Literary: My Light

Denial
Been telling myself this is all a weird dream,
hoping and praying you’d be there when I wake.
Pinching myself doesn’t work, it seems,
still in this dream, my heart is starting to ache
What a nightmare this would be
if this is actually reality.

If this is real life, I am not ready,
that can’t be your last breath,
you cannot leave me.
My body losing all its strength,
I never knew death was this heavy,
please, my mother, just wake up already.

Anger
All the silence and the pain,
now transformed into sorrow
I want to scream; my frustrations, I cannot contain.
My faith in life, suddenly turned zero,
If life is fair, how is it that no one can explain,
why good people die, and the evil remain?

Of all the people in this cruel world,
why does it have to be you?
How is it fair that you, who only helped, are gone,
while the selfish get to live their life through?
In this unjust society of today,
do you have to be cruel like them, to get to stay?

Bargaining
You were once the very definition of perfection and much more
You are my sun during the day
Both the moon and stars that illuminate my night
You are my light—you were once my light
With your absence my days have been bleak
Each day dull, very monochromatic

Gods who denied me of laughter
Now, you’re even depriving me of myself
Hear my prayers, ohh gods of heaven
Grant me a few more months, weeks, or even just a day
Lend me my light that I may find the will to live
Before I find myself succumbing to the call of death

Depression
I lie awake long into the night, confined in solitude
Separated from everything that is bright
The salty smear of tears evident on my sleep-ridden eyes
My only companion, darkness.
Every nook, each cranny, even the crevices are pitch black
Mirroring the thoughts that are slowly devouring my mind.
But I deserve this, this is the punishment warranted for my kind

No longer will I point fingers where they’re not due
It is I, who is to blame for the ceasing of my light
The signs were lining up before my eyes
Screaming for attention, begging to be noticed.
But my foolish self was deeply occupied by things so trivial
That I failed to heed your cries
It was I who failed you

Acceptance
Maybe this world is just not suited, for a lady of your caliber
You are better off in the heavens
Sitting alongside the angels and the almighty himself
It is selfishness to keep your luster contained
To keep the light all for myself
When you’ve always been destined for greatness

There is no night without a dawning
Every chapter has its end
But your presence will always remain
Etched in my heart is your existence
You will always be my light
May it be in this lifetime or the next

Literary: Abandoned Home

The old house stands alone and abandoned
A place where life used to thrive.
Its rooms and hallways, which once echoed with laughter,
Are now void of any sound.

If only these empty rooms could give up their secrets
So many stories I'm sure they would tell
Of my once-vibrant home
And the childhood that I simply cannot let go

My memories begin to clutter
Unknowingly, I’m brought back to a pathway
Hearing a familiar sound, a mutter of a lawnmower
That used to keep this place prim, proper

However, what used to be a well-trodden path to the doorway
Has completely vanished from the sight of its former owners
Now overgrown with the passing of time
Seemingly a jungle of tall grass

The garden where, as kids, we would play
Savoring the cool breeze of wind while on my favorite swing
The bright morning sky beaming, mirroring my toothy smile
Now only a broken swing and memories remain

In this monochromatic quarter
I used to lay in deep sleep, when the clock struck nine
My dreams filled with rainbows and unicorns
Peaceful, content in my little haven

Now it lays silent, forlorn and bare
My dreams confined in its four corners
The only witness is its silent borders
And its shattered boarded-up windows

The old house now stands abandoned
Derelict, forgotten, alone
Locked inside are my childhood dreams
My laughter, my innocence

My feet stir against the dust
As I take one last glance
I slowly come to a realization
I know that I, too, must leave this house

However difficult it might be
It's still a comfort to know that wherever I go
I will forever have memories, stories
That I would never need to let go of

Despite the faded paint
Its colors will always stay vibrant
Every corner of each room
Every edge, vivid

And it will forever remain that way
For as long as I remember
For as long as I do not fail to forget,
This abandoned house will always be my home.
With its stories kept hidden inside my head.

Literary: Luminous

I've always found comfort in solitude
Comforted by my lack of companion
Above me, the vastness of heaven
No moon, no light
Just darkness, a starless sky

A familiar song, as if on cue,
I find fingers strumming the strings of a guitar.
The tune speaks of pain,
Of the sorrow, of the loss,
Of all my silenced inhibitions

The chords are my escape
The vibrations, windows of my soul
My lack of words is compensated
With the melodies, deep, clear, and slow.

I just love how it makes me feel,
But there's no way this delusive contentment is real.
Because despite my euphonious pleas
There is not a single soul willing to heed

The night is dark
And so are thoughts clouding my head.
I find myself suffocating
Hit by a whirlwind of emotions

Just then,

A breath of air, a cool gentle breeze
Caressing, soothing me
As if prompting
My breathing that has stilled

Out the corner of my eye, I notice
An inspiring orange light of dawn,
Its cheerful glow fills the void in my heart
And takes me to a tranquil fantasy.

Unknowingly,
I find my fingers beginning to strum
A tune I find very odd
But there is magic in the mellow tone

Because for the first time
I truly feel at ease
As if being held in the arms of rhythm
Bewitched by serenity

Gone are the darkest of nights
Now, turned into the finest gleam of sunlight
Accompanied by a hopeful strum of my guitar
This, I would never trade for solitude

Literary: A Grim Twilight

This monochromatic confinement has always been my haven
The four-cornered depiction of dullness
Reeking of antiseptic.
My pale complexion,
Complementing the faded sheets of my deathbed.

My only source of light,
The chilly fluorescents gleaming
And a constant visitor
Stalling my impending end.

For a decade I’ve wondered
If pills and stitches hold the answer,
To finally escape the constraints of this sickness
And see the colors even just for a day

However, the reaper always comes for his dues...
At the time you least expect it
In between the sun descending and the moon rising,
That twilight, when the sky turns into the darkest shade of blue,
When the infant moon
Reflects off razor-sharp steel…

Psychedelic laughter echoes.
The hooded figure starts chanting my name
An agonizing lullaby
Singing me to eternal slumber.

As death himself approaches,
I find myself drowning in his hollow sockets.
His chant continues
Accompanied by shrieks and cries.
No matter my pleas, he will never withdraw.
The owner of the night looks down
The grin on his lips
Almost in contact with my quivering ones.

“I’ve come from Hell for you,” he whispers into my ear.

As his foul, rotten stench envelops me, caresses me…
On my knees, I beg him not, yet he refuses.
I feel the warm wetness of blood trickle down my leg…
I feel his cloak surround me, as if it were mine, I wear it…
And I taste the maggot-ridden air of his being.

As I listen to the weakening beat of my heart
Seemingly a pendulum of a worn-out clock
I am hit by an overwhelming wave of nostalgia,
A vivid picture of a haven that I took for granted.

Now I wish for nothing but to return
Back to my monochromatic confinement
To savor the reek of antiseptic
Even to lifelessly lay on my deathbed

Literary: A Mind Captive of the Unknown

Do you know the easiest way
to be set free
from the thoughts of all
the things that could be?

The easiest way
to let everything go
and for once accept
there are still things we don’t know?

The masterplan
to finally escape
the cloud of questions
that keeps us awake?

I just want answers to stop me
from thinking too much
about the what if’s,
maybe’s, I wish, and such

To be free of the weight
That holds us down,
That keep us awake,
That threatens to drown

Is to accept.

That not a mind filled with worries,
For what is to come,
Nor the shadow of regret
For what could’ve been done

Would help you escape from the cloud of questions
Nor will it free you from your hallucinations

Rather, you must embrace reality
that the world as you know it, is merely
A cloud of illusions
Filled with nothing but inhibitions

Open your eyes
Marvel at the beauty of the world filled with uncertainty
For surely there are far greater things
That your mere eyes have yet to see
A future that even your clever mind can never foresee

Literary: To question fear

Why do we fear the future?
A period of never-ending venture
Straight to a field of green, green pasture
Or maybe into the realms of agonizing torture

Well, the future’s uncertain
and different for all
It’s a blurred out mystery,
a closed metal door with tall walls

Then why do we fear mystery?
As if a fairytale full of secrecy
As we read each line page by page
We silently anticipate, a foretelling from a century-old sage
We await for what could be, a princess's happily-ever-after
Or possibly even a tragic end, courtesy of the evil stepmother

I guess it’s because of the feeling we get
when we feel unsure, scared, or upset
We anticipate silently, but our mind speaks to us out loud
as if it spends every second figuring things out
Even when we don’t know how things would end,
it’s part of our nature to play pretend
that we’re sure although we’re truly afraid
of possible mistakes that could be made
So it’s not really mystery we fear
but the presence of the unknown making things seem unclear

Then why do we fear the unknown?
As we traverse to a mysterious world of our own
To a land that has yet to be sown
Its never-ending skies where men have never flown
A vast ocean, where even great ships were never rown

Maybe because we see the unknown
as a dooming place where danger is prone
It’s full of risks that are too big to take
and bottling thoughts that keep us awake

So what is the root of all fear?
Possibly the things very much unclear
Mystery much like an empty canvas, unpainted
The unknown, its anonymity never have been tainted
And the future that has yet to be molded

You’re not wrong about the three things you said,
but the root of all fear could just be in the head
of whoever feels like there is something to fear
and tries to seek too much of what isn’t here
Instead of focusing on what’s in front of them now,
some ask too much about the why’s and the how’s
of the things that can’t be seen and can’t be controlled,
thus giving them another fear to hold

Literary: Felicitous Haven

The carnival of carefree play
Sits atop a mountain
Branded "Felicitous Haven"

A pair of young lovers
With their hands intertwined
Their bodies entwine
Two pairs of innocent eyes twinkling
At a scenery, very much enchanting

The carnival, seemingly a kaleidoscope of colours in an artistic display

A colored carousel
Fashioned with bright streamers
The glaring neon lights
And the ever-so-frightening roller coaster

The luscious taste of candy apple
Its aroma, a very tempting scent of maple
The softness of cotton candy
Its sugary taste that comes very handy
As people go around merrily
Their faces painted with nothing but glee

Caught in a moment so surreal
The captivating music of the violin impels their bodies to dance
Lanterns seemingly pouring their gleaming brilliance

The beating of the drums resonates across the carnival
Their hearts thump in tune with the beating—
To what seems to be a beating of the never-ending drums

The never-ending beating of the drums

However—

The festivities along with all their majesty
Suddenly come to a complete halt

Nothing—
But deafening silence

All the violins cease
The music that impelled their feet to dancing
To the giddy dance of passion--
Silent are the violins

All the lanterns now are darkened
The lanterns that once poured their streaming brilliance
On the masquerades and murmurs--
Darkened now are all the lanterns

The picture takes them both aback
For the image begins to shift, completely turns black

Illusions fade, blue skies turn grey,
What once seemed certain,
Has dropped defeated, dreams fray

Now however,

The carnival
Has long since stripped its careless way
Coined senseless, nothing but child's play
Young love branded merely as innocence
The very embodiment of imprudence

A distant memory
Was the carnival of carefree play
The carnival that was once "Felicitous Haven"

Literary: Ano, Sino, Saan, Kailan, Bakit?

Kinagabihan habang ang tulog ay mahimbing,
Naliligaw sa sariling kathang-isip
Kuryosidad ay tumataginting
Nakapagtatakang panaginip

Sisimulan ko sa aking nakita
Lilang-bughaw na kalangitan ang eksena
Hamog na may pinagtatakpan
Ano ang ikinukubli nitong kahulugan?

Napag-alaman kong may sapa
