In life one will meet
Those who will pass them by,
Those who will amount to only moments,
Those who are bound by blood,
Those who matter,
Those who won’t,
And those who did

Who are they to you?
Do you see them
As clearly as you see
Yourself?

We are, in fact,
If looked into,
Fabricated
By our own aspirations
And the expectations of others
Upon us

She smiles
Yet she knows of pain

He jokes
Yet he knows of grief

She laughs with you
Knowing there could be no other moment
To be happy

He makes use of the time he has
Knowing he’ll go home in tears

But you only see the smiles
The sparkling eyes

How deceptive
Those moments of laughter

Because that’s how life should be
Happy
And the world will fall
If the walls we built around us crumbles
As society finally realizes
How broken we really are

We hurt
Because of the realization
That man is expendable
As the universal being made man superfluous
Quick to break and easy to replace

How can you expect someone to be any more real
When the only certainty is desolation
And what’s made up is our cool façade

Built on the hope that maybe one day
When we take off our masks
It will reveal smiling faces, content hearts
Not the misshapen appearance
Of a dispirited soul

To him, she is lovely
To her, he is kind
To them, they are content
To you, I am the one who smiles

Tell me
Do you see me
As clearly as I see you?
