Grand Alumni Homecoming set for December 10 festivities



UP Prep, UP Elem, UP High, and UPIS alumni will reunite for the UPIS Grand Alumni Centennial Homecoming happening on December 10 at the grounds of UPIS.

Dubbed as Sang Siglong Sigla, the festivities hosted by UPIS Batch ’91 are part of the year-long celebration for the centennial anniversary of UPIS, UP Preparatory, UP Elem, and UP High. The event also commemorates the school’s evolution and achievements throughout its history.

Administrators of the four laboratory schools, namely, Prof. Ma. Theresa de Villa of UPIS, Prof. Felicia delos Santos of UP Preparatory, Prof. Corazon Libunao of UP Elem, and Dr. Natividad Munarriz of UP High will deliver speeches on the event. The celebration will trace the evolution of the four laboratory schools through the Memory Lane which will feature pictures of UPIS from 1920s to the present.

Performers and bands include the UP Pep Squad, Centennial Dance Group, The Dawn, and Retrospect. The program will be hosted by alumni celebrities such as RA Rivera, Ces Orena-Drilon, Bettina Carlos, Apollo Abraham, Jun Ganaden, and Chiqui Hollman-Yulo. The event will conclude with the turnover to Batch ’92.

The homecoming is open to all alumni of the four laboratory schools. Attendees will be charged with an entrance fee of 100 pesos and may register online here. Registration at the venue will start at 4 pm.

UPIS unveils Centennial Coffee Table Book

The University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS) unveiled its Centennial Coffee Table Book on Monday, September 5 at the UPIS Function Room.

Led by its Editorial Staff Prof. Nancy T. Flor, Prof. Anthony Joseph C. Ocampo, and Prof. Roselle J. Velasquez, the title has finally been published after more than two years of production.

The book serves as UPIS’ tribute for the centennial celebration of UP High, the first of the laboratory schools of the College of Education. It features the history of the school and its transition from UP High to UPIS. It also pays tribute to the batches and alumni over the years. Several interesting trivia and other untold stories are also included in the memorabilia.

According to Prof. Velasquez, the book also aims to be a fundraiser for UPIS and proceeds from the book will be of help to its future needs.

This limited edition title costs Php 1,000 each. Orders of at least 10 copies will entitle the patron to a 10% discount. Those who are interested may call 929 7797 or 981 8500 loc 4451 and look for Ms. Lita Capones.

UPIS community runs for a cause

The UPIS Centennial Fun Run dubbed “Bagong Siglo, Bagong Sigla, UPIS Takbo Pa!” which also served as a fundraising activity for the UPIS Gymnasium was held on February 7 at the UP Academic Oval.

It was spearheaded by the UPIS Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Board and participated in by the students, alumni, parents, faculty, and staff.

The race is divided into 3 distances, 6.6 km, 4.4 km, and 2.2 km for the high school students, and 600m and 1.1 km for the elementary students.

Senior JB Cuachin finished first in the 6.6, Kyle Ileto of Batch 2019 won the 4.4 km, and Keanne Nuevas of Grade 7 won the 2.2 km. The winner of each category received medals.

The UP Amphitheater, the venue for the program was already filled with excited participants for the Fun Run at around 4:00 AM. Ms. Zyra Brebante, a well-known Zumba instructor, led the warm-up exercise early that morning.

To set the mood, Battle of the Bands 2016 champion Looney Tunes also performed on stage songs by Chemical Romance and Paramore and their original song Noon Hanggang Ngayon. Battle of the Bands runners-up FLL and Amamimamols were also among the performers.

A series of inspiring messages from PTA Board Members, UPIS Principal Dr. Ronaldo M. San Jose, and UP College of Education Dean Dr. Rosario Alonzo filled the entire program after the Fun Run.

The UPIS Pep Squad and the Kadara Capoeira Diliman, a unique Afro Brazilian martial arts group at UP among others presented performances which entertained the participants while waiting for their turn to take part in the Fun Run. / by Zach Jugo, Marianne Sasing
