Literary: I Am Not Dead

I am not dead
Merely subdued
To a state of reality
Far from all of you

I am not dead
Maybe only dimmed
To a somber place
where I continue to live.

And here, I am not dead.
I will continue to thrive.
Only possibly softened
But definitely alive.

I patiently wait
For storms to come through
For fire to burn out
For the world to turn anew.

But for now, I am not dead.
Not dead yet.
Wait for me all,
my return has been set.

Literary: Nasaan Kayo

3
Nanay, Tatay
Bakit kayo nag-aaway
Tayo na’t maghabulan sa parke
Isa sa inyo ang aking kakampi

Nanay, Tatay
Bakit iba na ang inyong mga ngiti
Napapagod na ba kayo
Nais niyo na bang tumakbo?

Nanay, Tatay
Bakit kayo nag-aaway
Mawawalan na ba ako ng kalaro
Dahil nais niyo nang tumakbo?

10
Nanay, Tatay
Simula pa lang ng araw
Mga bangayan sa gabi'y ngayon normal
Puyat na lagi dahil sa ingay at pag-aaral

Nanay, Tatay
Sa paaralan na ako araw-araw
Nagkukwentuhan ang mga iba
Bakit sa kanilang magulang sila'y masaya?

Nanay, Tatay
Patapos na ng araw
Bakit kayo’y nag-aaway pa rin ng ganito?
Puro sampalan, sakitan at sisihan.

18
Nanay, wala si Tatay
Naiintindihan ko na ang lahat
Pero sana'y hindi ako nakialam
Ilang taon na siyang umalis na walang paalam.

Tatay, paano na si Nanay?
Sana’y hindi ko na lang inalam
Para hindi na nagdurusa ang aking pakiramdam
At ninanais na maglaho sa kawalan

Nanay, Tatay
Matatapos na ang aking oras sa paaralan
Ngunit hindi ko pa rin alam ang aking kalalagyan
Nasaan kayo ngayon kayo’y aking kinakailangan

37
Nanay, Tatay
Bumalik na ako sa inyo
Matagal na't muntik kong makalimutan
Mga pinagdaanan ko sa aking kabataan

Nanay, Tatay
Nandito na ako
Gusto ko lang na inyong pansinin.
Katulad ng mga ibang bata, inyong mahalin.

Nanay, Tatay
Nakaya ko ang mga hirap mula sa nakalipas na mga panahon
Mga gabing malamig at malungkot
Upang makasama muli kayo nang walang poot

Literary: Game Strats

The vigorous sounds of a keyboard clacking and a mouse clicking can be heard from the room.

“Stop stealing my kills!” Luna adjusts her mic then focuses her attention to the screen, watching over her character’s surroundings.

“Well, stop being such a loot goblin. I’m out of healing,” a voice comes from her headphones. Another character joins running next to hers, trying to spot any other movement from enemies in the far distance. The game featured different kinds of environments, from abandoned cities to snowy and icy peaks to miles upon miles of fields. Right now, Luna and Morgan traveled into a wide passage through the mountains.

“I’m sorry that you’re just too slow to get the good stuff, Morgan.”
“I’m sorry that you’re too slow to press mouse one on the same spot of the screen.”

They continue on to the opening of the passage, and spot enemies in the fields nearby.

“Stop getting in front of me, I’m trying to aim.” Luna tries to move to the side, her scopes trying to hone in on the moving targets.

“From here? No way. I’m gonna go ahead.” She watches Morgan’s character move forward, getting ready to push.

She observes the enemies highlighted in red, hoping they don’t see her teammate creeping closer to them. It was a whole squad with three members. She makes a quick mental decision over the numbers disadvantage, but it was already too late. She decides to fire off an attack, and then another, and then another. Her attacks show that they have full gold armor.

'Oh, shoot.'

She is immediately under fire and takes cover.

She tries to fire off more shots, but she gets hit as soon as she comes up. "I can't get a shot! What the hell are these guys carrying?" She takes the moment to heal, avoiding all the offense coming her way.

“I’m attacking, get ready.” Morgan announces, before firing off from a position to the enemies’ side. Luna takes the chance to attack, taking advantage of the distraction. Her character swings in, immediately firing off bullets to their attackers. As they attack, they shatter their enemies' armor and the squad tries to fall back to heal. Morgan keeps them in the crosshair in the middle of the screen, not letting them rest and continuing to push.

Luna catches one of them trying to recharge their armor behind a loot bin and knocks them down. Morgan finishes off the other two, a notification popping up both their screens that confirms their earned elimination kills. It wasn’t until then that they both take a breath.

“Flanking strat. Simple, but effective.” Morgan’s voice pipes up. They both look at their health bars and armor charges, and start to heal up. "Numbers-wise though, that was risky."

“Yeah well, I’m only glad I got to actually have one kill.” Luna starts looting again. She hears Morgan laugh.

“Just give me some healing please, I’m close to dying.” She sees Morgan’s character crouch down and up repeatedly. “Please.”

She tosses over a medical kit to Morgan, and her partner immediately takes it. "Let's just go before another squad attacks."

Literary: This Line Is Too Long

It starts with a stand,
It winds down the aisle.
You pull out your phone
Fiddle with it for a while.

Shift your weight to one side,
The left and the right.
At times going forward,
Less often than you’d like.

Look at those in front,
Glance at the ones behind.
They reflect the impatience
Lack of peace of mind.

You stay standing,
The way you’ve had.
This line is too long,
An eternity has passed.

Literary: Love?

Love, why is my heart so heavy?
It fills to the top, reaches my head
Then comes down to acid and dread.

Love, why do my feet feel flight?
Weightless in a floating state
Stateless with nothing to wait.

Love, do you still feel me?
The ghost of skin in fingertips
The reach of what reality grips.

Love, are we alright?
I dream about old mornings
Presently foreboding.

Love, what do you see?
The world’s humour is clever
When you found someone better.

Love, is this our last night?
The dark sky is closing in on me,
I’m stuck in branches of toxic trees.

Love, help me out here. Please?

Literary: Contentment

She seemed to glide into the cosmos in
The light of the sunset skies she sets
A flame in where my heart has been.
A source of warmth it has met
Wherein her gaze has held my breath
The tower in my mind collapses and lands
My pulse sounds out indefinite demands
In longing for her, for life, for death.

She seemed to glide into the cosmos in
The light of the sunset skies she sets
A calming in the storms within.
My insides have been reset.
Wherein all our lives with bated breath
We’ve waited for the world to stop its commands.
Holding each other in our hearts and hands,
We can finally be content.

Literary: Your Time

I knock on your front door again.
Am I ruining your nights?
The morning’s dark, the moon’s too far,
Can I stand in your light for longer time?

My lips are turning blue, shivers up and down.
My breath’s mist goes out, and turns into ice.
I hold myself up tighter, try to feel my bones.
The walk here wasn’t any trouble, I suppose.
The door closes behind us, closing the world out.
Distant fire shadows the room, the energy warm.
The chair’s out and the clock’s ticks warped,
Have you been waiting around?

I’ve been needing someone like you,
All of my life.
Can I just ask for more time?

Literary: Violet.

She’s soft to the touch,
made of silk and warmth.
She’s the embodiment
Of calm serenity
And bright conflict.
Harmony of colors
of pain and sadness,
of sun and rain.
Wishing both red and blue would stay.
She’s both peace and war.
She's the combination of opposites
of hot and cold
of ice and fire
of passion and logic.

She’s the color violet,
that’s deep in her veins.

Literary: Lighter than Air

The travel isn’t the most immediate option,
Could’ve bought train tickets or passports.
This hot air balloon goes slow and up,
Steadily rising into the skies.

The take-off is surreal, as we float up
Weightless and with no direction.
Everything is serene and calming.
The gentle wind guides us to wherever.

Thousands of feet in the air, I look over the edge
“The people look like ants, the cars look like toys.”
You call me childish again, and I remind you
We’re both in a basket, carried by a balloon.

Seeing far and wide, the world looks bigger,
The outlines of the cities and the tall trees.
Our hands connect as it’s now clear to see
Our problems now seem like the smallest things.

Literary: Deaf to the World

The world keeps overwhelming me,
With all these people everywhere.
They keep loudly talking and telling
And yelling and shouting and shrieking.

There are rare times they listen,
But they mostly just talk and talk –
their days and their dead end jobs,
Their dreams and their unreachable wants.

They keep using their own voices
Like they don’t hear themselves.
They use it often, as frequently as much
As they breathe their air into their lungs.

I cover my ears, and I try to hide.
I have decided, yes, only now.
I choose not to listen, listen to no one.
I’d rather hear your voice, and yours alone.

Literary: Vertigo

Fear and love is all I’ve ever known.
I’ve always been the one to reap what I’ve sown.
Blows to my head if I go the wrong way,
Do you still care or are you staying just to stay?

I still see the fire burn behind your eyes,
Do you feel better now that you’ve put out mine?
Manipulation tactics, murder in the third degree
You told me I’m still yours, then you threatened me.

I miss the times when you were gentle and kind
I hate this persona that you now hide behind.
Can I see the person you were once before?
Will you stay or do you not care anymore?

I jump over landmines, tripwires, and traps,
Hide my heart ‘till the time it might collapse.
You only attack, I only dodge what you throw,
When you show your love, I’m lost in vertigo.

Literary (Submission): A Confession

I was in love with you
Far before I was willing to admit it.

My memories were blurred,
With our voices muffled and distant
and everything around us was hazy.

But I remember the look in your eyes
The way you laughed and smiled.
That was the moment I fell in love.

It was probably just a regular conversation
That we were having one day.
My heart just decided to implode right then.

All I know was
I would’ve given everything in this world
Just to stay right there with you.

The conversation continued like nothing happened.
Just like I didn’t have the most life-changing realization ever.

It wasn’t like in the films.
There was no grand speech,
There was no big plan to ask you out.

We continued on,
Just as if I didn’t find the one.
