Literary (Submission): Casi-Oh no

The slot machine dings,
As the levers go down.
Don’t look away from the lights.
Don’t look at the men in suits in the eye.

Chips go to the center,
Cards close to the chest.
Don’t take notice when they pass by.
Don’t look at the men in suits in the eye.

Bets are all taken in,
The reds and blacks spin.
The roulettes aim to hypnotize.
Don’t look at the men in suits in the eye.

There are no clocks,
There’s no passage of time.
It’s only felt like hours
When it’s already been a month.

They pull you aside,
These men in black suits call you
You’ve owed them too much,
That it cost you an eye.

Literary (Submission): The Routes

Someone asked me a question,
About how I should look at things.
There are two paths, one long, one short,
To sate your exceptional yearnings.

The long path takes a long while,
Winding up and down astounding sights.
Sights so beautiful no one can express
The words that can do them right.

The short path is straight-forward,
It was made for practical practices.
There’s not much to see, why bother?
A path not needing any more analysis.

The question made my mind work.
I was stuck deep in deep thought,
Two options, one or the other?
Which I should take and which I should not.

I think it over, and I smile.
I ask, “Well, where do they lead?”

Literary (Submission): Are You There?

This is me from
the other side of the line.
The dial tone sounds as I
Dial your number right.

The ringing begins and stops,
You answer and then hang up.
This is me from
the other side of the letter.
My writing pen sounds as I
wonder about truth and lies.

The pen begins and stops,
Your name, and then tears come out.

This is me from
the other side of the door.
My knocking sounds as I
ask if you’re alright.

The door swings open and
after a pause, a look,
and then slams shut.

I’ll take that as a ‘no’.

Literary (Submission): Vividness.

Things are different now.
More life-giving since you came in.
Vibrancy surrounds us both.

The color of your eyes,
And the way you hold your gaze
And look deep into the insides of my heart.

The tint of your lips,
And the way you smile at the things
I always do but only you notice.

The light that shines
and makes you look more angelic
more surreal than you already do.

The grass that seems greener,
The twilights that look truer,
It’s you, and all the colors that become brighter with you.

Now I sink
into the spectra of falling in love.
