Literary: Leave Nothing Behind

The beginning to what end?

The curtains part to reveal the set
Spotlights blaze with a flick of a switch
A wave of music assaults the ears
They all wait in anticipation

They say the world is a massive stage
They say life is a performance

What performance?

Yet what do you owe the world?
Why should you care about what they think of you?
What kindness would push you to bequeath anything to them?

In the end, there is no consequence
If you’ve confidence in what you do
You could care or couldn’t care
There is no right or wrong
Or a correct way to live life
And leave life

There is only chatter and static around us
In the end, what you do is up to you

The Sin of Selflessness

People work so hard to leave something behind
Part by part, they shatter
Into infinitesimal dust to be whisked away
People work so hard to lose themselves in the process

Did you do it for them?
Did you do it for you?

What sorrow it must be to spend so much time and effort
To only realize
You did everything for someone
But they would never do the same for you

The Virtue of Selfishness

Yet it would matter had you done it for you
If everything you’ve done, you’ve done it for you too

It matters not
If you sang to a stadium full of people
It matters not
If only a few people cared to watch you dance
It matters not
If only one person saw your story

What matters is you take what you have and run with it

Even if the only person who reads what you write
Is you

To Whatever End

Leave nothing behind,
Except the hurt, the pain, the baggage

Take everything that made a difference
What doesn’t count might as well never existed

Seize only what you need

No matter what, do it for you
Do it for you

The end… for a beginning?

Did I do it for me?
Did I do it for you?

And yet still, thank you
Had you stayed ‘til the end and read
I leave everything that I wrote to you
May it serve you well

And if not,

Well it’s not like I really wrote it for you

I only wished that perhaps with every word I wrote
I’d have left the pain behind,
To move forward

Leave nothing behind,
And always move forward

Literary: Reign of Silence

Darkness
The darkness is absolute, silence reigns above all,
There’s nothing to see, and nothing to hear,
There’s nothing that’s said, for no more can be said

Everything is as everything is,
But everything isn’t as everything should

Embers
And so,
Hesitant embers glowed in the hearths of men,
Trying to turn ablaze from timid coals,
But as slivers of color began to show,
The dark but simply reclaimed its black abode

Fire
But then,
A sole flame, sanguine, took its turn,
Fighting back with words of fire,
And yet despite its courage, strength,
‘Twas still snuffed out by th’opressors’ will

Extinguished
All which burn brilliant against the dark,
Are swallowed by the eternal night,
So now not even flickers stir;

Through such the spectres at the helm,
Keep all beneath their sceptred sway,
Despite their thoughts being known to none,
Naught can be done but to obey

Darkness
The darkness is absolute, and silence reigns above all,
There’s nothing to see, and nothing to hear,
There’s nothing that’s said, for no more can be said

Literary: Boulderhead

Once upon a more certain time,
People would hear an ancient chime
Listen well, children past their prime
To Time’s spectacular nursery rhyme

An old, old, old, wise man said
“Rise, you fool child, from your bed.
To stay and mope here instead,
You’re better off dead!”

“Do you know of the town called Boulderhead?”
The child confused, he shakes his head
The man then would tell of the town aforesaid
That would fill the likes of you with dread

The town did look like any town
But it was horrible, hands down
The people, were horrible, I’d vote them down
If this was Facebook, I’d give them a frown

See the citizens of all shapes and sizes
But all was the same, lazy enterprises
There was no such word as exercises
The stores, full of bed, chair, and bench franchises

Some did stand whenever they could
But what they do, they never do good
They talk with foul tongues, I wish they were wood
To cut them off, if you think you should

Some did try to do their best
But children you see, life is a long quest
Some try, and try, and stop from the stress
They love the start and forget the rest

They love to love, and love they did
Couples would relax in parks and hid
They’d talk of wonders and dreams they’d build
But when all is done, they’ll leave when they’re not thrilled

When the butterflies are gone, all is lost
Begin again, slowly hearts would frost
The town, sadly, the line they crossed
Actions have consequences, always a cost

They slept from the start, they’ll sleep forever
Their snores would thrum, hollow terror
Progress, advancement, change; never
They will never feel the touch of life; together

Stone will erode, metal will rust
Give it some Time, all will be dust
In the crumble and collapse, we trust
All will perish with the gust

A warning to those who listened and read
Let the wise man’s word be spread
Time’s clock ticks, go where no one has tread
Lest we all become like foolish Boulderhead

Literary: Condolence

Here lies his tomb
Not of smooth sycamore wood,
Or dark granite stone,
Nor brilliant golden pure

But an unadorned bedroom
The simplicity, falsehood
An illusion, peacefulness' clone
Though violent storms it did endure

The bed was his throne
On smooth silk his hand would glide
It felt cold to the touch
Like the marble wherein bones would hide

There he lay, staring at the window
Bright sunlight the curtains nullified
It's difficult to reside among the living
When with him, only numbness lived inside

To live - to endure - is tiring
To be unexplainably weak is tiring
Even lying on this bed was tiring
He was tired without even trying

Perhaps it was the time
For a long, indefinite rest
Evanesce like how the light wanes
As dusk introduces the moon's waxing crest

It is a hobby of humans to think
That angels still remained where they once stood
There are no saviors but yourselves
Is it a sin to be weak as he was, for good?

In this world, there are but two outcomes
For those who live but half a life and grieve
Should you choose to stay, you lose
Should you choose to leave...

Night came
This world and his simple room,
The darkness laid claim

The quiet wind blew into his room
It lulled him with ease
His breathing slowed and synchronized
With the sway of the mellow breeze

And...
...He died

And the next day...
...He woke up

Yet there where he once lay
Someone else took his place
A shadow of a shadow of life
A different mind, yet of the same face

This newcomer he sat down
And on the smooth silk he glided his hand
It felt cold to the touch, like the icy heart
Of those who swear of a promised land

There was a glint that shown in his eyes
Yet calculating and cruel
There will be blood, and none of it his
He was a fighter, unlike the former fool

Maybe it's the time for a little retribution
Make the world pay, like anyone else would
Do what everyone else wants to do,
To stand where angels once stood

In this world, there are but two outcomes
For those who are easily misperceived
Should you choose to stay, you need to change
If you can't change, you should leave

Literary: The Leader Pattern x The Fractured Hourglass

The Leader Pattern

Bring in a leader, who can win the heart of masses,
Then divide the nation to different social classes.
Limit their rights as they slowly bathe in despair
Make them suffer while they’re still unaware.

By the time they realize what’s going on,
Take no guilt and blame it to the bygone.
Now flash a smile and keep the issue silent,
Tone it down before they become violent.

If it doesn’t work then change your goal,
Spread some fright and take control.
Until the day the masses will take no more,
And hopefully start their awaited uproar.

A large group of scorned will come together,
And the daunted will imitate to feel safer.
They’ll ruin the leader they strongly hated,
With the words, stones and lies they created.

Once the feud’s over the nation will raise their glasses,
Then bring in a leader who won the heart of masses.

The Fractured Hourglass

Bring on the leader who lost the nation’s good graces
Who turned his back on our land of different colors and faces
He may antagonize, demoralize, and give us the end of the rope
Our desolation is key to unchain hope

See, don’t hastily believe, and seek the truth
The guilt of on-lookers, no fancy words will soothe
Brandish a grin as you voice it out loud
See him shake in the power of a woken crowd

If it doesn’t work, then what better reason to work harder
His eagerness to deceive must be met with challenging ardor
Because we, the people will take no more
Get up and ask them, “Wasn’t there an oath you swore?”

But it doesn’t end with just one dreadful person
Society’s veins are corrupted with despair’s poison
They’ll ruin each other, thinking that they’re with us in this fight
When the “plans” they “planned” for the nation, never saw daylight

This cycle’s outworn, the sand’s out from the hourglasses
It’s time to bring in people who’ll be the hope of the masses

Literary: Zero

When I first thought of how I was going to die, I thought it would be heroic. I imagined myself in a stand-off with the local villain, only to die tragically as I used the last of my strength to protect a mother and child from doom. Sometimes, I'd go for the lamentable route where I'd die as a sacrificed myself by taking the bullet for my best friend in a crisis. Little did I know that in the end, it would all be so mundane.

Death didn't hurt as much as I thought it would be. It was as if I just closed my eyes, and it all ended in a flash. There was a tug in my chest, and butterflies filled my stomach, like every time I rode rollercoasters. The moment I opened my eyes again, I wasn't on my bed. I was greeted by the blinding brightness of Hollywood-style heaven. Complete with the children’s choir background music, and the countless angels, with all their wings and floating feathers, one of which fell into my gaping mouth and half-choked me to second death.

One angel in a dazzlingly white gown led me to a line leading up to the pearly white gates. I'm not even kidding, there were pearls as wide as fingernails set into the gates, and it even showed off this faint golden glow. All it was lacking was a large golden sign of Cupid pointing to "Heaven."

As I waited in line, I thought to myself that this was monumental. This was my time to face the one and only Big One, The Dude (or Dudette), The Ultimate Judger. Yet I felt a pang in my chest, the waiting filled me with dread. What if I'm not cut out for heaven? Am I good enough?

At last, I reached the gates and was escorted into a monstrous citadel. This is probably where God lives, I thought to myself. At the end of a hallway, we reached an unassuming wooden door. Even God needs budget cuts sometimes.

As I entered, I was shocked as the room was full of angels, sitting on high seats. I gazed up at them, for I was like a lion in a cage, and they were but spectators from above.

"Since before eternity, mortals have presented themselves at the end of their lives to this Council to be assessed; this is the Law and will continue until the end of eternity. You understand that you now stand before us, and your every move is your key and your betrayer for your chance in Heaven?” a booming voice called out before me.

"I-uh yes," I replied, without understanding what he just said.

"Let us begin," he called forth once more.

"You know, 37 years is quite pitiful an age to die. So young...and with so few achievements. Graduated fine, yet took numerous tries to get a steady job. Did get a job as an editor for a local publishing house after a while of searching. Married...and that’s about it. Your record says not much else,” blurted out a ridiculously condescending voice.

"What makes you think you deserve to be here?” asked one.

“Uh-,” I was tongue-tied. Before I could think of something, they already fired in quick succession.

"You see, there are those here who have won Nobel Prizes, saved hundreds of lives, or have won championships in the name of their country, yet what have you done? What makes you think you’re on the same level as them to deserve Heaven?" asked another.

"I believe the one who came before you died tragically from a stand-off with a local villain as he used the last of his strength to protect a mother and child from doom," commented one, with a grin.

“What is a hundred lives saved or the hundreds of other worthy applicants waiting in line to a measly life led by a no one like you? You are nothing. If anything you are a zero. It perfectly signifies your achievements,” sneered the condescending one yet again.
That’s enough! They’re beating me into a corner here. I mustered all my courage and exclaimed, "But ladies and gentlewings, a hundred couldn't possibly be greater than zero!”

"I must be going deaf if I just heard you say zero has any possibility of becoming greater than a hundred," muttered one.

"Oh but you've heard me quite clearly. You see I've lived well past several hundreds of days, survived hundreds of days of schooling, and took hundreds of requirements and tests. After that, I labored for hundreds of days and nights to persist in a society that has deemed me unworthy well before I have died. Yet there is no greater achievement than the zero birthdays of my parents I missed. A hundred is no better than the zero anniversaries I neglected, or the zero friends I have forgotten through the years,” I answered.

“That doesn’t make you any worthier than anyone else,” said one.

“I didn’t say I was. I only meant that although I have had less in my also short-lived life, I have gained triumphs. What of the lesser numbers that makes them inferior? I had one wife, but there could never be anyone for me than her. She is the only one who genuinely understood me, the only one I’ve ever truly loved. I only have one heart, or I had one, yet she will have it for eternity,” I blurted that out so quickly even I couldn’t keep up with what I said.

The hall was filled with silence.

“I’ve been married to her for ten years, it’s a little unfair really,” I continued. “You talk as if everyone gets the chance to live to a hundred. As if we all have the chance, the time, or the talents to live up to your divine expectations. But I’ve had 37 years, it’s all that I have been given, yet even now I would never trade it for infinity. There is meaning in even just one fleeting life, I know because all this time I’ve tried searching for it. You can even ask God, because he knows I’ve tried.”

Yet again, greeted with silence.

“You’ve got spirit, I can tell you that. You may leave the hall, you will return when we tell you to,” an angel says curtly.

I was escorted out of the room, and I hit my head on the wall with a sigh. What was I thinking, what if I looked like a lunatic? “You can even ask God?” Was I looking for a fight, I’m doomed.

I waited outside and I slowly lost my patience, has it been an hour? Or maybe only minutes? Does time exist in Heaven? Maybe I could ask an angel. If they let me stay here, that is.

Finally, the doors opened for me once more, and with a resigned sigh, I entered the hall.

“You have been given a chance, and this has now passed,” said the booming voice.

I felt a tugging in my chest.

“We have judged you fairly in the name of Heaven,” Is this what a person feels when they die a second time?

There were butterflies in my stomach.

“Everyone gets only what they deserve, nothing more, nothing less,” what if I never meet here again in heaven?

It’ll be finished in a flash.

“You will now receive our verdict.” Was it kindness in his voice or was it pity?

I closed my eyes.

Literary: Lachrymose x Sanguine

Lachrymose

Leave me, for there is nothing left of me
Often I would get lost in my mind and it calms me
Vacuity, there is only the vast emptiness
Everyone else is gone, as they have always been

I dangle my feet off the ledge, observing the nothingness underneath
Save yourself, many could not and they did not
Nor can you save me
Tears don’t suit you, especially when they’re for me

Raindrops of red, it’s okay it’s not what you said
Exhaling regret, inhaling grief
All I need is a little push in the right direction
Lost, I will fly and leave you as everyone else left me

Sanguine

Stay, for there is something I’d like you to have.
Often, I would look for you in places
Where I know that you will not be found
Yet I still look for you, hoping there’s a chance

May my loving words reach a friend, deserving of the love I have.
Save yourself, for soon, I will come to your rescue
I will do anything that I can to defend you
A tragedy doesn’t suit a hero such as you.

A love that’s sanguine will be able to save you,
Grieve no longer and regret not,
I will mend your broken fragments back together,
For all I need of you, is to hold on for a little bit longer

Literary: I Don't Know

In life one will meet
Those who will pass them by,
Those who will amount to only moments,
Those who are bound by blood,
Those who matter,
Those who won’t,
And those who did

Who are they to you?
Do you see them
As clearly as you see
Yourself?

We are, in fact,
If looked into,
Fabricated
By our own aspirations
And the expectations of others
Upon us

She smiles
Yet she knows of pain

He jokes
Yet he knows of grief

She laughs with you
Knowing there could be no other moment
To be happy

He makes use of the time he has
Knowing he’ll go home in tears

But you only see the smiles
The sparkling eyes

How deceptive
Those moments of laughter

Because that’s how life should be
Happy
And the world will fall
If the walls we built around us crumbles
As society finally realizes
How broken we really are

We hurt
Because of the realization
That man is expendable
As the universal being made man superfluous
Quick to break and easy to replace

How can you expect someone to be any more real
When the only certainty is desolation
And what’s made up is our cool façade

Built on the hope that maybe one day
When we take off our masks
It will reveal smiling faces, content hearts
Not the misshapen appearance
Of a dispirited soul

To him, she is lovely
To her, he is kind
To them, they are content
To you, I am the one who smiles

Tell me
Do you see me
As clearly as I see you?

Literary: A Child's Tale

Chamber of Nyx
Everything was dark, then
A flash of lightning
Shadows crept up the walls
I heard the monster’s whispered call
Raspy, rough, and ragged
I gasped
The bed shook and trembled
And from beneath came forth
Terrors and horrors unimaginable
I ran

The King’s Quarters
With a racing heart
I sought audience
With the King and Queen
With bated breath
I held back tears
And told them of the frightful scene
“They had big eyes, and ugly noses,
Pointy teeth, and scary voices.”
“Nonsense!” cried the King,
“Cease your lying, child!
Such beasts are just of myths and dreams.
You are dismissed, go back to your chambers.”
With dashed hopes, I fled
I hid beneath the blankets
And cried myself to bed

Tower of Hero’s Keep
On the morrow
I awoke with terror
Thinking what this day could hold
Could there be more of these beasts untold?
If the King shall not heed my call
I shall have to take this into my own hands
I gathered my knights and rushed to the keep
Where we planned these evils’ defeat
We downed our drink
And resolved ourselves
To face these creatures of the night

Dungeon of Wickedness
With steady march and all arms drawn
We steeled ourselves
And charged into their realm
Beneath the castle where darkness reigned
They slowly showed their faces
With teeth that could grind anything to dust
Yet we charged with purpose
For who else would challenge the darkness
But us?
We slashed, we parried
We feinted, we blocked
Until all of them fell
Their wickedness mocked
As we bade the darkness farewell

Apollo’s Tavern
And so did fall the evil things
Not by hand of King or Queen
And so the youth did triumph o’er
The creatures which they so deplored
Not with adult might or strength
But with children’s unfaltering hope
Not with age’s wisdom brought
But with youth’s optimistic look

Literary: The Lost Word

He was played

He was foolish enough
To have thought it possible
To love

He who was so unamiable
He who was disnatured,
So destitute of feelings

Who could ever love him?

Because unlike the crowd of fanatics
Who subscribe to Universalism,
Believing that one day we will all be saved
By the great power who bestowed upon us
Everything

This being, has endowed him with nothing
Nothing so enchanting
Nothing so lacking in him

Than love

For how could one ever love
If he was never loved?

He would wake up in the middle of the night
To shouts in the other room
The reboant sounds of a failing marriage
The signs of love lost, if there ever were

He would eat his breakfast
With no one at his side
But the whispers clinging to the air,
“You are alone.”

There is no such word as love

It is a made-up word
Constructed by us mere mortals
To give us the illusion of escape,
From this deep hole we have found ourselves in

Unlike the devotees, he will never be saved

From neglect, from abandonment

He will be forgotten
Like the children from the unlit garden
Doomed to seek this thing called love
Yet never find it

Literary: Helpless

Isn’t it just unfair
That there’s a whole universe
Yet only one life to live in it?

One life to laugh and to cry
To be free to live, and learn, and love
And watch the people pass us by

In the wake of despair
We say we’ll escape and travel the world
But why are we here and not there?

We’re wasting away, trapped
We’re wrapped up in our own act
We can’t interact, we’re self-reliant
We can’t act, we stay silent

There’s a world we can’t have
Joy that won’t last
Love that won’t stay

And it makes us insane every single day

Life is temporary
This world is immense
And it won’t adjust for us
And I don’t know what to do
Maybe I’ll never know what to do
Until it all ends for me

It makes me stay up all night
Thinking about how
Maybe I never had a chance
The moment I was born into this universe

We never had a chance

We’re limited

Perhaps because we are afraid
Afraid to be happy
Afraid to live, to learn
Afraid to love

Because we know that everything won’t last
Like we won’t last

What should I do?

What would you do?

Literary: Heartless

If I promised that I’d love you
That I would care for you
That I would enjoy every minute spent with you
Would you be satisfied?

Would we laugh blissfully
At how life seemed to magically
Make two spirited individuals meet?
Would everything be alright then?

No.

If I promised you this, I’d be lying.

I’d be lying if I told you I loved you,
If I told you I’d learn to love you
For I have no love to give.
Forgive me.

I can’t, I won’t promise you
The love you so deserve.
I have seen your heart broken
And I would never wish to be
The one to break it again.

Bitterness and resentment
Make my heart their home.
If cut open, it would bleed
Only misery of the worst kind

As it has bled so many times before.

As I lay in contemplation
I can only wish the Universe, the Grand-Maker
Or whoever being residing in the never-ending sky
Would grant you all that it has so neglected me.

Happiness.

Happiness of the most perfect kind
Complete, in all its glory and incandescence
Be it in something, or someone, or somewhere
May it light in you hope
In everything,
In everyone,
In everywhere.

Maybe you’ll even find love of the best kind.

I’ll be waiting for that day
And when that time comes
I’ll be leaving in good spirits
Knowing the heartless can be happy after all
In seeing the happiness of others.

Literary: Wander

You walk around, no big deal
With absolutely no plan in mind
Just to wander to nowhere
Anywhere but here

Anywhere but school
You never liked going to places
Where you conform, where you try to fit in
Yet end up short, never equal to your peers

You liked learning, to wolf down information
Yet there, you realize you just try to find a safe zone,
Never failing and not exceeding expectations either
Because you are tired, so tired, of trying to live up to ideals

Anywhere but home
Home is food and rest and safety
Appealing though they are, noise fills every home
That static noise that tells you are never enough

Because every mistake, every failure
Bleeds through your walls
Screaming at you to do better, and listen
And listen you shall, but your heart is never better

Anywhere, just anywhere
A place unknown, a room of strangers
Anywhere you are hidden, from speculation, from judgement
Even for just a moment, free

Free to wander
Free to learn, to live by your own rules, your own pace
To fit in as the wanderer, walking your feet off, to nowhere
Always alone and content to stay in the background

Watching people live their lives
Go places as you are too
Wishing they find themselves, wherever they wish
Anywhere, everywhere, over there where the sun shines the brightest

May we find a somewhere
In anywhere
But here

Literary: From the Start

Ever since I was a child
Love was felt in so many ways
Yet I didn’t know back then
That I get it everyday

It was my mother’s cooking
And my father’s forehead kisses
It was the food my friends gave
The hugs and birthday wishes

Then it turned to late night texts
With flowers in bouquets
It was being on a date
Love changed, they always say

Because growing up
I have learned that
Love is shared between two people,
With the person I never get tired of looking at

Then they came, those fateful days
To me now it’s all a haze
When I first told you how I felt
Until the day, holding a ring before you, I knelt

Every day, it was your loving goodbyes
And each moment I look into your eyes
It was the angelic laughter
Of our children which brings our family together

Then it was our grandchildren playing in the background
Keeping me company since you’re no longer around
While I absentmindedly fiddle
With the rings we swore with

I remember the love the world gave me
In every little detail, I see
How lucky am I that I could give back
What I so generously received even from the start

Literary: Just Like in the Movies

How strange an idea
To hope for a high life
In a strange world God only knows
Where everything is perfect for you and you alone

With a bit of drama here and there
Add a splash of passion and flare
Constantly living the good life, at ease
Just like in the movies

But you see, although you get to be the hero
The one who gets to see what life brings in the morrow
The one who gets to dodge all the bullets and the arrows
Of life’s generic villains who prey on the world’s sorrows

In time you’ll see, all will fade
We’ll be left alone clinging to the knife’s blade
The lush gardens you worked hard to grow
Will rot and each flower will twist from woe

People we love will always leave
Whether they want to or you want to, we all will grieve
The hero comes home from the grand arena
Victorious but aware that the perfect life was just a naïve idea

Do you know how much it hurts to be a hero?
The universe makes them from tragedy, a simple zero
They have to be strong because the loss never ends
Just like the movies we watch on the weekends

The world will bleed, and bleed, and bleed
And the Universe will cough up more heroes as we need
Lovers separated, friendships strained, families will be hated
For a life just like a movie we ourselves created

Literary: I am a Lie

Red is for the blood that rages in my veins
It is my bane and a pain to always feign strong through the strain

With the Orange I am weary, for it always comes after Red
It is the shame that I gain from all said and unsaid

You say Yellow is the light for a happy new day
But it is just when I lay, drop dead and wish the light to herald the end of my days

With some lies, some sighs and numerous tries not to cry
I attempt to hide how the Green strives to say, how it is they I can’t defy

I once thought I liked Blue for it was what made the sky
Now I wish I could be free and fly away from the fray, and sleep with the clouds’ lullaby

With the Violet comes the ultimate price
For thinking and lying that one’s life isn’t played by someone else’s dice

In the end, don’t pretend that you never had the unfeeling Gray
Because you were played and misled to think you had no choice and no say

In a life that is and always bleak and Black
One cannot escape all the cracks, flaks, setbacks, double backs and the stabbing of backs

But even Science knows Black IS all colors, maybe all I need is to discover
Other wonders of colors that will smother and cover the Gray all together

Now I see that the way won’t always be paved with Gray
That the Gold may be well on their way to save me from the lies I say

Literary: Our Seasons

Summer

I was the sky, and the clouds filled my head
Too blue was I, I bled with dread
Yet the sun arrived, he walked with light
My very soul lit up with him burning bright

I swore that we may face whatever weather
For no storm or tide is stronger than us together
The days grew longer and the nights passed by
We shone together, as the sun loved the sky

Fall

Suddenly, like the dry leaves on an autumn day
I was eager to fall, to finally stay
I lie on the ground, near the tree
Only to see him pass right by me

I watched as the branches turned into veins
She falls and nothing remains
Knowing it was her, it came to me
I turned into a fool she never wants to see

Winter

Snow, I must’ve been
Seeing me would have made you grin
But now towards you, numb is what I feel
Since I had too much of what now is real

You were filled with every color of the sky
Seeing you pale makes me ask why
Well, now, as you can see
It seems the cold bothered me

Spring

We are not as we once were
It was too much, such a stir, such a blur
The wind was too strong for us petals in the breeze
Yet we’ve been guided back for a chance to appease

I found myself drifting ruefully alone
I see flowers, amazing how they’ve bloomed and grown
Too stupid to say this before everything changed
But nevertheless, the sun loves the sky and that remains unchanged

Literary: Don't Bother

I glance at the sky
For a glimpse of a sign
Perhaps a divine message designed
To comfort my weary mind

For the who, what, why
Fill this messed up mind of mine
And the how, where, when
Follow this infinite line

Even as I sleep
My zzz’s I could never keep
As my dreams they contort
They distort, for a relief is a leap of an effort

They would never be complete
Running away from, racing to some
Powerful entity, divine, imaginary
A faceless space with an uncanny gaze

And then I would wake up
And “What’s up?” Well, guess what
Taunted, left torn, and tainted
There is no sweet in dreams that are haunted

Without a mission, I envision
A life with no passion
As I look for a purpose
I can only curse with these verses

This life that I lead
Left to plead with these dreams
For a divine sign in those uncanny eyes
No mission, no vision, only an entity reviled.

Literary: Sticky Notes

It’s funny what people choose to remember. Our mind, even when we don’t notice it, chooses what matters most to us. Something we know we will need in the future, becomes a memory. A little post-it in our brain that reminds us whenever we try to extract that memory we left behind. Yet sometimes, we try and try to tap into our brains, looking for those little sticky notes, but we end up blank.

No, it’s not even about ending up blank. It’s about never wanting to look back on those memories again. Like wanting to shove those sticky notes in a shredder and hope that everybody else has forgotten about your past, too. But never forget that life is full of opportunities for you to be happy. Recognize the superb memories like you remind yourself of the lousy ones.

Yet you, you remember all the pain you’ve been through and all the anguish in you. Is it too much to ask for you to remember all the joy in the world? Is the idea of the universe being so gargantuan and celestial not enough for you? You dream of sleeping with the stars and the sky as your kingdom, yet you forget that this wondrous world is open for you to explore.

Your despair will only limit what you can achieve in this brilliant world. Take the memories; the good, the not-so-good, and the great. Make them bow to your will and shape them. Make your own stars and make this world your kingdom. Then the Earth will thank you for the memories you've left behind for generations to come.

If you are still not convinced, I could fill a hundred post-its right now. Every single one would remind you to remember how amazing life is when you start living it.

Literary: Remember the Time I Sang for You

Wake me up to your song
Gather up the band
Never forget to bring me along
To witness your music firsthand

I always thought
I was part of your team
The steady second voice
To go with your scheme

But I was just a note
Like all the other notes before me
Flat eight notes in the song of your life
Always in the wrong key

I should have seen it
I was the piano to your fortissimo
You took me to crescendo
But I couldn't keep up with your tempo

I SHOULD have seen it
We were never meant to be
To play in the same symphony
It was for you and some other, never for you and me

Leave me here without your song
Go on with your band
Forgive me if I don't come along
To see your new note dance to the wave of your hand
