UPIS Gym ready for use


The wait is over.

A brand-new UPIS Gymnasium welcomed the students as they returned for Academic Year 2017-2018.

The fully-operational Gym, which had its soft blessing last August 14, is equipped with Taraflex flooring and facilities for various sports, namely, volleyball, basketball, badminton, and table tennis. Inauguration is yet to be held as installation of sound and security systems, ventilating fans, lockers, and the UPIS seal is still to be done.

Funding for the Gym’s fixtures came from the proceeds of the Centennial Fun Run.

More facilities anticipated

Meanwhile, the dining area of the 7-12 canteen was extended to accommodate more students. The 2nd phase of the extension, this time for the food preparation area, is still underway.

The renovation of the Auditorium is now in its final touches with the bidding of seats and securing of permit to install an air-conditioning system still in progress. On the other hand, renovation of the Bulwagan will take some time due to issues regarding the preservation of the invasive tree.

Roofing and concreting of the pathwalk connecting the Academic Building and Narra Wing has begun.

UPIS Gym first phase eyes October completion



The first phase of construction of the UPIS Gymnasium is expected to finish this October 2016, four months since it commenced last May 26.

The first phase covers the foundation, walls, columns, and roof of the gymnasium. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) funded the expenses of construction through the P10 million benefaction of Cong. Sonny Belmonte. RE Orlina Construction Corp. is the chosen contractor.

The second phase of construction is set to begin immediately and is expected to conclude in February. It shall cover the remaining parts of the gymnasium such as the lockers, flooring, and bleachers. Senator Chiz Escudero subsidized P15 million for this stage.

Construction was first scheduled in March but was delayed due to budget complications.

7-12 canteen at permanenteng power supply, natapos na

Nitong buwan ng Agosto, magkasabay na natapos ang pagpapa-renovate ng Grade 7-12 canteen at ang paglalagay ng permanenteng power supply sa 7-12 Building ng UPIS.

Sa tulong ng Administration Office, pormal na binuksan sa mga mag-aaral ang Grade 7-12 canteen nitong Agosto 13. Inabot rin ng halos dalawang taon ang pagpapaayos ng nabanggit na pasilidad sapagkat kailangan din nitong dumaan sa proseso ng bidding na sinusunod sa buong UP system.

Sa kasalukayan, ang kooperatiba na binubuo ng mga guro at staff ang siyang namamahala sa canteen sa ilalim ng pamamatnubay ng Departamento ng Sining Praktika na pinangungunahan ni Prof. Nancy Flor.

Sa tulong naman ng Office of the Campus Architect (OCA), nalagyan na rin ng permanenteng power supply ang 7-12 building mula sa Meralco. Ngayong may maayos at permanenteng supply na ng kuryente ang gusali, hindi na magkakaroon ng “power tripping” bunsod ng kakulangan ng wattage. Hindi na rin kinakailangan pa ng rationing o pagsasalitan sa paggamit ng kuryente sa mga gusali.

Sa pagtatapos ng paggawa ng canteen at paglalagay ng power supply, hihintayin namang maisaayos ang Gym, Auditorium, at ilang silid sa ikaapat na palapag ng Academic Building. / Enzo Bautista, Chesca Santiago
