UPIS 3 - 6 students, teachers, and parents participated in their annual field trip with the theme “Agrikultura” last March 22.
The field trip aimed to expose students to agriculture in the Philippines by visiting farms. Its itinerary included Adventure Farm in Timberland Heights, San Mateo and Sweet Field Trip (SFT) Educational Hub in Tanchoco Avenue, Taytay. During the trip, The students were divided into two groups: Grades 3 & 4 and Grades 5 & 6.
In Adventure Farm, the students fed and took care of farm animals. They were also taught how to garden local herbs. In SFT Educational Hub, on the other hand, they made handicrafts made from wood, clay, metal, plants, and other recyclable materials.
According to Jai Diesta (6 - Jade), “Masaya po ‘yung field trip…[ito ay] para matutunan pa daw po namin ang kulturang Pilipino.” Himaya Coquilla (4-Singkamas) also added, “[Natutunan namin] paano nila pinapakain ‘yung mga hayop doon, kung paano nila inaalagaan. At kung paano gumawa ng halaman.”
Ms. Christine Prieto expressed the importance of the field trip to the students, “Hindi lang pansaya ang mga ganitong lakbay-aral… naging oportunidad ito para ma-expose ang mga bata sa mga gawain sa labas ng siyudad.”
The students were told to answer a worksheet about what they learned from agriculture after the field trip. //by Angelia Albao and James Tolosa
