naramdaman ko
Sa sobrang pagkamanhid ko't
Sa sobrang pagkaayaw ko sa mundo.

Ang sikip,
Hindi ako makagalaw.
Ang init,
Hindi ako makahinga.

Ang komportable,
Ayaw ko na itong lisanin
Gusto kong manatili rito.
Matutulog na ako nang napakahimbing.

Gumagalaw,
Pababa pero mabagal.
May kanta
Pero hindi masaya.

Bakit kayo umiiyak?
Hindi ba dapat kayo ay masaya?
Ako lang ba ang natutuwa?
Sa wakas ako'y makapagpapahinga na.

Ganito ba talaga ang pakiramdam
Na ikaw ay nakahiga
Hindi sa magarbong kama
Kundi sa isang magarbong kahita

Hindi ko alam
Hindi ko kailangang malaman
Hindi ko kailanman aalamin
Bahala na...

Tumigil na...
Tapos na ba?
Paalam,
Tapos na nga.

Literary: Longing

Home isn’t a place but a feeling
A feeling for which some have spent their lives searching
Leaving us clueless and keeping us questioning
If such a feeling is real and worth the longing

Is this even worth the time and effort I’ve been giving?
Should I stop seeking for this unfamiliar feeling?
So many questions, yet no answers given
Then everything changed all of a sudden

When I play my song and hear you in my melody
Or when you set my mind straight at this sea of uncertainty
These little things that set my heart aflame
I only felt since you came

I used to think that this was simply surreal
But this feeling, my heart can no longer conceal
This feeling I’ve longed for because I was alone
You’ve been giving me all along, the feeling called home

Literary: Eroplano

Nawawalan ng kabuluhan at kahulugan
Ang daigdig na inaakalang kilalang-kilala
Bumibitiw sa tinanggap na katotohanan
Sinusulyapan ang lahat nang bago ang mata

Hindi lahat, nakasasama sa paglalakbay
Tanging iyon lamang pumipiling mag-iba

Literary: The Place I Dreamt

I dreamt of a place
Covered in neon and gold
The colors clashed,
But that’s not what I saw
Green frogs, pink hogs, a yellow giraffe
The most normal things turned into a wonderful show!

I dreamt of a place
Where the floor turned to lava
Then ice, then grass
Either way, my feet, it stung
And the weather bit my tongue
Cutting off my control

I dreamt of a place
Under the deep blue sea
My ears clogged to the brim
Your voice I could just hear
Telling me to come back
To the shore on the sunny beach

I dreamt of a place
While I was awake
Lying on my back
On my bed of pills
And then the dream came to an end

Literary: Sa Gitna ng Expressway

Sa gitna ng isang expressway,
sa isang linyang naghahati
sa mga sasakyang
pasulong at paurong,
sa isang gabing madilim
na may malamig na hangin,
maaari ba kitang makasayaw?

Pagmasdan mong nag-uunahan
ang mga kislap ng headlights
ng mga sasakyan.
At ang andar ng makina.
At ikot ng gulong.
Dumaraan.
Nilalagpasan tayo.
Isang karera ang buhay na ito.

May malalaking bus
na puno ng mga taong pilit
na idinidilat ang kanilang mga mata
matapos ang maghapong kayod.
Marahil makikipagsapalaran
o pauwi na sa pamilya.
Nakikipagsiksikan.
Binibigyang-lugar ang sarili.

Nariyan din naman ang malalaking trak
na may mabibigat at sari-saring nilalaman.
May softdrinks, yelo, gulay, at prutas.
Magkano?
Ano kaya ang halaga ng mga ito
pagdating sa pupuntahan?

May ilan din namang pribado ang sasakyan.
Simple at may pupuntahan.

Lumalagpas-nililipasan tayo.
Habang nakikipag-unahan,
masaya nga ba tayo?

Narito tayo sa linyang ito,
madilim man, malamlam ang liwanag

Huwag kang matakot
sa kanilang takbo.
Sumugal ka at pagmasdan
ang kagandahan ng langit,
ang simoy ng hangin,
ang pagkakataong
magkasama tayo
dito sa gitna ng expressway—
sa gitna ng karera ng buhay.
Maaari ba kitang makasayaw?

Literary: Abduction

I woke up with a sudden gasp of air, struggling to breath, as if I was being suffocated. My
head was aching because of a strange high-pitched noise coming from around the room. I tried to
get up, and with complete shock, I couldn’t move. All that I could see was a bright light coming from
the middle of the room. I tried to stay calm, but the feeling of lying on what seemed like cold steel is
very alarming.

I could feel my body shaking with fear, but before I completely panicked, I tried to remember
the things that happened before I came. Everything was blurry and unclear, but I could remember
that I was in my room at around 11:00 p.m., finishing an essay for my application to my dream
university. I heard random noises, which I chose to ignore because of the fact that we live near a
busy street. It was like any normal night, I studied, I ate, I got ready for bed and slept. So what was it
that was unusual? What happened? How did I end up here?

Aha! I think it was around 2:30 a.m. when I was awoken by a strange high-pitched noise
similar to the noise that I heard a while ago. At first, I thought it was just my alarm. But then, I saw
this bright light coming from our backyard. I got curious, and looked for my slippers to go out to
investigate. As soon as I got to the backyard, I saw an unknown spacecraft slowly opening its doors
and a shadow coming out of it. I could feel my heart pounding as it tried to scan the area. Without
noticing, I stepped on a dead branch and it made a loud noise. I saw it stopped what it was doing
and stared at my direction. I tried to quietly run away, but as soon as I turned my back, I felt a needle
stabbed into my neck and I collapsed.

After minutes of trying to figure things out, I heard a loud bang coming from the corner of the
back part of the room. My heart started to pound rapidly. There was someone walking around the
room. I tried to scream for help, but I just couldn’t get my mouth to open. I tried to move, but I
couldn’t; it was as if I was paralyzed. I could hear it mocking me, laughing at me. I heard its small
footsteps slowly coming towards me. I noticed my breathing go unsteady then suddenly, a shadow
covered the light in the middle of the room. The shadow was a creature wearing a mask and holding
a scalpel. It stayed there for seconds, and strangely, even with a mask on, you can still sense it
smiling at you.

Literary: Ang Hindi Pangkaraniwang Love Story

Tumitibok
Nagpapawis
Nanginginig
Nauutal

Nagmistulang estatwa, ngunit pinilit kong lumingon
"Naiwan mo," at saka inilahad ang pencil case ko
Nag-isip ako't humingang malalim bago sabihing "Teka! May sasabihin pa ako!"

Lumingon ka't lumapit muli at saka ako nagdalawang-isip
Nauutal, nauutal, gustong magsalita ngunit walang lumalabas
"I-I like you..."

"Sorry, may mahal akong iba."

Paggising ko nang umaga, napatingin sa kalendaryo
Kinilig nang kaunti, ikalabing-apat ng Pebrero!
Napawi ang ngiti sapagkat naalala
Ay, single pala ako.

Literary: A Shooting Star

It was a lovely night of November
with a sky of the perfect hue.
We laid on evening dew together,
As we stared into the vast endlessness.

Out of nowhere, passed by a bright light
its glow ever so ethereal.
Silence fell upon us at the sight
and the moment was prolonged unexplainably.

I was not so sure if it was true,
if the light was just a speck of dust.
But the moment I glanced over at you,
your eyes immediately revealed the answer.

They shut tight and I watched in awe
as your lips, in a smile, created a song.
A wish kept closely, its ends I saw
which you neatly tied in a ribbon.

I was then greeted by the brightest stars,
Two of which shone even more than the moon.
An eternity must have passed, perhaps a few hours,
I was serenaded by the silence.

And maybe I shouldn't have blinked then
because I sighed once in content
and all at once, all of a sudden,
you were gone, just like the star.
