Literary: The Little Floret

A dainty, little flower stands in the middle of the field.

A tad bit quiet yet she glows from afar.

With the wind, she sways and she bends and she shakes.

Day by day, she lives in oblivion,

For unbeknownst to the little blossom, several spectate her beauty from afar,

As with the wind, she sways and she bends and she shakes.

Although she is beautiful and beloved by many,

she is but an ephemeral plant, and gets worn out

as with the wind, she sways and she bends and she shakes,

One sunny day, like any other

All of her beauty and her grace finally wither away,

As for the last time, she sways and she bends and she shakes.

Her once precious petals, her leaves and her stem,

Slowly decay on the ground she used to stand upon,

And serve as remnants and echoes of her former beauty.

With the passing of time, the memory of her slowly starts to fade

From the hearts and the minds of her former admirers,

Reduced to but a distant dream, a fervent longing they once had.

But one sunny day, unlike any other,

In the patch of land where she used to be,

A wonderful sight had materialized into being.

A tiny bud, one that in color, in beauty, and in elegance,

Is strongly reminiscent of the beloved, dainty flower,

Can now be seen in the middle of the field.

And as we all know, the little floret, as youthful as can be,

Will then be loved and adored as the flower before her,

As with the wind, she’ll sway and she’ll bend and she’ll shake.

Literary: I’ll Never Say Goodbye

Now, the end is near
Day by day, it comes closer
Closer.

  I. Denial

Closer,
can we become closer?
Can our loose threads still be knit together?
We still have time.
We can make time.
We can still make a change.
Leave our mark.
Make a name for us in this place.
Together, we’ll pour
our souls into our work.
We’ll put all emotions,
the deepest of fears,
and the vaguest of thoughts
into words
to share with the rest of the world.

   II. Sadness

The tears flow
Almost as easily as words do,
If not more
I knew the day would come
That
This page
Would have
To turn
Each memory pulls at a heartstring
Tearing me apart
Like I, myself, am a page of a book
It's terrible to think
That this very feeling
Is what used to drive
My pen onto paper

   III. Anger

And in my desperation
To combat the hands of time
I fall
Into the arms of anger
I never thought I would.
The very words
I wrote
Out of love,
Full of love,
Seem to mock me
As the world seems to
Spite
My very being
The cruelty
Of having to go
Of having to grow

   IV. Longing

As each day passes,
and it becomes more apparent
that I will have to go soon
I learn to yearn and to pine
for things we’re used to doing
To struggle and to toil,
to write and to wait,
and to write even more.

My hands ache,
craving for the familiarity of a pen,
or some keys to type upon.
My eyes await the moment
that they’ll lay upon words
which I carefully crafted together,
a moment which will soon be followed by a quick second or two of my eyes
lighting up,
in joy and in pride
of the work I’ve done.

   V. Final Goodbye

MC.
We will
forever be grateful
for the time you let us be your voice.
With your guiding light,
we learnt so many lessons.
Shaping us,
molding us,
helping us to grow into
better versions of ourselves.
Our journey was far from easy
With sleepless nights and heavy workloads,
you pushed us to our extremes.
Still, together we took flight.
You showed us a spectrum
And how to use each and every color
It has been so surreal
Waking up to such a paradise
In Room 115.

You taught us all to ask questions,
And to seek for the truth,
And nothing but the truth.
You comforted us with the warmth
Of the rays of your sun
What a bright sun it is.
In my memory
In my heart
We live through infinity
It is us versus the world.
You and me, MC
I shall never say
A true goodbye

Literary: Night Before The Moon Landing

Crisp.
The leaves on the ground I lay upon
Vast.
The night sky I look up to

Exhausted, I am.
Sleepy,
very much so.
Still, I try to force my arm up against gravity.
I hold it up quite lazily in the sky.
A little fun activity,
albeit a bit ridiculous,
that I’ve done since I was a child.

It wobbles.
Moves.
On its own, my hand goes in circles in the sky.
From circles, small and silent
to circles, big and violent.

In my supiness, I let it.
I let it control me.
Move me.

This way,
I was one with the Earth.
I was under its control,
its natural forces,
with each and every rotation,
that we both make.

Round and round,
it went about.
Circles upon circles.
My hand getting tired,
lowering after every rotation.

Then suddenly, it stopped.
I had finally taken over my arm once again.
Full control.

I held it up, high and proud.
Then, I curled my fingers
and pointed mightily.
At the moon, of course.
At the moon.

I smile.
A triumphant smile.
“This time tomorrow,” I whisper to myself, “I’ll already be on my way there.”

My hand,
in the sky,
unwavering still.

Conquered the forces by which it is bound.
Today, my hand.
Tomorrow, each and every part of me.

Literary: Incoming Transmissions of a Ship-wrecked Spaceship

With the recent developments in light speed travel, new distances of travel have been made possible.

The Schedar Sector in the constellation of Cassiopeia is now determinably accessible by human technology.

The following are excerpts of the transcriptions of incoming transmissions from the recently recovered spaceship Kismet. Kismet encountered a routing error and got ship-wrecked in the Schedar Sector.

It took 139 years before it was retrieved.

LOG 1585: Captain Phoenix? This is Ground Control. Have you reached the Lighthouse Station? Please respond.

LOG 1590: Ground Control to Kismet. You are off the radar. Return back to your route.

LOG 1768: Hello? Joaquin? It’s Ripley. Please. Are you hearing me from out there? Are you still you? Or have you started to rupture in your slumber? *sighs* A search party is on its way. Please wait for us.

LOG 1788: What would it take to make you mine again? How long would it take to breathe you back to life? Hold on, Joaquin. Stay still. You know there is no universe vast enough and no century nor millennium long enough for a soul longing for its home.

LOG 2031: Day 7000. I’m sorry we’re taking too long. But don’t worry. We won’t stop. I won’t stop. Until I find you.

*long pause*

I’d wait an eternity, from this infinity to the next, just to find you again.

*long pause*

I hope you would too.

Literary: Homing Signal

10 PM, inside my cozy albeit small apartment.

It was supposed to be a chill night - just me watching documentaries and eating Chinese take-outs.

Suddenly, a loud, ringing sound echoed through the room.

I opened the door, half-confused and half-pissed that I had to pause what I was watching. But the sound was really loud. Maybe it’s a fire alarm.

I walked out and as I did, the sound continued to echo throughout the halls, and I dare say, the whole building.

Everyone else was running out, so I ran too. There’s just something about the frenzy and the sense of urgency from all the running strangers that makes you want to run. Fast.

I ran and ran, until I was away from the building.

But the sound didn’t stop, neither did my running.

I reached a nearby empty field, hoping for some peace and quiet.

It wasn’t quite quiet though. In fact, it wasn’t quiet at all.

The sound was now roaring through the empty field. Under the night sky, I started to pant and to ponder what the sound was for. What the sound was from.

I looked at my feet and kicked the grass, then suddenly, light. A single yet massive ray of light slowly started to illuminate the field from above.

I tried to look up, to figure out where the light is coming from, but the light only blinded me.

But as the light started to go stronger and nearer, the sound started to go louder and louder and more rapid. And then when it was above me, the sound stopped altogether.

And that’s when it hit me.

It’s them.

They came back for me.

I’m coming home.

Literary: Gift from God

Years came and went,
Yet I am still here.

Waiting…
Waiting.

From dusk ‘til dawn,
I toiled in anticipation.

Hoping…
Hoping.

Perfectly designing,
Crafting my own paradise.

Plotting…
Plotting.

Still the paradise I build
Is never quite right.

The skies are still gray.
Deafening silence at night

On my bed, all alone,
I stare blankly in distress.

Wondering…
Wondering.

And then it hits–
No matter how much I try,
Or how much I weep,
I can never create a perfect paradise.

For a paradise cannot be built,
Nor can it be forced.
A paradise is a gift from God
And it can only ever be found.

Literary (Submission): Not a Poem

This is not a poem.
This is not a song.
What then, you may ask, is this?

This is but a string of words
Almost tediously, crassly, hastily, soppily
Put together in an attempt to please you.

Dearest reader,
Beloved creature,
In your hands lie the power of dictating what I am.

Am I a poem? Am I a song?
Or just a sad attempt on both?
Only you could ever tell.

Literary: Free, at Last

Wind,
Moving faster and faster.

Ground,
Further and further away.

Your past,
All behind you.

Fading, fading, ever so slowly.

Free, at last, from the binds of the earth.
Me, at last.

With and of the skies.

Literary: How Daft

I was told I was too quiet, too different.

So I talked louder,

Laughed more,

Made sure to be heard.

Then suddenly I was too loud.

Too much.

“Where’s your poise?”

“You’re a lady, act like one.”

So I tried to be soft, returned to my roots.

Made myself gentler, kept my mouth shut.

But still, they weren’t satisfied.

“Impressionable”, they said of me.

So I closed down.

Turned hard like stone.

Colder than ice.

Eyes ever distant,

But ears listening all the while.

Always too much or too little,

In their eyes and in their ears

So I tried to take control

Of who I was and who I’d be

Of how I’d look and how I’d speak

Now I understand

how rather daft it was

Silly, even

To muffle my own voice

Just to listen to their hushed murmurs

And unsure whispers.

Literary: What is it?

What?
What is it with you?
What’s wrong with you?

I look back at everything you’ve said:
Every single word that punched a hole through me,
Every single promise that sounded so hollow,
Every slip of the tongue that revealed your true nature.

I look back at everything you’ve done:
How you never stay true to your word,
How you get distracted so easily,
How insensitive you can be.

You do these still.
You never stopped.

After everything I’ve said,
Everything I’ve ever done,
Everything I’ve given up,
I guess I’m still not enough.

I guess I’ll never be enough,
For you at least.

I guess I should have known.
I guess I knew all along.

And so, I realize
Who I really should be blaming for my misfortunes.

It is I.

Tell me.
What is it with me?
What is wrong with me?

Literary (Submission): Tough Love

I had waited one whole year
For just one day that I might feel different
Just one day that I’d get to satisfy my craving
Just enough to last another year without it

And now you’re here
Down on both knees
Ready to give me all the love in the world
Ready to be just what I need

Oh! How the tables have turned
With you looking so helpless in front of me
The same way I feel every single day
When you’re with me, or at least you claim to be

With all the presents you brought today
Still, you ask what I want and need
It feels strange to finally hear you sound so caring
Maybe you should try to do that more often

You then cling to me as if I am something so precious
Beg for me like you’d die without me
But I know this act of yours wouldn’t last long
And I know exactly just how this would end

As you profess your love and admiration,
I’d eat up every word you say
The same words I’ll replay in my head every single day
To make up for the next 364 days full of emptiness

And, like clockwork, with the warmth of our love today,
I’d forgive the coldness of our yesterdays and our tomorrows
And I’d pretend I believe you when you say you love me
My lover, oh so loveless
