Feature: Walang Makakapigil! Ulan Ka Lang, Gutom Ako!

8/25/2018 08:24:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

Siguradong mapapa-“Thank God It’s Raining” ka.

3. Champorado
Tag-ulan means “Kakain ako ng champorado ngayon.” And I think that’s beautiful.

Feature: Ang Muling El Bimbo

8/25/2018 08:16:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

https://www.ticketworld.com.ph/Online

Napakasarap balikan ang nakaraan, ‘no?

Nagawa nga nilang malungkot ang kantang With a Smile!

Feature: Ate, What’s the Kahulugan of Idyoma?

8/25/2018 08:12:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

Feature: Buy Bust Review: Ambitiously made and alarmingly relevant

8/25/2018 08:06:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

Photo  source: Viva Films and Reality Entertainment,

Gut-wrenching, chair gripping, and all together, haunting.

These were just some of the words that immediately came to mind after watching Erik Matti’s latest action film, Buy Bust. Most local movies today only care about eliciting small laughs from their audiences and earning big bucks. However, Buy Bust succeeded to stand out due to its notable quality and how it proves that it’s not the typical action flick that can be found in theaters nowadays. Earning an MTRCB rating of R-16, it doesn’t hold back from executing aggressive and brutal fight scenes that can keep you flinching from time to time while at the edge of your seat.

The film stars Anne Curtis as Nina Manigan, a rookie Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency officer who is suspicious of her superior officer’s actions after witnessing her former squad get slaughtered because of an unknown mole in the police force. With her new squad being sent on another high-profile drug “buy bust” operation, they suddenly find themselves trapped inside one of the most dangerous slums in Manila. Terror escalates as they try to escape from the wrath of the drug lords hunting them down, and the anguish of civilians who seek justice for the lives lost due to the war on drugs.

“You don’t know what’s in the district of Gracia ni Maria, when hell was unleashed all evil decided to live there. You can’t tell apart the saints from the sinners,” Teban (Alex Calleja).

Photo source: Viva Films and Reality Entertainment

The film takes place at night in a district called Gracia ni Maria, where houses are closely built, that even the audiences can feel the claustrophobic discomfort the characters are experiencing. This makes the setting look like an unending labyrinth filled with bloodthirsty people waiting around the corner. This keeps the viewers on their toes, awaiting surprise attacks.

Despite the unusual use of slums as a film setting, Matti makes it work with cinematography that takes advantage of the characteristics of the place to make it look visually pleasing. The use of the darkness, tight spaces, and harsh neon lighting in the movie was a great story-telling tool to hide or even emphasize information given to the audience. Aside from this, Matti also took advantage of common items found in slums and creatively integrating it to intense action scenes (you’ll be surprised what a cactus plant, garden hose, and an umbrella can do once you have Nina Manigan-like skills).

Buy Bust isn’t just heavy with action sequences, it is also fueled by a chilling narrative and an impressive performance from each cast member. The movie somewhat feels ambitious because of its over-the-top action sequences, but at the same time it’s grounded because it mirrors the horrors currently happening in our society.

Even Matti said in his Twitter account that his films are never based on the real world, but actually on his own. It is undeniable how the story was so heavily influenced by the current social issues the country is facing, especially in the case of President Duterte’s War on Drugs. Both police and civilians have lost their lives during operations of Oplan Tokhang. Innocent people die and yet the cycle continues as the drug businesses still operate in our country.

It also shows how our current system is anti-poor. Most killed suspects that “fought back” are from the lower class. It is rare to find cases where powerful and rich people such as drug lords and businessmen are involved in the operations. The desperation of our government to solve the country’s drug problem leads to implementation of short term solutions such as killing and busting users without realizing that they should focus more on the people who are actually leading the drug business inside the country.

Photo source: Viva Films and Reality Entertainment
Overall, Buy Bust is a well-made and well-directed film that can be a beacon of inspiration and hope for what Filipino movies should and could be. This also serves as a reminder to everyone who has watched it, to look beyond whatever message is being fed to us. The film clearly wasn’t made to impose solutions to the drug problem but rather just show how much it affects the people caught between the multiple crossfires that has happened or will happen if it does not stop.

Buy Bust is an extremely magnificent movie that might even be the best action-flick in years. Without a doubt, it can be easily classified as a Filipino cinematic masterpiece, making two hours of your life worth it.//by Elane Madrilejo and Drenisse Moleta

Sports: UPISGVT tosses their opponents out in ISAAL

8/25/2018 07:57:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

STRATEGIZE. The University of the Philippines Integrated School Girls Volleyball Team (UPISGVT) huddles during a timeout. Photo credit: Julius Guevarra Jr.

The University of the Philippines Integrated School Girls Volleyball Team (UPISGVT) puts on a spectacular show in the Inter School Athletic and Academic League (ISAAL) held on August 19 and 20 at Kings Montessori School and Hope Integrated School, Quezon City.

The UPISGVT completely dominated in the first day of the event after showing no mercy to their opponents in this year’s ISAAL. In the Under-16 Division, the UPISGVT overthrew St. Raphael Montessori School (SRMS) in a best-of-3 sets, 25-4, 25-8. On the other hand, Coronado’s School of Quezon City Incorporated (CSQCI) put up a good fight but was not enough to stop UPISGVT’s power from ruling the stadium in the Under-18 Division best-of-3 sets, 25-18, 25-21.

Following up the previous day, UPISGVT crushed Mother of Divine Grace Academy (MODGA) before finally calling it a day, 25-15, 25-5, on a rainy afternoon last August 20. UPISGVT gave MODGA a hard time catching up in the first set with their strained coordination and counters until the board flips to a score of 10-4. MODGA silently regained balance but was swiftly shoved away by UPISGVT as they accelerated their pace and shot multiple strikes with Maria Lorraine Cometa on the lead, 25-15.

UPISGVT kept their perfect score alive, 14-0, with Team Captain Trixie Badong’s sharp service aces and spikes in the second set until the numbers progressed yet again to walk away with another victory, 25-5.

Soon after, Covenant Grace School (CGS) was swept by UPISGVT in their third match without breaking a sweat as CGS committed multiple errors followed by Alyssa Avila’s flashy service aces, Bea Lopez’s stunning block, and Ghia Marielle Bartolome’s whistling spike to accumulate a 25-7 in the first set.

UPISGVT’s confidence grew exponentially to finally exploit their enemy’s rhythm in the second set, finishing it off with a terrifying 25-9.

Set-backs also deemed to cling tightly to UPISGVT in their battle against the First City Providential College (FCPC) and Kings Montessori School (KMS). UPISGVT was able to compete with FCPC but came short in the end as FCPC started the day with a 20-25, 21-25 win.

The struggle continued for UPISGVT with KMS’s amusing first set, ending it in a lopsided score of 25-9. KMS started the second set strong, 8-1. However, UPISGVT found their rhythm and the opponent’s big lead disappeared quickly due to unforced errors along with Alliah Omar’s blocks and Giesha Capistrano’s offenses.

With Lopez’s service aces and Avila and Capistrano’s contributions to rallies, UPISGVT was able to close the gap in the second set at 19-19. Omar joined to help the team make the score even at 23 but still fell short as KMS finishes the game, 23-25.

UPISGVT Head Coach Andy Fiel pointed out the overall team’s performance especially on the defensive end of their game. We have a lot of work to do.”

“Next games, kailangan ayos yung blockings namin. Number one ‘yung coordination sa blocking. Second overall, ‘yung defense kailangan gumanda. Kailangan mas mataas ‘yung level of competition. They need to focus more on playing better defense.

Tulong-tulong kami, siyempre gusto namin manalo kaya binigay namin lahat,” Giesha Capistrano said. “Gustong-gusto ko talaga manalo kanina at nag-eenjoy din ako kasama sila,” she added.//by Julius Guevarra Jr. and Gian Palomeno

Opinion: Better than before

8/25/2018 07:51:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

The canteen is one of the most important places in school. It is there that students can quench their thirst, alleviate their hunger, and meet their friends. Faculty and staff likewise can depend on the canteen for all their food and beverage needs. It is imperative then, that it has the best service and facilities so it can accommodate everyone in need of it.

This year, there have been several noticeable changes to the canteen, both in system and facilities.

One of the most noticeable are the fans now spread around the eating area. These were donated by Batch ‘69, and make the canteen space cooler and more breathable, and therefore a more comfortable place to eat in.

Besides that, there are now also CLAY GO or Clean As You Go signs, indicating that students should clean up after themselves when using canteen facilities. This not only teaches the students good manners and keeps the eating area clean, but it also removes the burden of cleaning on canteen staff so that they can serve students food and drink more efficiently.

Concerning waste, the canteen bins are now placed closer together and are clearly labelled for waste segregation. This placement, as compared to before, encourages better the then-existing but poorly implemented segregation policy.

And what’s better than segregated waste? No waste at all!

A new policy by the canteen also encourages students to be more eco-friendly and reduce the waste they generate by charging customers two pesos less for bringing their own containers. This policy not only helps the environment, but also people’s pockets.

There are also new resale products and there are also some that were brought back for better variety of food served for everyone. And because there is an issue of having no food left during lunch, the reservations are only up until 10 am so they could make more for the other students. This aims to serve everyone with adequate amount of food from morning ‘till lunch.

These are small changes, true, but they are already remarkable and deserve praise. They show that the canteen indeed listens to feedback, and that it cares for its customers’ comfort. Not only that, it went beyond what students asked for, and showed that it also cares for its greater social responsibility to the environment and society.

Perhaps some students still find that the canteen is still lacking in some respects. However, changing, even just little by little, is good enough for now. If customer remarks are listened to and always taken into account, and the canteen administration is proactive in their improvement of services, it’ll get us back to better than before.//by Craig Aquino and Marlyn Go

Opinion: On Filipino resilience

8/25/2018 07:45:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

Despite living in a country beset by poverty and corruption, and often struck by natural disasters, one can always expect Filipinos to smile. No disaster or calamity can permanently bring us to our knees.

Recently, heavy rains brought on by the South-West Monsoon caused severe flooding in many parts of northern Luzon. Just as recently, images appeared on social media – and even on mainstream news programmes – showing our countrymen braving storm and flood in their own makeshift ways, all the while wearing that trademark Filipino smile.

How resilient we are.

However, as with nearly everything, there is an appropriate amount: neither too much, nor too little. We Filipinos, it seems, have in our blood far beyond therapeutic levels of resiliency, to a point where it takes a toxic form: complacence.

This complacence is a woe unto our nation – it breeds an inaction augmenting the evils of theft and typhoon and whatever other threat we might face. We do only the bare minimum necessary to overcome what problems befall us – no more.

Take the most recent event: flooding. Many people got stranded on roofs when the floods came. If they needed to get somewhere, they would wrap their shoes in plastic to keep their feet dry, or, if they were more unfortunate, they would need to make rafts. It’s what they did last year too. Also the year before that. And the year before that. And, probably next year as well.

It’s reactionary. Instead of preventing flooding, which is in some cases preventable, people just sew on more patches onto their lives when the floods come a-ripping. They just accept the flooding as a normal part of their lives to be dealt with instead of something preventable.

Of course, this does not apply to all; there have been improvements in flood warning systems and evacuation operations, especially in areas where flooding is nigh unpreventable, such as along the banks of rivers.

Another example of our resilience-nigh-complacency is how we deal with the government. We have long had problems with it, most notably regarding corruption. Despite that, how many actually act against said problems?

Here comes stark our mindset of ‘bahala na’, or ‘hayaan mo na; ganyan talaga ‘yan’. So many let corruption continue because they’ve resigned themselves to the fact that it is a part of our daily lives.

These things we do – how we act – is harmful. It’s akin to taking ibuprofen to relieve a headache caused by brain cancer. The problem is solved temporarily, but it’ll keep coming and coming and we’ll do nothing about it (beyond the ibuprofen, of course).

Bahala na. It’s not like we can blame ourselves. We are a nation for centuries subjugated, by both foreigners and our own countrymen. We were – and are – enslaved, stolen from, and lied to.

What is there left for us to do but to take the beatings given to us, and smile in hopes that they’ll someday end? We have nothing left but our stoicism, that no blow may ever knock us down, and our optimism, that we may not fell ourselves. It is with these that we survive whatever predicament however we can. A workable solution, no?

No. There is a caveat.

French philosopher Gabriel Marcel, in his Sketch of the Phenomenology and the Metaphysics of Hope, started defining hope by four things it was not; two of those are relevant here: hope is not optimism, and hope is not stoicism.

We cannot keep smiling through our problems or stand steadfast against them. Even the hardest rocks are weathered by the waves of the sea. There is no hope in that. We must fight against that sea of troubles.

We must do better, as a nation, for our nation.//by Craig Aquino

Opinion: An abuse of office

8/25/2018 07:41:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

Ramon Tulfo is a journalist. As such, he has a duty to bring information to the people – to inform them of the truth – that they may be empowered as members of society. Many things may be said about him and his questionable beliefs, and many things have been said concerning such.

This article is not about those.

Recently, Tulfo posted a video on Facebook with a caption explaining that his driver ran over a six-year-old girl in Navotas, whom they consequently brought to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) emergency room (ER). He further claimed that ER doctor Jay Guerrero did not want to perform first aid on the girl, saying he did not want it videotaped.

The post, it appeared, was meant to shame the doctor for refusing care.

Instead, he drew the collective ire of doctors, medical practitioners, and even non-medical persons.

Tulfo responded to his critics saying that when they got to the PGH ER, it was in a wet market-like state, with patients lying unattended on the floor. He also said that he originally meant to record only the child for legal reference, the doctor being videotaped only after refusing care. Tulfo further added that the doctors and staff of the ER seemed blunt to their surroundings.

Tulfo’s actions were deplorable.

He made an ER – an already very stressful environment – an even more stressful one. He was verbally abusive towards the doctor and staff, insisting they disregard protocol so that the girl he brought be treated ahead of others who may have needed more urgent care. He videotaped staff and patients without permission, and refused to stop when asked.

He claimed that he was acting for the child run-over’s welfare, but not once did he ask for permission from the child’s – a minor’s – mother whether videotaping was fine. Even more than that, he uploaded the video for public viewing, without the face of the child being censored, in violation of both local and international broadcasting guidelines.

He apologised for his outburst, but refuses to apologise to Dr. Guerrero and the PGH, saying that he made his point clear – that he was concerned for the child. He also refuses to take down the initial video, claiming that it can be a future point of discussion. His reasoning in the former has no merit. His reasoning in the latter partly does. However, a compromise must be made – one cannot simply disregard the rights of a person for academic discussion; ethics must still be observed.

All things considered, he seems to want to portray himself as a man doing good – a hero. In reality, all he has accomplished is to display an inflated sense of ego and self-righteousness.

In the end, he not only harmed the PGH and its staff, but also the journalistic institution as a whole.

His actions show an abuse of the title of journalist. They portray a kind of righteous journalism which the institution does not need right now, especially with so many people – politicians even – casting doubts on it.

Terrible is this attempt to mask his foul deed and tongue with the mantles of journalism and concern. It takes a profession meant to empower people with knowledge, and turns such into a sheep-cloak for Tulfo’s injurious attempt to get special treatment.

No journalist should ever stoop to this level.//by Craig Aquino

8/25/2018 07:38:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

Photo Credit: Ronnie Bawa Jr., Cyrille Villanueva, at Dianne Santos

“Nigger!” “Fagger!” “Your mom’s gay!”

If I had a garlic bread for every existing gender.”

O pang-apat? O panlima? Bakit daw walang ispektrum ng garlic bread? Masyado raw homophobic ang gumawa ng litrato!

Freedom of Speech at Censorship

“Don’t say the N-word,” ‘ika nga nila.

UPIS competes at History Bee

CONCENTRATION. Isip and Sasing think about their answers during the first round of History Bee. Photo Credit: Brenson Andres

Grade 10 students from University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS) participated in History Con Philippines 2018’s History Bee Inter-school Competition on August 11 at the World Trade Center, Manila.

Isabelle Isip and Julianne Sasing represented UPIS in the quiz bee’s high school category which had questions about Asian and World History, Society, and Culture. Sasing was eliminated after the first round, while Isip made it to the top 10 but was cut from the roster of finalists afterwards.

“Preparing for the quiz bee was a challenge but all throughout, it was a good experience and it has helped improve [my] knowledge,” Isip said. For Sasing, the questions that were asked were difficult because some were about American history which was not thoroughly discussed in our curriculum.

This was the first time UPIS participated in History Con’s History Bee. The students themselves volunteered to register after informing the school about the competition. Mr. Brenson Andres, the head of the Department of Social Studies, served as their coach and chaperone.//by Alex Yangco

“Sabi ng coaches to start strong and mag-lead kaming mga seniors.

Literary: The Curiosity Shop of Miss Adelaide Bell

8/18/2018 09:25:00 PM Media Center 1 Comments

Somewhere in between
Heaven and Hell
You will find the quaint little shop
Of Miss Adelaide Bell

“Adelaide Bell’s Curiosity Shop”
I heard some people saying
And many souls, lost and wandering
Often came ‘round buying

You see, this shop is none
Like any other
For Miss Bell only sells
Every type of magic and every superpower

Telekinesis, immortality
Clairvoyance, invisibility
You name it and Miss Bell
Surely will have it ready

As many people get what they wanted
They would also have to pay a price
And for darling Miss Adelaide Bell
That would be: a piece of their lives

She would ask for the love in your heart
Or the happiness you can bring
She’ll demand for the sentiment
Behind a wedding ring

You’ll never feel it
As she takes away a talent or a memory
And when you sign the contract
You’re bound by eternity

Miss Adelaide Bell stands by her products
Indeed you will gain power
But you cannot take back
Anything you gave her

One fine winter solstice
Old man Chaos comes a-running
Into the Curiosity Shop
And asks Miss Bell for something

“Why, that’s rather unusual,”
Proclaimed the dealer.
“But I’ll see what I can do,
Be back here next summer.”

As Miss Bell toiled
For days and nights
For old man Chaos’s request
She was stuck in such a plight

The man came back
At the longest day of the year
And asked Miss Bell
The price for the peddler’s yield

“You don’t have to pay me anything,”
Said Miss Adelaide Bell.
“But you must promise me
Use your power often and well.”

You see, old man Chaos was tired
Ruining one thing after another
It’s getting weary over time
And he longed for slumber

He asked Miss Bell
For something that could do his job
Something small he could carry around
And pet and spoil and feed and lob

So Miss Bell gave him a butterfly
Inside a glass jar, frozen and paralyzed
Wonderfully designed, elegantly made
And Miss Bell instructed:

“Open the jar and breathe into the butterfly
And it will do the rest.”

And a contract bound
Chaos and Adelaide
The man came out of the shop
Happy and satisfied

When he came home,
A dark cloud on top of the world
He opened the jar
And did as he was told

The butterfly came to life
Gave its wings their first flutter
And Chaos heard
One thunder after another

He smiled, for now he could rest
With every flutter of the insect comes
A cataclysmic event occurs
Every being could feel the effect

As the old man slept
Strong storm winds knocked the jar over
And the butterfly escaped
And then flew afar then further and further

Chaos came back to Adelaide
To ask for amelioration
And the woman only gave him a laugh
Thus the man was confused from the derision

“I didn’t make you pay
Because now I get more lives than I ever had
More happiness surrendered
And more sentiment in my cache.

“You, old man, gave me a steady supply
Of things that would keep me alive
For the next hundred eons
As the people on Earth die.”

The old man wept
For he was bound by his word
And promised to look for the butterfly
So he went back to Earth

But all he saw were disasters
Islands splitting in half
Empires falling, diseases spreading
Dictators ruling and volcanoes acting up

What was then controlled madness
Now runs rampant on the streets
As Chaos continues to look for his insect
Its effect all but discreet

The Curiosity Shop
Is still run by Miss Adelaide Bell
But has now expanded her business
All throughout hell

Literary: Sa Aking Pagbagsak

8/18/2018 09:19:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

Walang maisip at walang maramdaman.

Laging nagmumuni-muni sa ’king silid,
Isipan ko’y gulong-gulo.
Buong araw walang kausap,

Mama, Papa, ‘wag ninyo akong alalahanin,

In the midst of the dissonance, the storm and the chaos, I try to find peace.

Everything feels suffocating, there are walls pressing in and incoherent noises.

It’s all my fault, isn’t it?

She was there. Warm, comforting, constant. A refuge. A safe haven from the turbulence.

She was there, at the right time, in the right place. She was bright when my light had turned dim. She was warm when the love I shared with another girl turned cold.

I didn’t mean to.

Things spiraled down. The girl who was my sunshine now feels like a cold breeze at night. We smiled and we sat close, but when I glanced at her – she seemed so much closer, so much warmer, unlike the one actually beside me. I looked away.

Further down. I had so much free time. Time to think. Time to wallow in the darkness of my horrible thoughts. All this time away from the girl who felt like home made me feel lost. The distance seemed more than physical, and I didn’t know what to do. But she was there. We met halfway and found a safe space between each other. I thought maybe she was the blanket who’d comfort me when I was away from home, but this one seemed so much more comfortable than home. I didn’t know what to feel.

Even further down. I can’t look at the eyes I used to be drawn by so much. Sweet words from her tasted bland, but for her – for her, even the most trivial and ordinary of words sounded special. This feeling shouldn’t be shared with her. I feel like suffocating whenever I see the smile I loved so much. I feel like dying whenever I see it genuinely directed at me. I don’t have the right to make her smile like that anymore. I don’t have the right to have her smile at me like that anymore, as if things were healing, as if things were getting better between us. It’s not.

Would have all of this happened if there hadn’t been someone in our time of turbulence? Would we have healed and not let things happen? Would she still have felt like home if I hadn’t met her?

Chaos. Storms. Dissonance. There’s salt in my eyes and bitterness on my tongue. Guilt. Despair. Hate. Was this her fault for being there at the right time and at the right place, or was it my fault for letting it all happen?

Down. Down. Down. I can’t get any lower than this. I look at her properly for the first time in weeks. She’s right to look back at me with apprehension. She anticipated it, but her walls still broke. I broke it. The flimsy handkerchief I try to offer her is a disgustingly useless attempt at an apology. She doesn’t accept it.

Guilt. Fear. Relief. I turn around with a final apology and head back to my new home. To the one whose brightness outshone what used to be my sunshine. To the one whose warmth now envelops me in an attempt to relieve the guilt eating me alive. A whispered “I’m sorry” reaches my ears. I shake my head with a

“No, I’m sorry” and a faint smile as I turn to look at her.

“A, oo. Pasensya ka na, di kita napansin. Sorry.”

“Let us all welcome, our soon to be husband and wife, Mr. Jeffrey Dantes and Ms. Genina Cruz!”

Literary: The Bug Precept

8/18/2018 09:01:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

Once said a foolish man who thought
      He was so very smart:
If you upon a small bug trod,
      The end-times you will start

This Poincaré and Lorenz heard
      And made their guiding lines;
They swore an oath to watch the earth
And sweep it like a Jain

On this they held no compromise,
      Whate’er the air might be;
They’d let the sheep meet its demise,
      On Sabbath willingly

One day they found their brooms were gone,
      And all their food as well;
They needed to the store anon,
      But how without bug-knells?

They thought on this quite long and hard,
What were the two to do?

A trick was found aft’ ponderance
      To solve their current woe:
‘If we instead of treading, prance,
      We won’t upon bugs—’ ‘No!

We cannot take a chance like that
      Risking bugs underfoot;
Instead the two decided that
      Their aim might rolling suit

For this cle’er scheme they themselves praised
      For brilliant it was so;
To the store the two rolled and raced,
      Excited shouting, ‘who-oa!’

Some time thence they thither made it,
      Granting them food and broom;
With that they thought they’d fly and flit,
      A-cackling in the room

Content they were with what they had,
      They headed home anon;

On the way to home noticed they
      A caterpillar lone;
Upon the road it peaceful laid,
      And on it sunlight shone

As sign they saw that haloed light
      That they did smart and good;
They saw a future without plight
      Henceforth from where they stood

Hippocrates abided by
      The pair avoiding gore;
They swept the creature to the side
And let it live some more

‘Twas then a myst’ry man appeared
      Clothed in silver garments;
He wore a mask which screamed afeard,
      P’rhaps to lose his argent?

Unfortunate the pair were though,
      ‘Twas not the man’s concern;
‘Twas future things the man did know
      That made his stomach turn

He spoke, ‘that little bug you rescued there
      Will one day cause the end’;
He spoke of coming future bare
      Of human hope to fend

The two however had their own
      Ideas of times to come;
They truly thought that they had sown
      What might utopia become

The myst’ry man did tarry not
      To take them to his home;
He took the foolish sorry lot
To see what they had done:

They found themselves in future times
      Where ruled a Hitler-bug;
The Hitler-bug a butterfly
      Grandchild of the road-bug

And there they found their good deed was
      Not so good at all.
