10 PM, inside my cozy albeit small apartment.
It was supposed to be a chill night - just me watching documentaries and eating Chinese take-outs.
Suddenly, a loud, ringing sound echoed through the room.
I opened the door, half-confused and half-pissed that I had to pause what I was watching. But the sound was really loud. Maybe it’s a fire alarm.
I walked out and as I did, the sound continued to echo throughout the halls, and I dare say, the whole building.
Everyone else was running out, so I ran too. There’s just something about the frenzy and the sense of urgency from all the running strangers that makes you want to run. Fast.
I ran and ran, until I was away from the building.
But the sound didn’t stop, neither did my running.
I reached a nearby empty field, hoping for some peace and quiet.
It wasn’t quite quiet though. In fact, it wasn’t quiet at all.
The sound was now roaring through the empty field. Under the night sky, I started to pant and to ponder what the sound was for. What the sound was from.
I looked at my feet and kicked the grass, then suddenly, light. A single yet massive ray of light slowly started to illuminate the field from above.
I tried to look up, to figure out where the light is coming from, but the light only blinded me.
But as the light started to go stronger and nearer, the sound started to go louder and louder and more rapid. And then when it was above me, the sound stopped altogether.
And that’s when it hit me.
It’s them.
They came back for me.
I’m coming home.
