alex yangco,
Grade 10 students from University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS) participated in History Con Philippines 2018’s History Bee Inter-school Competition on August 11 at the World Trade Center, Manila.
Isabelle Isip and Julianne Sasing represented UPIS in the quiz bee’s high school category which had questions about Asian and World History, Society, and Culture. Sasing was eliminated after the first round, while Isip made it to the top 10 but was cut from the roster of finalists afterwards.
“Preparing for the quiz bee was a challenge but all throughout, it was a good experience and it has helped improve [my] knowledge,” Isip said. For Sasing, the questions that were asked were difficult because some were about American history which was not thoroughly discussed in our curriculum.
This was the first time UPIS participated in History Con’s History Bee. The students themselves volunteered to register after informing the school about the competition. Mr. Brenson Andres, the head of the Department of Social Studies, served as their coach and chaperone.//by Alex Yangco
