Literary: A Part of Me

I have stumbled upon
The greatest trials life has had to offer
And yet I am here, still.

I was bullied.
In fourth grade.
People kept calling me fat
Because of the way
My tummy wrinkled whenever I sat
And the way
My flabs bounced in beat when I ran.
I used to hate myself.
But then I realized, fat does not mean ugly.
I have learned to accept the way my body works, moves, and looks.
I am beautiful.

I was broken.
In sixth grade.
My friends told me
It was not the end of the world
But why did it feel like
My
World
Had shattered when my man left?
I will not deny how hard it was for me, but I got through it.
It was never easy growing up without a father
But in his absence, I have found His presence.

I was judged.
In seventh grade.
Others looked at me as a girl
Desperate for someone to love her.
A woman who needed a man to survive.
Was it because I had guy friends
And that I constantly showed them how much I value
The companionship they give
Despite all the cracks in my personality?
Or was I really just flirty,
And desperate?
But no. I was not.

I was alone.
In ninth grade.
Have you ever felt alone
Even though you have people around you?
I had friends—
Physically.
But I never felt like I had
True ones.
I ate lunch alone. I went home alone.
But I have learned to carry myself
And not depend on anyone.
I became strong.

I was lost.
I believe, all my life, I had been.
But I have been finding myself
Piece by piece
In every tragic series that I go through.
But I have lost so much
That I have mastered the art of losing.

Now, enter my heart.
Show me good things that I will never forget.
Feed me with butterflies,
Bring me to the stars.
Then, leave me
And I will give you a share
Of the only thing I have kept and will never lose
The endless trail I have been walking
No one will ever know me as a whole
Because all I can give is a piece
And you, are now a part of me—

My story.
My legacy.

Literary: To a Love Like What We Had

To take a risk
Is to allow oneself
To lose something valuable
In order to keep another

And I would like you to know
That I am willing to give
As much as I am willing to take
To keep you with me

For this love is made of choices
That intertwined our souls
And we are built by the chances
That we took for us to be one

As long as there are choices
That I am to make
As long as there are risks
That I am to take

This heart of mine
Which I vow to be yours
Will stay strong

‘Til all boundaries
Are no longer a hindrance
To a love like what we have

Literary: Parts of Me

Lips
I will speak with all but sumptuous words
Only to leave you in silence
The words from your lips will crumple
And as you spit them out, your tongue will pull them back

Eyes
I will stare blankly into your eyes
As you let me break you into pieces
And you will have to put yourself back together
As I watch you do so

Heart
Tame, I may seem, but I am only holding back
From verbalizing what I truly feel
And so this heart of mine will only repress
Whatever you want to express

Senses
I have lost my passion to feel, as if I’ve nothing but malice
I will make you feel numb without my touch
And my mind will try to connect to yours
Unconsciously asking for forgiveness

Conscience
There is some good, but I choose to be cynical
For I believe that there is no eternal happiness
And so you will have to wake me up
And make me see the beauty I have failed to heed

Soul
My soul has departed from my body
So I will ask you to share parts of yours with me
And slowly you’ll forget how it is to live
For you have already lived your life for me

Would you still take these parts of me even if it means losing parts of yourself?

Literary: What Is Love?

I often ask,
“What is love?”

“God is love.”
“Love is unconditional.”
“Love is patient, love is kind...”-

People have often mistaken love
As a wonderland
Where everything is always full of joy
And the affection is never-ending

But these are definitions
That only a fool would believe.

I, myself have been a fool
Thinking love is a game
Where winning is ending up with her
And losing means playing again with someone else

And then someone told me
That above all definitions
There is one that sums it all up-
“Love is a commitment.”

A commitment
It is “an engagement”
Or “an obligation
That restricts freedom of action”

A commitment
Is a long-term relationship
That requires
Endless sacrifice

One thing I’ve learned is

Love isn’t always there.
In the long run, it will fade
But if you’re committed
You will always choose to stay.

Literary: Pangako

Labag man ito
          sa nais ng puso ko,
Tuluyan ng lilisan
          sa buhay mo.

Literary: YOUniverse

I saw the whole universe with my own eyes

I see dazzling stars gleaming
Every time I look into your eyes
It twinkles with a spark of hope
Filling my soul with joy

I see the colors of the galaxy
With stardust that glitters
Bursting through your hands
Painting my life with vivid hues

I see the sun in vibrant yellow
Reflecting your sublime smile
And I melt as I move closer
To the very core of your heart

I see the glow of the moon
That lights the night sky
In zero gravity we fly together
To the ends of the galaxy

And in one orbit lies all the planets
That align when we hold hands
I am overwhelmed by the surreal feeling
That surrounds me when I’m with you

I saw the universe
With my own eyes

And that is you.

Literary: Will You?

Do you promise to give me light
Even if I bring you darkness?
When I lose my spark of hope,
Will you keep me bright?

Do you promise to embrace me
Even if I am filled with thorns?
When I am letting go,
Will you hold me tight?

Do you promise to stay
Even if I push you away?
When I am troubled,
Will you not let me stumble?

Do you promise to stay true
Even if I hurt you?
When my heart stops beating,
Will you still love me?

Literary: A Place to Stay

My mind loves to travel,
To imagine places I want to visit.
But of all the destinations,
My favorite is your cradle.
For when I am with you,
I am calm, I am home.

My eyes keep searching,
Looking for an abode
Where I can humbly stay
And be myself without pretentions.
It is by your side
That I don’t have to hide.

My body is tired
And it needs somewhere to rest.
In your arms I lie,
Safe and sound,
And the tranquility of things
Lulls me to sleep.

My soul is lost
And I have been wandering
Down the streets, across towns,
Clueless and blank.
But when I found you,
My heart found one place
Where it can stay
Always.

Literary; Dear Me x Sincerely Me

Dear Me
Barsiti

Remember when you were happy?
When you always convinced yourself that you’re lucky?
I wish I could see you again, I miss you badly
Because now, my days are not that sunny.

I need you right here.
I’m really desperate, I hope you could hear.
The happy days are long, long gone,
Without you, there is no more fun.

Again we could meet.
At the place where I left you near the streets.
I’m sorry, I thought you are useless and undeserving.
Maybe we could start anew, from the beginning?

Let’s bring back the past.
Be together as if this day’s the last.
Let’s call a truce.
I will love you and I won’t leave you bruised.

I'm sorry if I wasn't able to free you from sadness
I've learned that life is about choices more than luck
Everyone changes and even I am now different
But still your days shouldn't be dim and dull

I'm sorry if I am not there.
I can hear you and I want to answer you
To remind you that happy days aren't over yet
That I am here for you, no need to worry

Maybe then we could meet again.
At the place where you thought you left me
I understand why you thought you didn't need me
We could now start anew

Let’s change the past
Be one again as if this day’s the last
Let’s call a truce
I love you and won't let you get bruised

Sincerely, Me
Bahaghari

Literary: Bahaghari

Itim

Buhay ko'y parang telebisyon
Walang kakulay-kulay noon
Puno ng problema’t magulo
Sadyang simple at malabo

Pula

Minsa’y nasaktan at nadapa
Nainis, nagalit, at sa huli’y lumuha
Pinag-alab ang poot at galit
Sa huli, sarili ang sinisi

Bughaw

Isang araw ika’y lumapit
Niyakap ako ng mahigpit
Nagbigay ng bagong pag-asa
Buhay ko’y biglang lumigaya

Bahaghari

Buhay kong matagal nang nalulumbay
Binigyan mo ng kulay
Pinasaya mo't pinasigla

Literary: Kailanman

Dumating

Inibig
Nabighani ako sa iyong pagkatao.
Habang banayad kong pinagmamasdan

Lumisan
Nabihag ako sa iyong kariktan,
Ng iyong mapagbalatkayong ngiti
Na walang ibang bulong kundi matatamis na salita
Pilit na tinatakluban ang malalamyang mga labi.
Ngunit, sinasambit ng iyong mga mata
Ang mapanglaw na katotohanan.

Nanabik

Mananatili
At sa bawat alaalang dumadaluyong, naiisip kita.

Literary: Until We Wake

As we sleep,
Our fantasies live.
Beyond the heavens,
There is a dream.

Dreams that are meant for children:
A wonderful place
Where rainbows are within reach
And on an endless happy ride.

Dreams that are created by fools:
A make-believe world
Where curious hearts wander
And try to chase the fictional home.

Dreams that are inside everyone’s minds:
An unimaginable dimension
Where everything is perfect
And true happiness is attainable.

But a dream for me is:
Our own universe
Where we reign as rulers of reality
And all its elements—stardust, space, and time
Are shaped by our hands.

Where we are not afraid to take chances
At what’s deemed impossible.

All until we wake.

Literary: Ikaw

Sumasakit ang ulo ko
Kapag naaalala kita
At kung bakit ko pa ibinigay
Ang aking pangalan

Sumisikip ang dibdib ko
Sa tuwing naiisip kita
At kung paano ko ibinigay
Ang aking “oo” at pagsinta

Nanginginig ang aking kamay
Kapag naaalala kita
