Predators and Competition
Cyrille Villanueva

You are a saber
That hunts down the weak
And kills anyone who opposes you

I am a wolf
That hunts down the weak
And the one who defeats
The likes of you

We are a rule of nature and life
We are just fragments
Of the cycle and we are unstoppable

Rainbow
Eddie

Thou art the sun
That warms earth’s arables
And makes ye grass greener

I am ye rain
That pours upon plains
And quencher ye thirst of mundanes

We are ye rainbow
An elusive sign of hope
The dawn of a new beginning

Water
Francis Eloriaga

You are the oncoming storm
That men dread and fear
And you bring nothing but pain and sorrow

I am the sea
That is unpredictable and unrelenting
And I help people with living

We are water, ever flowing and unpredictable
We bring darkness and hope
But we are unforgiving

I’m still alive but I’m barely breathing. I am in misery, there ain’t nobody who can comfort me. But darling you are the only exception. I never saw you coming, and I’ll never be the same.

14 months and 7 days ago…

I thought some time was what we really needed. Nobody said it was easy, it’s such a shame for us to part. I let it go and now I know, a brand new life is down this road. I met someone and thought she could replace you. But baby, there you go again, making me love you. (Only know you love her when you let her go.)

Love is a ruthless game when you play it good and right. I’m sorry I can’t be perfect, I’m sorry that I couldn’t get to you. It’s not always rainbows and butterflies, I’ll be better when I’m older. I’m only human and I bleed when I fall down.

I wanna hide the truth, I wanna shelter you, but with the beast inside there’s nowhere we can hide. Don’t get too close, it’s dark inside, it’s where demons hide. I’m afraid of what you’ll see right now. Everybody’s got a dark side. Can you love me? Will you love mine?

Look at the stars, look how they shine for you. If only you saw what I could see, you’d understand why I want you so desperately, cause you’re amazing just the way you are. When you smile, the whole world stops and stares for a while. I want to make you feel beautiful. You’re my downfall, you’re my muse, my worst distraction, my rhythm and blues, and I’m out of my league once again. This love has taken its toll on me.

But I would catch a grenade for you. I will never let you fall, I’ll stand up with you forever. (I could make you happy, make your dreams come true.) No there’s nothing I wouldn’t do to make you feel my love.

Mga pasimpleng tingin
Mga silip na may patagong hangarin
Mga biglang ngiting walang dahilan
Madalas na nagaganap dahil kanino’t saan?

Hayan na, papalapit na,
Nariyan na ang target!
Kaya all the chikas naghahanda na,
Para mapansin at dumamubs nang bongga.

“HAHAHAHA” malakas nilang tawa
Anong meron? Anong nakakatawa?
Isa ba ‘to sa mga taktika nila?
Para mapansin ng crush niya?

4th floor, wala silang klase
Pero sige lang sa ariba-
Lakad, ikot, balik,
Walang sawa tuhod may malipit sa sakit.

“WAHAHAHA...” nakakatawa sila.
Para silang si Sisa.
Damubs mo’y paso’t luma na.
Makuhang atensyon niya’y lumabo pa.

Inday, Inday, at sa marami pang Inday
Lumilitaw inyong angking galing,
Mahusay kayong mag-isip ng paraan,
Kaysa sumagot ng problem solving sa math,
Kapag si crush ay paparating.

Feature: Love Pa Ba?

9/25/2014 07:52:00 PM Media Center 1 Comments

Ginusto kong maging atleta, o magkunwari na may sense of humor ako….

Bata pa ako, at masaya ako.

Feature: TriNorma sa Elem, Now Open

9/25/2014 07:46:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

Opinion: Non-Fictional Fiction

9/25/2014 07:38:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

Once upon a time, there was this social outcast. Their family’s a mess, what with all the fighting and potential financial problems. One day, some exceptionally charming person randomly, “unexpectedly” falls in love with the outcast. Then comes the lovey-dovey moments—smooth moves and corny pick-up jokes, flowers, chocolates, hugs and kisses, all the mushy little stuff that’s as cute as kittens and as beautiful as an old couple in the park. They were totally meant to be together. The high school sweethearts, the starcrossed lovers, everyone’s OTP, Romeo and Juliet, defying all odds, just them against the world.

But then one of them had… a change of heart.

The other one sank into a world of depression, low grades, drugs, violence—the works.

But wait, there’s more!

The one who left dies of regret and loneliness, of a tragic accident while they were reflecting on life.

The End

-----

Sounds familiar? A few details may have been messed up or tweaked or the author has probably gone overboard with the story (that ending!) but you get the gist.

Today’s stories kind of revolve on the dramas and angst of teenage life. Guy meets girl or vice versa. Then usually something (or someone) comes up and then poof, sad times. Happy endings are dwindling, both in quantity and happiness. And don’t even start on the unrequited love sob stories. Sure there are those sci-fi stories or ones about fighting to death but characters usually fight for someone, still. We say the whole tragic/cute story is clichéd but there’s a reason behind it.

Stories are inspired by real life. That’s both a good thing and bad thing. Happy stories, friendship stories (read: friendship, the platonic good kind, not friendzone), and cute little short stories (fluff) give us hope and restore our faith in humanity. There are sad stories that make people cry. So much.

“All huddled up in the corner. How dare he?! How could she?! That double crossing *insert swear word here*”

And, no, it’s not all about love.

Drugs, violence, and other adult stuff are a thing now. Like it’s trending or something. And that, dear reader, is sad. Literature sometimes tends to romanticize or justify things.

“That girl in that book is cutting, just like me! I want to go hang myself like he did!”

But even if you can relate a lot or a bit, there are some things which should not be done. Ever.

Stories and words hold power and, as we all know, with great power comes great responsibility. This responsibility belongs to both writers and readers. Just as writers have to be careful of what they write, readers can’t just believe everything they read.

The world can be a better place (no sarcasm here)--a place with less drama and hurt and complicated things, a place with actual, legit happy endings. People just have to open their eyes and listen, too. / by Kathlyn Hebron

SoA 2019 hosts Acque: Around the World

9/25/2014 07:31:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

The annual Acquaintance Party (Acque) for Grade 7 and 8 students was held at the UPIS 3-6 Bulwagan last Monday, September 22, 2014. Batches 2019 and 2020 celebrated the event with this year’s chosen theme: “Around The World”.

One of the main highlights of the event was a group game. The goal of the game was to finish assigned tasks in 6 stations that resemble various parts of the world such as Africa, Mexico, Japan, Antarctica, Hawaii, and France.

There were also special performances from select students, a social dance segment, and a raffle.

The Acque is an annual event was facilitated by the Sophomore Association to welcome the freshmen and to establish camaraderie between the two batches.

According to Ron Castro, president of the Sophomore Association, the whole planning experience was hard and really required a lot from them, but in the end it was all worth-it.

It was originally scheduled on September 15 but was postponed when classes were suspended due to Typhoon Luis. / by Jesica Caneca with reports from Travis Argayosa and Jediael Neri

Literary (Submission): I Promise

9/22/2014 08:23:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

NOTE: The poems in this series were written in English class by Grade 9 students and based on Christopher Marlowe's The Passionate Shepherd to His Love and Sir Walter Raleigh's The Nymph's Reply to the Shepherd.

Aratig to His Love

Come live with me and be my love
And we will travel the world and see its wonders
From the vast blue seas
To the great gardens of flowers

And I will make you happy everyday
I’ll cook you breakfast, bring you gifts,
Make the short days last.

For you I shall give my life
And share my happiness.
If these delights thy mind may move
Then come live with me and be my love.

Polarlight's Reply to Aratig

If all your promises were from the heart
Then I will be the best for you,
Love you more than you do.

I feel that your promises are true
But then I won’t assume
That you’ll keep them all.

My heart tells me that you will try
But all I want is for you to be true to yourself and to me.
Then these delights my mind might move
To be with you and live happily.

-----

Emanon to His Love

Come live with me and let's create memories
And we will never forget these ones we yield
We will be appreciative and shout with all our heart
"Life is like a playground, not a battlefield"

And I will make sure that we won't waste a second
You and me smiling as we talk to each other
Filled with glee even for no reason
Pure happiness nothing can bother
For you I shall stay no matter what happens
For I don't want to leave you like I did back then
If these delights thy mind may move
Then I may be happiest among all men

Bae's Reply to Emanon

If your promises were more than just words
Then in a heartbeat I'd go with you
And create as many memories as our love will allow
Small fragments of the past we can hold on to

I feel the sincerity in your intentions
And your promises are more than enough
But if our feelings were to change as the sun goes down
Wouldn't it be hard to keep this up?

My heart tells me to trust you, though
For reasons I don't understand
Then these delights my mind might move
To go with you and take your hand

Once upon a time, a few mistakes ago…

He spent a summer by my side, he filled my days with endless wonder. I'm so glad I found you. We found love in a hopeless place, inch by inch we're moving closer. You are the best thing that's ever been mine. But you've been talking in your sleep. Tell me that you've had enough of our love.

Are you gonna stay the night? Won’t you stay with me? I want you to stay. Please stay for a while now. Say something, I’m giving up on you. Where are you now, cause I'm thinking of you? Kiss me hard before you go, blow me one last kiss.

You and me could write a bad romance, the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now.

You didn’t have to cut me off, you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough. Who do you think you are, running ‘round leaving scars? Why you gotta be so rude?

Just gonna stand there and watch me burn? Just gonna stand there and hear me cry? Where were you when I was on my worst, down on my knees? Why do you have to go and make things so complicated?

This is the part where I break free, this is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me. Let it go. I’m alright, I’m okay. I'm so much better without you.

But when I'm with him I am thinking of you. Can’t remember to forget you, I keep forgetting I should let you go. After all this time I’m still into you. Tell me why you're so hard to forget- don't remind me. I'm not over you. I'm just a little too not over you.

Please don't be in love with someone else. Please don't have somebody waiting on you.

We're not broken just bent, and we can learn to love again.

Here comes a man ready for the world,
Ready to give out everything that his heart could ever would.
A stately man, full of grace and love,
Was changed by a woman who also changed his heart.

It started out hopeful, the sun shining on a warm summer day
Their happiness immeasurable without doubt or dismay
They laid low on the coming of fall
Creating a promise that will be broken not for long

They all thought it was good and everything would go as planned
But they didn't see that breaking is at hand
A change of heart ruled out the love
From which sprang the brokenness of the heart

The cold came and the dark days crept into weeks
He asked for the love that they used to feel
Wondering what went wrong
But all she said was nothing, just letting his words fall

She silently left to pursue another one
Leaving him behind with the shards of their broken promise
He let out his despair in the flurrying blizzard storm
Turning himself cold with icicles in his heart

He was altered and forever changed
The love he used to feel is now a thing that never existed
He now haunts us in our dreams, stealing our every sleep
In the search for his pieces that once defined him

Literary: To my Dearest

9/22/2014 07:29:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

Like most first loves, our story had to end. There is still a small tinge of the bitter feeling in my heart from the day you said goodbye. I don't think that that feeling would be gone because like most first loves, our story is unforgettable.

I am not here to tell our love story nor am I here to curse you for leaving. I wrote this letter to you with hopes that I could finally let go, and that I could truly be honest with you one last time. Yes, there is still a feeling of regret having its rage, revolting against my mind and my decisions. However, I still think what's gone is gone, and our separation is for the better.

I just want to tell you that I won't ever forget you, and that no one could ever replace you. I might finally meet my one true love in the future, but he won't probably make my heart flutter the way you did. His smile would be the sweetest in the world for me, but my mind would never erase the thoughts of your smug smirk, or your ever so bright grin. I would still remember the feeling of your clammy calloused hand enveloping mine, telling me that I'm safe, that everything's alright. Cold, rainy nights would still remind me of the times I curled up in my blanket, pretending to be asleep, giggling softly while talking to you.

I could list down all the things about you that I would never forget but I am afraid that might be too long. I have figured that the days I spent with you, though we are not together anymore, will never go to waste. I guess we were too naive, too nonchalant, to believe that our little story would never end. We believed that our promises would be made, that our stupid little dreams would come true. We were too lost into the feeling of love that we were blinded on the harsh realities and dilemmas life had to offer.

In the end, as I've already said, you still hold a piece of my heart, and that is yours eternally.

I still love you, just not the kind of love we had when we were still together. I would continue to do so, and my love for you shall extend in every dimension, and my memories with you would never cease to exist.

Before everything ends, before I go completely, thank you. Thank you for the time we spent together. I could never have wished for a better first love. I guess this is our final goodbye; our memories will remain as bittersweet as my favourite chocolate.

I love you... to the moon and back, to the universe and under, and to the end of infinity.

Yours truly,
Galaxy

Para lang maipakita sa iyo
Ang tunay na pagmamahal na ramdam ko
Ay gusto kong isama sa awiting ito
Na ikaw na nga ang hinahanap ko

(chorus)

(chorus)

Dahil

(chorus)

Giliw, sa iyo
Giliw, sa iyo

"Create a five-minute presentation about the ethnic dances of the Philippines."

A pair of students sat on the corner as the others push the seats to the edges of the room to have more practice space. From the way they laugh, you won't sense a bit of uneasiness even if the deadline is only three days away and their class hasn't even worked on a title yet. Talking about how they slept when the topic was discussed and their whines and complaints about how their teacher is boring drown out the directions given by their leader. A classmate shouts asking for help to organize the music but was quickly shut down and mocked by the pair. Tired from laughing too hard, the two doze off.

Meanwhile, the musical committee gathered around the electric fan. All the members were the popular students who volunteered to get the position. They elected the most popular kid as committee head. He told his story about how he got his new phone while sitting in front of the fan thus receiving most of the air. He then tells a funny joke and everyone around him started to laugh. This was noticed by their leader who then asked about the progress of the group. The head immediately replied that they can't do anything since the props committee has not planned a costume yet and one by one the others justify the committee head's reason. The leader gave up trying to question them and focused on the other groups. As she went away, the head badmouthed the leader.

As the leader was explaining the topic further, a frisbee flew only a few centimeters above her head. Though nearly hitting their leader, the receiver throws back the frisbee this time, hitting their classmate beside the leader. They laughingly apologized and carried on with their horseplay along with other members of the choreography group. The teacher shushed the class causing the students to stop their ruckus but resumed their childish play after finding a well-made paper ball. A player scored a three but hit the teacher in the head.

Bothered by their child-like behavior, the self-proclaimed "mature" students went outside to buy food at the canteen without even letting their leader know. Having their fill, they sat outside, by the door talking about their relationships and their favorite athletes. Realizing this, the leader went to their spot and asked which committee they belonged to. One student replied while texting someone that they will just buy the materials needed. The leader fumingly re-entered the room and discussed who will do the comical scene. Lightning-fast, the students outside sprang to action and presented themselves.

Only fifteen minutes after the teacher gave the signal, the leader gave up and walked out crying.

She was full of them. She gave them all she has--her time, effort, sweat, tears--but still nothing. Like asking rain from a rock, the ebony of a crane: nothing. Was it too much to hope? Did she not give enough? Was it wrong to persevere?

In the middle of the hallway, tears blessed the floor. With one final sigh, she closed her eyes and quit.

The day of the judging came. It was a miracle that they managed to present something. After that they were all psyched. Some act humble saying they won't make the cut with smiles reaching their ears. Along, they made comments and comparisons between theirs and the other classes performances since they were first to perform. Alas, drumroll.

They were surprised of the result. Only third place after all the effort they've done? There must be some kind of mistake! They gave it their best! Only two thoughts came to their minds. One, the judging was biased since one of the judges is a friend of the champion class. It must be the reason. They made everyone laugh even with their unprecedented errors, how could they lose? If, however, they were proven wrong, it must be their leader. She quit on them. She was too weak to handle and lead the class. It was her fault they lost since she didn't do her job properly. All eyes glued to her, she faced them. With a straight face, she left them. All the insults came after but she didn't flinch a bit. She wasn't bothered at all.

Who was right, who was wrong? Be smart enough to know. Be human enough to understand.

nina Trisha Serrano at Juneau Villanueva

Madalas ko siyang makita
Palakad-lakad kung saan

Sa pasilyo ng second floor

Minsan pa sa may hagdan
Sa tuwing ika'y dadaan
Ang ngiti'y hindi mapigil

Sa tuwing ika'y ngingiti
Ang mundo'y tila tumitigil
Bawat galaw ay tinititigan
Kinikilig pa kung minsan

Bawat sabihin ay pinakikinggan
Napapangiti kadalasan
Hanggang tingin na lang
Hanggang doon na lang ata

Hanggang sulyap na lang
Basta’t hindi mahahalata

Ang mundo natin ngayon
Parang Mercury at Pluto
Sobrang magkaiba
 Nasa magkabilang dulo pa

Nasa grado sampu ako
Malayong malayo sa'yo

Nasa grado pito ako
Ibang iba sa'yo
Lakas ng loob
Nasan ka?

Kapal ng mukha
Kailangan kita
"Amin na kasi"
Ang kalaban ay marami

"Lapitan mo na"
Ang laging bulong sa sarili

Ano ba ang gagawin?
Ang daming maaaring maganap
Ano ang sasabihin?
Ano pa ang kailangan?

Gusto kong lapitan
Ngunit hindi ko kaya

Gusto kong kausapin
Subalit nauuna ang hiya
Lalapit na dapat

Magsasalita na ng tapat
Ang kaba'y talagang sagabal

Lakas ng loob, di pa sapat

Sa susunod na pagkikita
Pangako, aamin na.
Sana lang ay hindi maunahan
Ng hiya’t pag-aalinangan.

UPIS Boys VT, nakasungkit ng kauna-unahang panalo

9/11/2014 08:01:00 PM Media Center 1 Comments

(c) Derick Urgena

Ikaw? Kamusta?”

“May pupuntahan kasi ako. Napadaan lang ako dito sa school natin dati...”

“Buti nga na-recognize mo pa school natin dati.  Bato-bato nalang eh.  Dating garden naging parking amp.”

“Hahaha. Sino ba hinihintay mo Kuya Drew?  Tsaka bakit dito, mahal dito.”

“Sino pa ba hahaha. Tsaka, ‘di naman kami rito.  Dadaanan lang din namin ‘yung school.  Papa-nostalgic moment kaunti.  Ang dami nangyari diyan. Lahat ng bagay na ‘yun nagsimula sa isang araw.  Wala lang.  May mga pangyayaring masarap balik-balikan.”

“Cheesy kuya shet hahahahhahahahhahahhahahah buti kayo pa rin hanggang ngayon.”

“Loko hahaha. Buti nga hindi na lang natapos noong isang araw na ‘yon eh, nagkamuntikan na eh. Uy sandali.  Balita ko nangibang bansa ka eh. Anong ginagawa mo rito? ”

“O, Ano namang balak mo gawin dito?”

            “Balak ko siyang balikan. :)”

The second I caught a glimpse of your alluring visage, I assured myself that I cannot let you go. I may sound melodramatic but the longer the time I spent with you, the more urgent that I needed to confess to you.

-----

7 pm. I opened the door and rapidly looked for you. Your beauty outshined all those inside the same room. I went near you and you beamed at me. The ice was instantly broken.

8 pm. We kept each other company. You cracked jokes just like how you would on a normal day. And after each of your puns, I shrieked with laughter to show you that I am truly one supportive friend. Though the term “friend” kind of felt degrading because the two of us shared a phenomenal spark. And it is appropriate to describe our spark that way for everyone knows about “us”- about how we click and how we are our own “clique”. Everyone else knows but you.

9 pm. I wanted to let you know. But your jokes and stories made the scene less serious. Yes, I love it how you turn an anxious conversation into one that’s laidback. But I am now ready to step out of my comfort zone to tell you how I feel. How I wish that you would step out as well-that you would be more austere about us. Because carrying all the load makes it so much worse.

10 pm. How selfish of me to think that I am the only one struggling. I wanted to resume my moment with you but the people in gowns took you away from me. On the plus side, I was able to rethink my speech for you. After incorporating all the words in my head, I have decided to just tell you that this night does not change the way I cherish you. I didn’t want to startle you for your Mother was outside waiting as well.

11 pm. I could not take the delay any longer; I was in the brink of my tranquility. I ran to you and started to preach my feelings to you. But you weren’t listening. You weren’t because you simply can’t. Your mother was with us and she was holding your hand. I wanted to hold your other hand but the force might cause you more pain. I was wrong about carrying all the load; I was nonchalant compared to you. How stupid of a weakling like me.

12 am. Your heart stopped beating. So did mine, metaphorically that is. My speech for you won’t be heard until the day they bury you. Everyone who knows about our magical connection, including your mother, will get to hear it. Surely, my message for you might change the way how people see me; I don’t care. But I swear to you that my love for you will never change because from the first hour of your last day, from the first time we became friends, from the first time I got to know you, I already loved you as if you were my life. But you can’t be called my life anymore since- well let’s face it- you lost your life. Please take mine with you. / by Promenade

You keep saying you can't
And so you don't even try,
You keep saying you'll miss
Without taking the shot

You keep saying you'll fail
And so you always keep safe,
You keep saying "no,"
Without considering "yes"

You keep your world closed
After a let down here and there,
You avoid any type of risk
And keep it an arm-length full away

You always have an excuse,
"I'll burn the bridge
when I get there,"
Without knowing for sure

You keep saying you've won
Without realizing you've lost,
You keep saying you're happy,
What an unconvincing lie

You need to hit rewind
And look at life again
It's normal to be afraid,
But going by is not to live

We fall and get back up,
That's what life's about
We live in constant doughty
Not in constant doubt

You need to hold your chin up
And remember I'm here for you
Smile and take the plunge
I promise, things will work out

You see, there's this girl.
(There's always a girl.)
And I like her.
(So very much.)
I like her short, wavy hair,
Which she'd brush aside
(Ever so gently)
While she took down notes.
I like how passionate she'd get
While she told me about her day
And she’d get this look in her eyes
That made you think the world was alright,
That the world was paradise.
(It would be if I was with her.)
And I loved how
I couldn't help but smile
Whenever she spoke to me.
(Every single time.)
But there's a problem
(There's always a problem.)
She doesn't like me.
(Not in that way.)
And I can't just tell her
(Because I know.)
I know how she is.
So I guess for now
I'll just give up.
(That’s all I can do.)
But I know I'll always smile
When I talk to her.
I know I'll always love
Her laugh, her presence.
(Always.)

college,

Feature (Submission): Lessons College Has Taught Me

9/08/2014 08:01:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

Back in grade 10 I was fortunate enough to have a choice of where to go for college -- I qualified for similar courses in UP Diliman and Ateneo and although my parents had their preference, ultimately it was up to me to decide. It was difficult, but to cut the long story short I chose UP -- chaotic, frustrating system, tough acads and all -- over the orderly, privileged, and more or less equally academically-strong Ateneo. Coming from eleven years at UPIS, I chose UP because it was familiar to me. I’d been at UP all my life so it wouldn’t be hard to adjust to college life, right?

I’m in my fourth (and final!) year at Diliman now, and I realize now that I didn’t choose the easy road I thought I did when I chose UP -- it’s been a roller coaster three years for me, to put it mildly. But I also realized that college, especially at UP, is when your classes teach you so much more than academics -- it’s a preview for the real world where you’re free to make mistakes and learn in the process.

So what have I learned from my mistakes? A lot more than I ever expected.

ang aninag online,

Feature: Ang Aninag Online Behind the Scenes

9/08/2014 07:51:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

For years, UPIS Media Center has been publishing online entries, news, and articles on various topics. It has adapted into this modern generation when it entered the social networking realm, making the students' compositions accessible to readers worldwide. From printed newspapers to online graphics, it has evolved into a complex website known as Ang Aninag Online.

It was under Media Center 1 2012 (MC12012) that a blog site was proposed as one of its projects. Soon enough, after 26 August 2011, the first ever publishing day, Ang Aninag Online has received positive feedback and interesting reviews about the online reading system. The website has grown leaps and bounds since.

But what goes on behind the links?

Every word and photo is read, sorted, edited, and approved by the UPIS Media Center Editorial Board, which consists of the writers, the editors, and the learning coordinators. These people do everything--from hunting news to encoding to promoting. They are the ones who keep alive the Media Center's heart, who keep the ink flowing from the heads of the writers to the minds of the readers.

This may seem like serious work but within the walls of the MC Headquarters, there resides memories which could not be forgotten. Each MC member could testify that not all compositions come from a sound, peaceful mind. Some literary entries resulted from disorganized thoughts, heartfelt emotions, or random, awkward moments. Even the simplest thought could be the source of light for even someone with writer’s block.

Being part of the MC staff does not start and end in one semester. Rather, it is a life-long experience. Until now, MC alumni still remember their most remarkable experiences during their term. Others still visit the UPIS building just to see the progress of the current MC or to simply say ‘hi’. They consider themselves as part of a fun and loving family, where they share a common ground with their fellow MC brothers and sisters.

MC encourages everyone, whether or not they are a staff member, to write about anything they want--love, friendship, school, heartbreak, religion, the random, even the mundane. Most published literary works are written anonymously and this stirs the curiosity of readers. Most of them wonder, even investigate, who wrote certain articles, why it was written, and, of course, to whom it is addressed. Almost always knowing the answers to these is but one of the perks of being part of MC.

It has also been an MC tradition to publish a Creative Writing project every semester. Starting from Isang Araw by MC 1 2012 to Cannot Be Reached by MC 1 2015, these stories are much-awaited literary entries divided into chapters about the life of ordinary UPIS students.

At least once a year, Ang Aninag Online also transforms into Di Ma-Aninag Online, the school paper's spoof edition which was the brainchild of MC 2013.

As a whole, the Media Center functions as a system. Without one piece, it cannot work effectively and efficiently. This work program has not only brought UPIS students from around the web and the world together, but it also nurtured bonds that could be cherished forever. Year after year, these bonds form a longer and stronger chain--one that binds the minds of readers to think, create, and share their ideas.

For the past years the Media Center has greatly served its purpose. We share this milestone with you, our dear readers. Together, let us look forward to more creative works and publishing days. On to the next one! / by Christine Bailon
