Literary: How I'll Leave a Mark

Most people want a legacy
Like a hero
To whom people have built a shrine,
Adored, loved, and known by everyone.

Or a person with pride like a lion
Feared, brave, superior,
Someone with distinct presence and nobility.

It may sound like nonsense to some
But I’d like to be different from others

I want a legacy
Where people will never forget me
Not because they had built me a shrine
Not because I am feared by everyone
But
Because I am someone who’s not perfect,
I am someone who accepts others’ glitches.
Someone who makes mistakes,
And someone who can forgive.

A person laced with gracefulness
And known to have the beauty of a good heart.
A person that has stained people’s faces with a smile
And was known to spread the splendor of kindness

And that’s how
I want to leave a mark
On the people all around me.

Literary: Forbidden

There’s something appealing
About the forbidden.
Something that attracts us,
Something that endangers us, too.

It draws us to it like a magnet,
As it fills us up with temptation.
Hands become jittery,
As our dazed minds think of the consequences.

But amidst the battle inside your mind
A choice should be made,
And in the end,
You choose to take a risk.

Because we know that
With the forbidden,
The greater the risk you take
The bigger the prize you’ll get.

Literary: Lies upon Lies

Have you ever looked at the mirror and realized,
Instead of seeing yourself,
You see a different person.
A person everyone thinks you are
But a person you know you’re not.

I thought it’d just be a matter of time
And I’d learn to get used to it.
But living your whole life pretending,
Lying to everyone and to yourself,
Can be tiring, too.

I wish I could tell someone
But how, if nobody cares?
Well, I thought,
Nobody should know
Because I’m no different;
They’re just sullen thoughts
From my pensive mind.
Aside from that,
I am normal
Or at least,
I can be.

So, I kept lying:
I force a smile,
Instead of letting tears run down my face.
They hear laughter,
Instead of my sorrow and agony.
I’ve been tough and ecstatic,
Instead of being vulnerable and despondent,
The real me.
I kept on fooling myself,
By telling everyone “I’m okay”,
Even if I’m really not.

Concealing all of my lies
By simply putting on a fake smile.

I kept on going…
With great courage
And hope.
With positive insights
And ravishing thoughts,
But I lied again.
‘Cause the sad truth is:
I am tired.
I am a coward
And pathetic.
I am impuissant
With lethal thoughts.
I want to give up;
But I did not.
Because I must live.
I need to.
I keep forcing myself
Because the pain won’t last
It’ll be alright
And perfect!
I’ll be happy
‘Cause I can
And I am

Another lie.

Literary: Those Moments

The moment we first met
When I first saw the intensity in your eyes,
I knew I should’ve just ran away and saved myself
Because I knew that you’ll do me no good
But maybe I was just being cynical
So, I did otherwise.

The moment we unfolded
The feelings we’ve been holding back
I knew I didn’t want to commit,
Because I knew that you’ll only break me
But I know I should take chances
So, I let you break my heart.

The moment I got to know
The things you should have been telling me
I knew I should’ve conceded,
Because I knew you’re just deceiving me,
But I know it was just to test us
So, I chose to be strong.

The moment I decided
That I already wanted to leave
I knew I couldn’t take any more of it
Because I knew something was wrong
We couldn’t fix it and I already gave up
But you asked for a second chance
So, I gave it to you and stayed.

The moment I became a pathetic mess
I unwillingly pushed you away
Because I knew you wouldn’t waste your time understanding
And I knew that you’d just go away and leave
But you were the one who pulled me closer,
Held me together and made me whole again.
So, I dismissed my doubts and presumptions.

And then the moment came that I realized
The choices I made were very unlike me.
I knew from the start that you weren’t my type,
Because I know you’d turn my world upside down.
You pushed me out of my comfort zone,
And made me do crazy things
But you showed me the beauty of the other side
And proved to me that all the risks were worth it

Literary: Love Scheme

None of the words that come out of his mouth are true
Nor that “genuine” gentleman he shows you
They were just made to lure you
Or worse, to make a fool out of you.

I made sure to list it all down
So that you won’t fall for another mischievous clown

First,
You would think you have a chance
When he flashes his most captivating smile
That’ll make your heart freeze and your mind crazy

Second,
You would think he’s into you
When he holds your hand so gently
That’ll make you feel that it was made only for you

Third,
You would think he’s serious about you
When he starts to make prosaic promises
That’ll make you think of living a fairytale

Fourth,
You would think he’s in love with you
When he starts saying those three magic words
That’ll make you fall for him even more

And fifth,
When it’s your turn to confess what you feel
He would smirk at you and make you realize
That he’s had his fun
And now it’s over.

Literary: It Was a Matter of Time

Six years ago
We thought that we would last
We thought we had it all
We thought that we were enough

Two years ago
You said you’d never leave
I thought that you were right
That we’d have each other’s back

Something came up
You never had the guts to apologize
Because you said it was nothing

You didn’t say a thing
Complete nothingness filled the gaps
You made for the past 6 years

And yesterday
I tried to make it work
I tried to talk it out
I tried to be strong
I tried not to cry
I tried

Yesterday
I let you go
I thought that it was the right thing to do
I know I’ll never be enough

After a month
I told myself, “There’s no turning back now”
Even though I know I was wrong
When I wanted us to go our separate ways

After a year
Something came up and I went to you
I had the guts to explain myself
But you said it was nothing

After two years
I told you I still love you
But I was left speechless
When you just walked away without saying a word

After six years
I tried to make you mine again
I tried to talk to you
I tried to be strong
I tried not to cry
I tried.

Literary: Be You

A modern way to paint
Where your face is the canvas.
A palette of colorful make-up
You use to cover your natural beauty
To hide its innocence and purity,
To conceal the flaws they use against you.

A phony beauty pageant
Where you walk like a runway model.
But little do they know,
Behind that perfect body
Is a starving, suffering woman
Trying to fit into society’s definition of beauty

A bluff act of camaraderie
Where you show your stagy, fake self
Around a conceited circle of friends
Picking and browbeating on others
To be part of the popular clique.
To be accepted for who you’re not.

A false video game
Where you are the star
You let others have control over you
Because you think what they say is right.
Disregarding what you really want
To be far from someone you once knew.

Why would you want to change yourself
When you’ve got something that they don’t?
You’re unique, special in your own way
And that’s something they can’t take away.

Why would you try to be someone else?
When your flaws and weaknesses make you stand out
Not because they define you
But because you can overcome them.

So, it’s time
To put that maquillage off
Your face is too beautiful
To cover with make-up colorettes

It’s time
To gain a few pounds
Your body is precious
So, you better take care of it.

It’s time
To let go of that untidy, crazy you
You are truly special
So be proud of it.

It’s time
To start to make a change
You are one of a kind
So don’t be ashamed of just being you

Literary: Right Time

I thought I already had it
The thing everybody dreams of having
The thing I wanted since I was a child
Eternal, everlasting, endless love

But I was wrong
What I had was what everybody’s afraid of having
The feeling I never wanted to feel
Painful, heartbreaking, unrequited love

It broke me and tore me to pieces
Tried to put it back together, still nothing changed
It took some time for me to heal
Especially since I thought what I had was real

We cannot stop anything from going away
Even if we begged for it to stay
Maybe some things are just temporary
We don’t really know what stays permanently

“Everything happens for a reason,” they say
We get hurt, but you’ll learn, anyway
It may not be exactly what we want it to be
But the best is yet to come, trust me

I have accepted that
Everything has its perfect timing
I may not even see it coming

I just need to wait and I’ll find
The right person
At the right time

Literary: Thesis It!

Chapter I
Introduction

I. Background

Vince Jimenez and Michelle Soriano, you’ll be working with each other on your thesis for the whole school year (Ms. Santos, 2015). I never thought that the words Michelle and Thesis could be in one sentence. I don’t know if this should make me happy or devastated, but I couldn’t be more thankful for this opportunity.

II. Statement of the Problem and Objectives

This research aims to find out if “you” and “me” can become an “us” during the course of thesis work. Specifically, this study seeks to answer the following questions:
1. Can I get to know you better?
2. Can I talk to you?
3. Can I make you fall in love with me?

I guess the main problem is I don’t know how to talk to you. You’ve been my crush since kindergarten and the only decent conversation we had was when I asked to be your partner in our Creative Writing class. Long story short, you ended up with Mr. Perfect, Ryan, while I had Bad Breath Abby. And trust me, I don’t want that to happen again.

I don’t know what to do. Really. I guess I’ll just let the universe do its thing.

Chapter II
Review of Related Literature

Hours have passed and we haven’t done a thing. At least I got to know you and how you’ve been since the last time we’ve talked. I didn’t talk too much because I enjoyed watching and listening to you rant about your exes. I secretly took notes on the do’s and don’ts of dating you.

I learned that you’re truly special and your ideal date is far different from those of other girls I’ve dated.

I was caught off-guard when it suddenly became silent and everything was clear to me. At that moment, I realized I’ve fallen for you even more.

Chapter III
Methodology

Believe it or not, it was not hard for me to think of methods for you to notice me. At the age of 10, I graduated with Latin honors at the Academy of Daydreaming, and that’s where I devised a master plan that I knew would work. The only problem was, one, my parents didn’t allow me to have plastic surgery, and two, puberty doesn’t seem to want to hit me.

My plan for now is to get you out on a date with me and so far, these are my options:

Option 1: Ask you, straight to the point (but Courage the Cowardly Dog is my spirit animal)
Option 2: Ask you to a “Thesis Meeting”
Option 3: Pray to God that you’ll ask me out instead

I think I’ll go with Option 2.

Why do you look sad? (Jimenez, 2015)
My friends ditched me, we’re supposed to go to the Battle of the Bands, I don’t want to go alone (Soriano, 2015).
That sucks, but that’s life (Jimenez, 2015).
Do you have any plans tonight? Would you mind coming with me? (Soriano, 2015)
Are you asking me out on a date? (Jimenez, 2015)
Whatever you call it. So are you coming or not? (Soriano, 2015)
I guess I’ll pick you up at 6 PM. Don’t be late or I’ll ditch you too. Kidding. (Jimenez, 2015)

Well, Option 2 didn’t work out. I guess God loves me so much. I better start preparing now.

Chapter IV
Presentation of Results and Analysis

Time check: 2:37 AM

Here I am still lying on my bed, trying to sleep ‘cause I still can’t believe what happened earlier. Call me Mr. Shallow, but you wouldn’t understand ‘cause I just went on a date with the girl I’ve liked since we were practically babies.

The moment I saw her come out of her house, the world stopped, and it was just the two of us. She wore a t-shirt of her favorite band matched with plain old jeans, but still she looked like a princess, MY PRINCESS.

The concert already started when we arrived. We were just in time for her favorite song. Her eyes were filled with glee; I’ve never seen her that happy before. I noticed that she was getting tired of standing on the tips of her toes, so without giving it a second thought, I carried her and let her sit on my shoulders. I was nervous ‘cause maybe she’d find it awkward and uncomfortable. A few songs after the fact, she asked me if I was okay (I was super tired, actually). I told her I was fine, but deep inside I was ecstatic. I took her home and she kissed me on the cheek. It felt like heaven.

Time check: 3:51 AM.

I better sleep and stop reminiscing.

Chapter V
Conclusion and Recommendation

I think I have a chance.

Go for it.

Defense

Big day today. I never thought I’d come the point when I’d confess my feelings for you. I don’t even care if you reject me, all I want is to let you know how much I like you.

THESIS IT.

Literary: For the Last Time

Months have passed
Still, here I am
Writing something about you
Again.

It’s been a while,
I know I should stop.
But my hand can’t stop itself;
It won’t stop writing about you.

I remember how your voice sent shivers all over me,
When you whispered sweet words into my ears.
But then I felt something sting my heart
As I recalled how you so bluntly said, “Let’s end this.”

I admit that I miss you.
All the tears we shed,
All the happy memories we made,
All the times we said, “I love you.”

But I miss my old self even more.
The one who didn’t cry every night,
The happy girl everyone used to see,
The one who wished she had never met you.

I have wasted too much time
Thinking about where I went wrong.
Then I realized I wasn’t at fault
Because it was you all along.

After all, I don’t regret anything.
I may have changed a lot, have been broken a lot,
But it was to give myself a chance
To be a better version of what I once was

It took so long,
But at least I learned to let go.
Just give me some time
And I’ll be fine.

Months have passed
And yes, here I am
Writing something about you
For the last time.

Literary: If I Could

If I could build a rocket
And leave everything behind,
The way you bid me goodbye
Without saying the reason why,
I would.

If I could stare into the sky
The way I used to stare into your eyes
That unlocked the inscrutable mysteries
Behind your lying tongue,
I would.

If I could be the gravity
That keeps me together,
The ‘me’ that you chose to break into pieces
So that you could start all over again,
I would.

If I could fill up the spaces
You left black and blank
With the bursting colors of the galaxy,
Like the stupendous future we could’ve had,
I would.

You used to be all that I revolve around,
My happiness, my everything, depended on you.
But now I see myself as my own sun,
Laughing and reliving life.

Now the universe for me,
No longer means “you.”

Literary: Passerby

It was not so long ago
When I first met you
But now you need to go
And I’ll have to let you

You said it’ll be us against the world
But you ended “us” with just three words
I thought we have that thing called “forever”
But it comes out to mean “never”

Some things you said,
Were better left unspoken.
The promises you made,
Were meant to be broken.

Maybe I held on too much
Or maybe I have always known that
We were meant to find each other,
But never meant to be together.

Literary: Someday

I know it’s hard
To live while we’re apart
But nothing will change
It’s still you I’m certain of

It hurts when I can’t do anything
To comfort you when you cry
But I promise you this:
I’ll never leave, I’ll always stay

For when I close my eyes
It’s you I see
When I lose hope
You believe in me

You said that in time
Our hearts will find each other
We just have to wait
Because it will be worth it

So even though we are parted
By a thousand miles
My heart will still find a way
To make it home to you
Someday.

Literary: Love Hues

I have this painting in my mind
That I want to come to life
It’s something that is one of a kind
Something that has us in mind

I will start by filling my palette
With the colors that would fit
Colors that we’ll need the most
To make things work between us

Red is for our love for each other
And blue for the fights and tears that come after
Yellow for the excessive happiness you cause
And black for the lies you say every time you pause

Green for the anger and unwanted jealousy
And orange for not giving up on me
Gray for the hair we’ll have as we grow older
And white for the path we'll follow together

There are so many colors around
But these are the ones that I have found
That would perfectly fit my work of art
For it all came from my heart

Literary: Four Phases of Love

Storge
He was the one who was always there
He showed how much he cared
He listened to anything I shared
He stayed by my side so I won't get scared

He never failed to make me happy
He cheered me up when I am teary
I consider myself lucky,
To have a friend like him.

Phileo
One call and I'm there for her
To show my endless love and care
There are a lot of memories we shared
To leave her side, I cannot bear

Her smile makes my day
I do my best to make her feel okay
Even though I've done all these things
I know just friends we'll always be

Eros
I never realized how beautiful your eyes are
You never fail to make me feel like a star
I think I can fly when I'm with you
Together, I feel we are the perfect two

There’s something special in the way you talk to me
Just seeing you even from a distance makes my day
I’m confused can someone please give me a clue
Because I think I'm falling in love with you

Agape
I promise to give you the stars and moon
You’re the strings attached to my guitar and we're perfectly tuned
I promise to never hurt you and to make you happy
Cause I love you really

All my efforts didn't go to waste
You are totally worth the wait
Thank you for giving me another chance
I hope to be your first and last dance

Literary: Back to May

I was alone for so long
But one May night
When nothing was alright
You came along.

I didn’t know what was happening
But the feeling was overwhelming.
Though I was still doubting
I can’t stop myself from falling.

You made me listen to that song
Saying hurting a girl is very wrong.
Love her, protect her like your royal highness.
That’s when you called me your own princess.

Storms of conflict went our way
We faced challenges day after day.

I said forever doesn’t really exist.
You said, “In us I’ll always believe.”
So just when I thought everything was over,
My heart made me remember.

So I will never forget those days.
I will always go back to our memories of that May.
