UPIS 3-6 places second in PSO Finals

The UPIS 3-6 team of Jarod de Luna, Henry Marquez, and Bertrand Diola won 2nd place in the Philippine Science Olympiad finals last September 30 held at the Ateneo de Manila University.

On the other hand, Mariel de Luna, Zena del Mundo, and Christine Prieto placed 9th in the high school division.

The competition was a quiz bee composed of questions regarding Information Technology, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Earth Science.

From 300 competing schools in the elimination round, the pool was narrowed down to 20 schools in the semi-finals. From the 20 schools chosen, 10 qualified for the finals.  by Sandy De La Paz, Rya Ducusin, Miguel Flores, and Hannah Garay

UPIS tops PSO elims

Two UPIS teams qualified for the final round of the Philippine Science Olympiad 2012 after topping the ranks in the elimination round held last September 8 at the Angelicum College.

The Philippine Science Olympiad is organized by the Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs. It is divided into Bracket I (Elementary) and Bracket II (High school).

The UPIS students who participated in Bracket I were Jarod De Luna, Henry Marquez and Bertrand Diola. Their team was able to place in the top 20 for national level and top 3 for NCR level. As for the UPIS participants in Bracket II, seniors Mariel de Luna, Zena del Mundo, and Christine Prieto were able to place in the top 20 for National level and top 2 for NCR level.

The Olympiad quiz bee is an exam taken individually by each student. The scores they got from the test were added to the scores of their group mates, and were ranked according to the total score of the students in each school.

UPIS lumahok sa PSO

Ginanap noong Setyembre 24 ang National Finals ng Philippine Science Olympiad (PSO) sa PHIVOLCS Auditorium, Diliman, Quezon City. Sina Tanya Amor (10 – Lauan), Ralph Valencia (10 – Acacia), at Mariel de Luna (9 – Gold) ang mga kinatawan ng UPIS.

Nagkaroon ng practical at written test sa unang round ng kumpetisyon. Nakasama ang UPIS sa top 10 at sa ikalawang bahagi, naglaban-laban sa isang quiz bee ang mga paaralan na nakapasok.

Nakamit ng UPIS ang ika-9 na puwesto. Baguio National High School ang nag-kampeon.
