catweng,

Ano ang mamimiss mo sa MC?

10/24/2012 09:23:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

- Benjo Hernandez, News-Sports Writer/Kulot

“Beats. Kasi working vacant. Petiks kahit gumagawa ng article.”
- Dara Lilang, News-Sports Writer/Unlucky Charm/Tambay Queen 1

“Beats.
- Hannah Garay, Literary Writer/Sleeping Beauty/Virtual Villager

“Beats! Trending! Pictorial. Meetings! Productive tambay. :) Pagcocover ng games, FREEDOM, MChika! At siyempre makukulit naming advisers... Ma’am Cathy and Ma’am Wena. :)”
- Trizia Badong, Feature Writer/Tambay Queen 2/Trending Addict

- Arielle Gabriel, News-Sports Writer/Layout Artist/Website Designer/Resident Ninja

- Rya Ducusin, Feature Writer/Advertiser/Promoter/Joker/Master Trese Editor

“Writing. Because writing is my way of letting go.”
- Miguel Flores, News-Sports Writer/Mr. Minority/Lost in Translation

“Mamimiss ko makitang ipublish mga sinulat ko.”
- Camille Custodio, Feature Writer/Ms. Abs (Absent)

- James Borja, Literary Writer/Gino the Equestrian's

- Christian Boro, News-Sports Writer/Mr. Abs (Absent)/CB Twin

Eh bakit kailangan mong maghabol? Kasi siguro ang mamimiss mo ay...

“Ang MChika!!! Plus buong staff at learning coordinators! Kasi puro fun kwentuhan at bonding ang MC experience."
- Camille Babaran, Feature Writer/Trese Editorial Assistant/CB Twin

"Chikahan at kwentuhan tuwing meeting..."
- Sandy De La Paz, News-Sports Writer/May-ari ng Ipad ng Bayan

"Ahhhhhhhh... mamimiss ko yung ID ng MC. Uhuhuhu...."
- Eric Madriaga, Literary Writer/Pogi-slash-Paa/Boy Banat

"Eric. Ang pinaka-productive kong partner sa Trese. Ang laging online kapag kailangan ko. Lahat ng MC member nangangarap makapartner 'to.
- Reagene Fernando, Feature Writer/PPS (Pogi's Personal Secretary)

"Panlalait ni Paolo kasi... yeah. :D"
- Patricia Lim, Literary Writer/Snow Queen/Translator

“Sharon! :"> Paggawa ng Trese. Beats + Tsismisan sa loob ng MC. Bagyong Wena.”
- Bianca Pio, Literary Writer/MC Preshussss/Miss Universe (Out of this World)

“Beats with Trizia and Dara, kalokohan ni Eric, the room, making articles, yung bawang, magsulat sa board, ‘teach,’ ‘nakakainis,’ mga yearbook sa likod, mga MChika ni Ma’am Wena, everyday sit-in ni Clarence... pretty much everything.”
- Juanito Gregorio, News-Sports Writer/Tambay King/Abangers

“Work! Chos!”
- Paolo Aljibe, Art Director/Cameraman/Boy Abunda aka Number One Echusera

- Red Bartolome, Associate Editor for English/Ang “B” sa Ada B.

- Joanna Pagulayan, Features Editor/Resident Statistician/Ms. Pasimpleng-I-Love-You

Sure kami, di rin nila malilimutan ang...

“Ed board meetings after MC.
- Nina Leis, Literary Editor/DINA Nakalimot

It completes my Tues-Thurs.
M.E. Work, kahit mahirap at stressful, parang nabibigyang saysay ang school life ko.
- Ada Bayobay, Managing Editor/Article Counter/Graphic Artist/Part-time Custodian/Yale's Best friend

“LAHAT. Kasama doon ang with all the feelings na kulitan at tawanan every meeting. Pati na yung mismong trabaho. Yes, yung trabaho. Paulit-ulit talaga mga salita ko ngayon. Haha. As in.
Basta more power sa MC! Memorable talaga ang work program na ito.”
- Shari Oliquino, Associate Editor for Filipino/Taga-nag/Ms. Mega Tagal

- Aaron Lina, News-Sports Editor/Nina-nag/Mr. Mega Tagal

Ahhhhhhhhh, wala ka nga talagang mamimiss. Wala kang naisulat eh.

Tagos to the bones ang pagmamahal sa MC. Wooo!”
- Aliyah Rojo, Editor in Chief/Wrong Speller/aka Queen Amanda/Nakakaloka!!!/Ginagamit ang MC para "late" makauwi

We will miss all of it. Every single thing. Because... #EVERYTHINGISABOUTMC.  Ma'am Cathy and Ma'am Wena

13+++ Things you should know about TRESE

10/24/2012 08:59:00 PM Media Center 2 Comments

Hi,

Everytime na magkasama tayo, I feel so happy. Yung mga kwentuhan, yung mga kulitan, even the times you cry on my shoulder, masaya ako at ako ang pinagkakatiwalaan mo. That is why I wrote this letter for you. I like you. Sorry pero matagal ko itong tinago. From the first time I saw you, I knew it was you. Lalo pa at naging close tayo. Hindi ko alam paano ka magrereact pero this one’s for you.

Love,
Bestfriend

----

Hi Bes,

I don’t know how to react. Thank you? I really like you ever since we’ve been close. I appreciate din everytime na magkasama tayo. Walang duda na nag-eenjoy din ako kasama ka but I only like you as a best friend. I’m so sorry. You know naman how much I still love Carl. I still haven’t moved on. But you will always be my best friend.

From,
Bes

----

Dear Bes,

I love you.

Love,
Bestfriend

UPIS Table Tennis outsmashed in UAAP

10/06/2012 06:09:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

UPIS struggled in the first two days of table tennis competition held at the Blue Eagle Gym last September 22-23 and 29-30.

UPIS tried to bounce back in the third and fourth day as respective wins from freshman James Ecito and juniors Bryan Gutierez, and Joseph Manal boosted their chances.

The team ended at 7th place with a 2-42 record.

They look to redeem glory next year with a virtually intact line up as no member of the team will be graduating.  by Trizia Badong, Juanito Gregorio, and Dara Lilang

Violation slips handed out

10/06/2012 06:00:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

Last September 26, teachers and staff have started giving out pink slips to students who commit minor offenses such as wearing incomplete uniform, sporting improper haircut, coming in late for class, displaying unbecoming behavior, cutting class, and littering among others.

"It's for the more effective monitoring of the minor violations," says Prof. Roselle Velasquez, Assistant Principal for Academic Programs, on the function of the said pink slips.

Whenever a student commits a minor offense, he/she is asked to sign two pink slips promising to avoid committing further acts of misdemeanor.

One of those should be kept by the student as proof that they were given a pink slip and should be presented to his/her parent. While, the other pink slip is submitted by the teacher or staff who noted the offense to the adviser of the student for recording and monitoring.

Sanctions for the offenses are carried out as described in the UPIS School Rules and Regulations. ● by Ada Bayobay

Literature: Perks of being a Pogi

10/03/2012 08:22:00 PM Media Center 1 Comments

Dear Friend,

Ang hirap palang maging handsome. Everywhere I go, the chicks look at me and promise, kinikilig sila.

Masyadong pogi o masyadong hot? Siguro both.

So hot ko talaga. Sabi niya, "Hey babe! Php 3000, you want?" Sagot kong mabilis, "Php 3000? Are you underestimating my handsomeness? And on the other hand, sorry, pag-aaral muna uunahin ko." The gay went away devastated.

XOXO,
Pogi

MEGAnon: The Sharon Feeture

10/03/2012 07:34:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

“You get to develop feelings for each other when you’re close to each other… Proximity,” pahayag ni MDC. “They look good together,” dagdag pa niya.

“Just keep on supporting us and we will keep on entertaining you. Love you guys,” sabi ni varsity player.

“Yak! Kadiri!

10/03/2012 07:14:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

● nina Him at Mango Curl

Izportz: Molave itinaob ang Dao

10/03/2012 07:06:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

New's: UPISDA apprehends student violator

10/03/2012 07:01:00 PM Media Center 1 Comments

A student was issued a transparent orange slip by the UPIS Development Authority (UPISDA), after violating the ‘Keep of the Grass’ law at the quadrangle last September 27.

Student α was caught red-handed at the scene of the crime. He was walking around the ‘Keep of the Grass’ sign when he was interrupted by student Ɵ who was passing by the office.

Student Ɵ  immediately reported his violation to the enforcer who promptly blew his whistle. The moment student α heard it, he started to shout loudly, run very fast, and at times, roll all over the quadrangle.

The UPISDA enforcers were appalled with his behavior so they gave him the transparent orange slip that recorded his violations: over-speeding, noise-making, and blatant disregard for the 'Keep of the Grass' sign.

Because of three subsequent violations, Student α's ID was confiscated. To be able to get it back, he will be have to attend a seminar on why rules and regulations should not be broken.  by Benjo Hernandez, Patricia Lim, and Bianca Pio

Izportz: Volleyball sa damuhan, nauwi sa one-on-one

10/01/2012 07:32:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

One-on-one.
at Gabriel Brian. (c) T. Badong, D. Lilang, S. De La Paz

● nina Trizia Badong, Dara Lilang

Feeture: Molaboys: The Next Big Thing

10/01/2012 07:21:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

Are you looking for the next boy Backstreet boys or Nsync? Then we have the perfect boy group for you.

The team of Herwin Lor, Eric Madriaga, Russell Mercado, Ivan Ortega, Nicolo Saren, Jon Tungpalan and Miguel Turqueza, collectively known as Molaboys are ready to sweep you off your feet.

Molaboys: Soon to be sikat!  (c) Nina Leis
The Molaboys was formed to represent 10 - Molave for the U.P.I.S Idol season 2 competition held last September. Proving their popularity, they were able to bag 3rd place in the aforementioned contest. Now they’re one of the most sought-after musical groups in school.

However, these seven naïve boys had to take a long and hard path towards their current superstar status. According to an interview with Tungpalan, they almost backed out during the auditions because they were not prepared. But with their determination and courage, they were able to pull it off and as a matter of fact, they got into the finals.

On the day of the finals, they experienced the same difficulties they encountered during the auditions. But again, using their charm, their awesome dance moves and harmonious vaoice, the Molaboys performed and won 3rd place.

“Na flatter talaga kami, di namin akalaing madami kaming fans” he says.

So watch out, One Direction! The Molaboys are coming for you.  by James Borja and Shari Oliquino

New's: Giant grade stubs released

10/01/2012 07:09:00 PM Media Center 2 Comments

Parents and students excitedly trooped to the UPIS Multi-purpose Hall last September 14 to claim the brand new grade stubs which are to replace the old, unattractive, and unsightly report cards.

It is evident that as the advisers handed out the stubs, parents and students alike can not hide their disbelief.

"I didn't expect it to look like that," Ezra Movilla of 10-Balete said. "I was, like, whoa!"

The stubs are made of the highest quality A2 size board paper with extra large font for easy reading. This was done to solve the loss or misplacement of the normal-sized report cards which has been a recurring problem in previous years.

"Mas okay 'to. Minsan kasi iniiba niya yung grades niya eh. Mas mataas yung sinasabi," Mr. Gary Valencia said.

"I agree!" nods Mrs. XYZ, parent to a Grade 3 and Grade 8 student. "Though, I hope they'll provide a card jacket. Baka kasi malukot yung stubs."

(c) Paolo Aljibe

The release of stubs was a relatively quiet affair as parents are no longer required to come in and claim the grades themselves. Students who don't have deficiencies proudly claimed their stubs and are particularly happy that contact between their teachers and parents are minimized this quarter.

"Sobrang relieved, as in!" a Grade 10 student, who wishes to remain anonymous, gushed.

"Truelaloo!" her friend agreed. Puro line of 7 eh."

Hours after the issuance of grade stubs, however, 78 students sought medical attention due to severe papercuts. When prompted about the injuries, students said they found it exceedingly difficult to carry the stubs around, resulting in mishandling and injuries.  by Red Bartolome

(c) Ada Bayobay

40 years of Joyful Music

9/28/2012 07:14:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

This year, the UP Cherubim and Seraphim (UPCS), official children's choir of UP Diliman, is celebrating 41 years of making beautiful music.

Founded by Prof. Flora Zarco Rivera in September 21, 1971 with 20 elementary students from the College of Music's Saturday Music Extension Program, the UPCS concluded their yearlong anniversary celebration with a reunion concert entitled Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika at the Abelardo Hall, UP Diliman last September 21.

Five generations of Cherubim members performed together on stage singing the group's all-time favourite songs.

(c) Dr. Elena Rivera Mirano
The regular members of the group opened the concert with a European repertoire which includes Johann Sebastian Bach's Wir Eilen Mitschwachen doch Emsigen Schritten.

Part Two was composed of three Nationalistic songs with music written by Carlos Pizzaro. The songs were based on poems Sa Aking mga Kabata by Jose Rizal, Pag-ibig sa Tinubuang Lupa by Andres Bonifacio, and a debut song Unang Daing ni Florante based on Francisco Balagtas' Florante at Laura.

The third part of the concert was pop-themed which consisted of three songs by Stephen Schwartz namely We Beseech Thee, For Good, and Corner of the Sky, and You Raise Me Up by Brendan Grahan and Rolf Lovland.

For the fourth part, the Apprentices and Alumni joined the Regulars for the round song Alleluia by Michael Preatorius. The Apprentices also had their own section wherein they sang traditional songs Praise and Thanksgiving and We Merry Mistrels for their first public appearance.

The spotlight then focused on the Alumni when they sang Sa Lupang Sarili by Lucio San Pedro.

The Regulars then came back on stage with the Alumni for the last three songs of the fourth part consisting of Ramon P. Santos' Handog sa Ina, Odina Batnag's I am but a Small Voice and Ryan Cayabyab's Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika.

The Alumni, Regulars and Apprentices sang Daybreak by Barry Manilow as an encore.  by Paolo Aljibe, Sandy De La Paz, Arielle Gabriel, and Hannah Garay

The Music of the Night

9/28/2012 07:12:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

The world’s most successful and popular musical, and the longest-running show on Broadway – Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera- continues to grace the Philippines with its musical glory. The show premiered last August 25 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Main Theater in Manila and is extended until October 14, 2012. To date, the show has been seen by over 130 million people worldwide, in more than 27 countries, has won over 50 major theatre awards, and has banked more than $ 5.6 billion.

Set in a Paris opera house, The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of a disfigured musical genius and composer known as 'The Phantom' who haunts the opera house. The Phantom (played by Jonathan Roxmouth) is mesmerized by the beautiful and beguiling Christine Daaé (played by Claire Lyon), a young soprano.

The Phantom of the Opera is one of the most popular theatre classics. It is combination of love, passion, jealousy, sorrow, and a bit of violence. Though it dwells on the dark side of the theatre life, it is still a story very much relatable- especially considering the romantic nature of Filipinos.

When it comes to musical score, The Phantom of the Opera is nothing but brilliant. The cast was also amazing. Their voices added life and depth into the already beautiful songs. Rouxmouth was especially outstanding. His voice projection was great while his singing was very clear and full of emotion. Other actors like Lyon, and Anthony Downing also gave amazing performances. In addition, the casting of Filipino tenor Dondi Ong as Piangi gives a sense of Pinoy pride.

The grand designs of both costumes and stage contributed a lot to the impact of the show. Special effects also heightened the emotions for each scene.

From its stellar performances, to the breathtaking costumes, flamboyant stage design and heartfelt music the Phantom of the Opera promises to deliver nothing but world class experience. It is a masterpiece and a definite must see for not only Broadway fans but everyone as well.  by Joanna Pagulayan

UPIS dominates DLSZ in UAAP season-ender

9/26/2012 07:59:00 PM Media Center 0 Comments

The UPIS Junior Fighting Maroons ended their Season 75 campaign on a high note after pulling off a 63-52 victory over the De La Salle Zobel (DLSZ) Junior Archers at the San Juan Arena last September 23.

After being down by 1, 7-8, in a closely-fought low-scoring first quarter, a jumper by Aaron Lina started a UPIS scoring spree in the second. Drawing good scoring games from juniors Diego Dario and Benz Nacpil, and senior Paolo Ancheta, the Junior Maroons went on a 15-0 run to race to a dozen point lead at the end of the first half, 24-12.

The Junior Archers brought the UPIS lead down to 8, 24-16, after converting back-to-back baskets to start the third quarter. But the Junior Maroons took advantage of DLSZ’s early penalty, converting 10 of 15 free throws. Jozhua General scored a buzzer-beating putback to put UPIS in the lead by 13, 42-29, after three quarters.

There was no looking back for the Junior Maroons as they established the biggest lead of the game at 15, 46-31, with still 8 minutes left in the game, after Dario converted 1 of 2 at the line off a hard foul committed by a DLSZ player.

It was an emotional win for the Junior Maroons, especially for the graduating players, Ancheta, Lina, Juanito Gregorio, Vince Quejada, and Russell Mercado who played together at the 1:30 mark to finish the game.

UPIS ends the season at 6th place with a 4-10 win-loss record, a marked improvement from their 1-13 win-loss card last year. ● CCCA

They say curiosity killed the cat.

Well, it did way more than that.
When I first saw him, I was star struck.
Sparkling grey eyes.
Dark tousled hair.
Broad shoulders.
Calm yet distant look.

I thought who is this guy? Who is this handsome, mysterious creature standing five feet away from me? This seemingly wild and dangerous yet at the same time safe and tame being. What else could I do but fall for him?

I spent many nights thinking about him, wondering where he was from, who he is, what he was like… I couldn’t get him out of my head.

When I finally got the courage to approach him, I was eccentric. He had such a deep, rustic voice that just melted my heart. I couldn’t believe it. He was talking to me, staring with those intense eyes.

I felt so… alive.

We spent weeks chatting, talking, laughing. The closer we got to each other, the more my feelings grew. I was smitten-head over heels in love.

I thought he was, too.

Until one day, he told me. Trust me, I wish he never did.

How could I have been so blind? Someone like that, someone like him? It was too perfect. Too good to be true. Of course he liked someone else. Of course he’s planning to propose to her. Of course he is.

They say curiosity killed the cat.
