Literary (Submission): Dear Mellow Yellow

Dear Mellow Yellow,

I know it's weird for a guy like me to write a letter like this to you. But allow me to take this time to show how much I really care for you. We've been best friends for a long time, yet I never really had a chance to say what I feel.

Every day I wait for a sign. It doesn't matter to me how long it takes. I will wait, for love is patient. Whether this sign will tell me that we could be or if we were just not meant for each other, doesn't matter.

Whatever this sign tells me, I am willing to accept the truth. I want you to know that every joke I tell, every piece of advice I give, all the little things I do for you, are all out of love. Without love, all of these are just meaningless words, lost actions, and empty promises.

I'll admit that losing you would make me sad and break my heart in two. But a girl like you is worth every sacrifice, I will never have regrets chasing after you.

Sincerely,
Bluenote

Literary (Submission): Overflow

It fades, how fast it fades
As colors let go of the blessed canvas
So does your heart taint the shades
That never again shall it encompass

Salute those who last
For shining bright as ever,
Their fated stars are cast
And their light shall never sever

Appeased, your gods shall be
As I’m the offering, burning a million flames
Your faith satisfied, at the cost of me
"Be careful of He who tames."

Let the sky fall, for it is a shame
That the ink as black as pitch,
Dark as the smiles you claim,
Click by click, turns the killswitch.

Even my ears, filled with colors
Of sepia, brown, and oak,
Melodies turn into words of horror.
Letters, punctuations, and pretense as cloak.

Alas, the fleeting hues!
A vivid explosion of the aftermath,
Rubble and discord into a blurry recluse.
"You have destroyed me."

O, these are my final colors for you.
For only so much, my heart can suffer
As the epitome of what lies true
My heart shall be, forever.

Literary (Submission): Colors of Wonder

Among thousands of pigments,
There are but three that truly stand out,
Three that never fail to rid my life of doubt.
Alone they are but mere figments
But together capable of the most wondrous movements.
In a sea of red and blue, yellow stars shine all-out
Like fireflies in the night sky, dancing about.
The thought that we’ll never be shatters my heart to fragments,
A burden I’ll forever bear, being no one
While you’re someone admired by all.
Seeing everything that everyone has done
Only leads to the tragic reality I recall.
But I know it in my heart that you’re the one
And for you I’m not afraid to fall.

Literary: Colors through Time

A dash of coquelicot traced your smile
And you smelled of sweet scented chamomile.
I reckon the sarcoline glow of your face
And your eerie black curls that were tied with lace.

I loved the copper undertones of your formal vest
And the way you walked with a gentlemanly zest,
And when I sloppily stepped on your eburnean shoes,
You beamed and we kept on dancing to the blues.

We were swaying colors in a puddle of gray
And we were in love.

How could I forget your silk white chaleco,
Perfectly wrapped round your olive green vestito,
As you wore in your fingers the sienna ruby
When you finally said yes to me?

How could I forget the cobalt blue sky
And those ivory pair of wings we sent to fly,
When on that day it happened finally
My dreams started to become reality?

We were two rainbows in the horizon
And we were in love.

Streaks of grey and streaks of white
That azure fountain pen you would use to write
As you sat on the rocking chair wooden and old
I would see you and feel my love growing tenfold.

Hints of silver on top of your head
That striped xanadu sweater you always wore to bed
Yet you still reminded me of that grand first day
When we danced to the music by the midnight bay.

We were silver and golden through time
And we were in love.

Literary: Objet d' Art

She used to be
A blank canvas,
A slab of marble,
Something unnoticed
By the people around her.

Nothing she was
To the eyes of many
For no one knows
What beauty
She has in store.

Seasons change
And so do people.
Towards the light
She stepped out
As someone
No one realized
She was.

She wasn’t merely
A blank canvas
Or a slab of marble:
She was better.
A work of art she was
And time
Was her artist.

Such elegance she held
As people looked at her.
Mesmerized,
Astonished by her beauty,
Far better than
The Mona Lisa
Of Da Vinci.

She was near perfection,
She brought more color
Than that of
Van Gogh's.
A masterpiece,
A chef-d'œuvre.

And even my heart
Was captivated
By the marvel she held.

Literary: Itim

Mananatiling tapat at tuluyang lalaban

Noong ikalabing walong kaarawan mo
Una tayong nagkita at nagpakilala ako

Noong sabihin mong, "Oo,

Literary: Sorry

I am sorry.
The red of the roses
You gave me
Now has faded.

I am sorry.
The silver of the necklace
You tied ’round my neck
Now has tarnished.

I am sorry.
The brightness of the brown
In your eyes when you see me
Now has gone dull.

I am sorry.
For putting out
The fire in the love
You had for me.

I am
The one to blame.
I have no
Right to feel pain.

But it still hurts
I never wanted you to go.
But you did.
And it was my fault.

If I can ask
For just one chance
I would.
But no, I know you won’t allow it.

And darling I understand why
For I am guilty of conviction.
I was unworthy.
I’m sorry.

Literary: Obra Maestra

I only envision things
In black and white.
Empty is the word I’d use
To describe my feelings.
Love was just
Part of my imagination.

This was my world
Before you came,
Before "we" happened.

In just a snap
You redefined
Everything in my life.

You lit up
Every lamp inside my soul
And patched up
My heart
Once filled with holes.

You showed me
How to live
Instead of just exist.
You taught me to live,
To love,
To breathe.

And I will always be thankful
To you—the artist
Who painted me
With colors
I thought I would never see.

Literary: Black and White

I was white
And you were black
We are each other’s light
Yet there was something that I lack

We definitely contrast
We are different from one another
And we tend to last
Even without the other

You preferred tint
And one with a different hue
You still can’t take a hint
That I complement you

And ever since
The universe showed you the color blue
You got tired of being with me
And eventually you flew

I was white
And you were black
And that’s the most painful reason
Why you can’t love me back

Literary: The Rain in Rainbows

White
The beginning, a blank canvas
A blank page waiting to be filled with figures and details

Red
The color of his lips every time you watched him speak
but also
The blood that you bled when you heard him curse in the air

Orange
The fire in his heart that gave you warmth and comfort on a chilly night
but also
The fire that burned and tore you down

Yellow
The fireflies that accompanied you in loneliness
but also
The arid and isolated desert where he left you

Green
The forests and the mountains of his soul that gave life to you
but also
The places where you got lost and trapped

Blue
The oceans and the sky in his eyes that gave you serenity
but also
The deep end which drowned and conquered you

Violet
The sense of royalty he gave you
but also
A reminder of the power he has over you

Black
Your boundless and infinite love for him
but also
The abyss that will end it

Literary: I am a Lie

Red is for the blood that rages in my veins
It is my bane and a pain to always feign strong through the strain

With the Orange I am weary, for it always comes after Red
It is the shame that I gain from all said and unsaid

You say Yellow is the light for a happy new day
But it is just when I lay, drop dead and wish the light to herald the end of my days

With some lies, some sighs and numerous tries not to cry
I attempt to hide how the Green strives to say, how it is they I can’t defy

I once thought I liked Blue for it was what made the sky
Now I wish I could be free and fly away from the fray, and sleep with the clouds’ lullaby

With the Violet comes the ultimate price
For thinking and lying that one’s life isn’t played by someone else’s dice

In the end, don’t pretend that you never had the unfeeling Gray
Because you were played and misled to think you had no choice and no say

In a life that is and always bleak and Black
One cannot escape all the cracks, flaks, setbacks, double backs and the stabbing of backs

But even Science knows Black IS all colors, maybe all I need is to discover
Other wonders of colors that will smother and cover the Gray all together

Now I see that the way won’t always be paved with Gray
That the Gold may be well on their way to save me from the lies I say

Literary: Contrasts

If you were a photo album
In the dark attic,
I would be the sentimental romantic.

Sepia tones are what's left
Of memories I tried to keep.
I yearn to remember
What those colors used to mean.
You have been gone for too long,
But I wish to keep you now.

I am wary, yet wistful:
I may not be able
To bring back the shades that once were
But I dream of bringing color back to you.

If you were a painting
In an art gallery,
I would be the blind visitor.

Vivid colors are lost
To eyes that cannot see.
I yearn to feel
How the paints dance in fusion
But you are behind velvet ropes
And I am too far away.

I am dismayed, but overjoyed:
I may not be able
To see the hues that make you,
But I am sure someone else will.

If you were a sketch
In a private collection,
I would be the powerless guest.

Monochrome lines are testimonies
Of what you are to the collector.
I yearn to see
What a splash of color could do
But my palette has the wrong shades
And you were never mine to begin with.

I am defeated, yet content:
I may not be able
To replace the somber tints,
But I understand I have no right to change you.

Literary: Love Hues

I have this painting in my mind
That I want to come to life
It’s something that is one of a kind
Something that has us in mind

I will start by filling my palette
With the colors that would fit
Colors that we’ll need the most
To make things work between us

Red is for our love for each other
And blue for the fights and tears that come after
Yellow for the excessive happiness you cause
And black for the lies you say every time you pause

Green for the anger and unwanted jealousy
And orange for not giving up on me
Gray for the hair we’ll have as we grow older
And white for the path we'll follow together

There are so many colors around
But these are the ones that I have found
That would perfectly fit my work of art
For it all came from my heart

Literary: Render

If only I could paint our picture
Just like how I would before
In the most vibrant hues,
Graceful strokes,
And never fading colors

But I've lost all senses,
Blinded—I see no light

If only I could cry a thousand drops of paint
To wash away uncertainty with beauty

Will you hold my hand
And guide me to make this picture alive
So that I will no longer fear our transient story?
Will you help me love again?
Remind me of the rainbow that awaits in your caress?

Literary: Bahagharing Itim

Ang kulay ng kalikasan
Ay tunay na nakahahalinang pagmasdan
Mula langit hanggang lupa
Mula kanan patungong kaliwa

Literary: Bahaghari

Itim

Buhay ko'y parang telebisyon
Walang kakulay-kulay noon
Puno ng problema’t magulo
Sadyang simple at malabo

Pula

Minsa’y nasaktan at nadapa
Nainis, nagalit, at sa huli’y lumuha
Pinag-alab ang poot at galit
Sa huli, sarili ang sinisi

Bughaw

Isang araw ika’y lumapit
Niyakap ako ng mahigpit
Nagbigay ng bagong pag-asa
Buhay ko’y biglang lumigaya

Bahaghari

Buhay kong matagal nang nalulumbay
Binigyan mo ng kulay
Pinasaya mo't pinasigla
