Iba’t ibang aktibidad, itinampok sa Math Week 2015

Matagumpay na naisagawa ng Math Club 3-10 ang taunang UPIS Math Week Celebration na ginanap noong Marso 10-13, 2015 na may temang: “UPIS Iskolar: Mathapang, Mathalino.”

Ilan sa mga inihandang gawain ng Math Club 3-10 ang “π” Cupcake Sale, Rubik’s Cube Challenge, Quiz Bee (high school), (Pre) π Day Sale, at DALUBBILANG (Quiz Bee), Math Olympics (Amazing Race) at Sudoku Challenge naman para sa 3-6.

Sa high school Math Quiz Bee, nanalo sina Aldrin Aujero (7- Mars), Dex Daguman (8-Butterfly), Adrian Bornilla (9- Silver), at Maryrose Sanchez (10- Lauan) na nakakuha ng 43 puntos. Sumunod sina Sean Gelera (7- Venus), Bianca Morales (8- Butterfly), Denice Palicte (9- Silver), at Earl Briones (10-Acacia) na nakakuha naman ng 29 puntos. Nakuha naman nina Bryant Galicia (7- Saturn), Michael Tee (8- Dragonfly), Rene Rollon (9- Iron), at Reinon Salvador (10- Molave) ang ikatlong gantimpala na may 26 puntos.

Sa 7-10 Rubik’s Cube Challenge, nakamit naman ni Owen Bernos (7- Mars) ang unang gantimpala sa pagbuo ng Rubik’s cube sa loob ng 00:33:40 segundo. Pumangalawa naman si Dex Daguman (8- Butterfly) na may oras na 00:40:43 segundo at si Greg Octa (10- Acacia) naman ang nagkamit ng ikatlong gantimpala na may oras na 00:60:15 segundo.

Sa DALUBBILANG, nanalo sina Andrei Nicolas Pablico (3- Batis), Logan Isabel Sampang (4- Labanos), Carl Marquez (5- Arayat) at Patricia Faith Capito (6- Jade) na nakakuha ng 30 puntos. Pumangalawa sina Jason Javier Amor (3- Ilog), Erielle Martha Anica Arceo (4- Singkamas), Anne Marel Macapanpan (5- Banahaw), at Marius Ulyzses Barcenas (6- Jade) na nakakuha ng 23 puntos. Nakuha naman nina Kirsten Chantal dela Cruz (3- Ilog), Johan Samuel Danque (4- Malunggay), Paolo Doronila (5- Cordillera) at Gabrielle Elise Cabalu (6- Topaz) ang ikatlong gantimpala sa 21 puntos.

Nanalo rin sina Janwin Myl Pantoja (3- Dagat), Pio Rafael Oyzon (4- Malunggay), Chester Joseph Madelo (5- Banahaw), at Jan Jason Gonzales (6- Topaz) sa 3-6 Rubik’s Cube Challenge.

Nauwi naman ni Sofia Javier (3- Ilog), Samanta Arinto (4- Labanos), Emmuel Joseph Cruz (5- Banahaw), at Katrina Tee (6- Topaz) ang kampyunato sa Grade Level Sudoku Challenge.

Naging kampeon naman sina Doreen Bergado (3- Ilog), Christian Babaran (4- Singkamas), Cynarina Licuanan (5- Banahaw), at Marius Ulyzses Barcenas (6- Jade) sa Math Olympics 3-6. / ni Camille Lita

UPIS celebrates Math Week

UPIS students participated in different activities as part of the school's celebration of Math Appreciation Week. These activities aimed to increase students' math skills and to encourage appreciation for math.

The events consisted of a grade level quiz bee, amazing race, an artwork exhibit, and "guess the number of candies in a container" game.

For the amazing race, the team of Phil Brian Cosep (7-Jupiter), Hillary Fajutagana (8-Firefly), Matthew Palabrica (9-Platinum), and Bertram Matabang (10-Yakal) which finished the fastest in each station were declared the winners.

Craig Alexander Aquino and Marlon Nahial of 7-Neptune, Alliah Denise Bron and Claire Anne Mapa of 8-Ladybug, Alyssa Pabiona and Quiela Mae Salazar of 9-Sodium, and Rafael Luis Flores and Luis Fernando Raynon of 10-Yakal were the winners of the quiz bee. / by Dianne Saunders and Vinz Villanueva

Gelera brings home Math Wiz title

Christian Philip Gelera of 6-Garnet was crowned the 2012 Little Math Wizard during the 3rd Region-wide Search for the Little Math Wizard held at the UP Math Building last September 15.

Gelera bested all his competitors in the four-round competition, making him the over-all champion.

Nathan Arthur Banatao, Zeidrich Monares, John Henry Marquez, Sean Albert Gelera and Jastin Cedric Cruz also joined the grade 5 level but only Banatao, Monares and Marquez qualified for the semi-final round.

Banatao, Marquez win in Singapore math competition

Nathan Arthur Banatao and John Henry Marquez from grade 5-Arayat won gold and silver medals, respectively, in the 8th International Mathematics Contest held in Singapore last August 4.

They trained with the Mathematics Trainers Guild in preparation for the competition and competed against foreign students, all of whom are in their age group.

Gelera bags bronze in Taiwan math tilt

Christian Gelera from 6-Garnet won a bronze medal in the individual category of the Annual Taiwan Elementary International Math Contest 2012 held at the Affiliated Seniors High School in Taipei, Taiwan last July 25.

The Philippines sent twelve representatives in the contest. To qualify, Gelera had to join a competition against different schools in the Philippines. He and the other chosen participants attended a summer camp and continued to train until June.

Gelera and the Philippine team, which ranked first runner-up in the group category, competed against 31 other teams from different countries all over Asia.
