Literary: Seven Reasons

Seven different reasons from seven different voices as to why they chose to stay‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
1. “I loved him. Seven hours ago, he left for work. I stayed on my spot outside the train station to wait for him to get back, but he never did. I knew he'd never leave me and that he'd come back for me eventually, like he always did, so I stayed.”

2. “I saw her- kneeling on the floor, eyes closed, hands intertwined. She was exhausted and drained, her eyes grew dull, her hands turned rough, wrinkles and dark circles now highlighted her beautiful face. Seeing her lose hope in the middle of the day, yet regain much more of it at the end of each one, gives me enough motivation and reason to stay. Seeing her get weak- physically, emotionally, and mentally, yet still manage to get a mile farther every day, unconsciously makes me strive to be stronger, for her and for us. Seeing her praying and asking for guidance to live through challenges, not just for herself but for everyone she loves, gives me hope and assurance that the hardest things in life are the most worth it in the end.”

3. “She checks up on me to see if I'm okay, even when I fail to do the same for her most of the time. I realized I didn't deserve a friend like her, one who will always be there to listen and cope with me through everything. I wanted to give her a friend as caring and as selfless as her, so I stayed.”

4. “The day he said goodbye, I felt like everything I believed in was a lie. I remembered the promise I made to myself a year ago that whatever happens, I'll hold on, because he made me feel like he was sure of everything. Like he was sure of me. All the possibilities and plans I had for us crumbled. All the hopes of being beside him when he finally reaches his dreams vanished. All the places we swore we'd go to seemed like a hundred thousand miles away. The day he said goodbye, he took away a part of my heart. A part that he will always have- a part I wouldn't want to take back, and a part that didn't seem like it belonged to me anymore. He broke my heart, yet I still believe in him. I still believe in the person that he is, and the person that he is yet to become. I would still live to see him succeed, and so I'll stay, even if it means being at the back row of the audience.”

5. “He is my soulmate. Our mornings are for motivating, and our nights are for contemplating. We share this bond- one that weakens whenever we're apart, but never breaks and grows even stronger the moment we reunite. I feel empty for days, weeks, or even months when we don't speak, yet I stay. I stay, hoping that one day he'll come back, look at me with that reassuring smile and never leave again.”

6. “This corner feels like home, looks like home, and has now become my home. It's been almost five years since we met, and more than three months since I've taken my place right here in this very spot. I have no idea where she is, what she's thinking, or how she's doing, but I'm hoping that one day, she'll change her mind and she'll know right where to go. After so many years, I still haven't moved on, what more reason do I need to keep myself from waiting for her to come back?”

7. “It's like I'm a new person in his eyes every week. My mom and I pay him a visit every Saturday, with our blankets and a picnic basket filled with his favourite chicken sandwich. I tell him about my week in school, the seven-minute walk I'd have to endure to get to my first class every morning, the nuts I'd always buy in the cafeteria and how they taste just like the ones sold in buses, and all the new things I experience every week. Every week, I tell him different stories. Yet every week, he only shares one specific story with me: his happiest day with his favourite grandson. Excitement would fill his eyes whenever he realizes he’d get to share the closest memory he has to his heart with someone new. And even if he doesn't recognize me, or even remember that he has been telling the same person the same story every week for two years now, I would still come back every Saturday, because that story was my happiest day as well.”

Literary: Am I Still? x Always

Am I Still?

Will I still be all right for you?

If who I am
Is not discovered by simply looking
For to know and to find
Is to dig again and again
Till exhaustion takes over

If what I desire
Is not something one can hold
Can’t see, smell, hear nor touch
Something indescribable
Yet so common and familiar

If where I stay
Is not where most people are
Not within the confines of the usual
But probably on the borderline
Of sense and insanity

If when I love
I also hurt those I treasure the most
Without knowing it
For pride and reticence
Unintentionally come first

If how I live
Means keeping a mask on
For behind my smile
Is where my demons are
Where they truly reside

And if why I hide
Is because building walls
Became a habit of mine
And running away when one comes close
Became a natural response

After everything that’s been revealed
Am I still all right for you?

Always

You will still be all right for me

Even if who you are
Cannot be determined by simply looking
Even if I have to seek
Every inch of this land
From what's out in the open
To the depths of our souls

Even if what you desire
Is a mere concept no one can hold
Even if I, myself am not sure
Of what it is, what it feels like
Or what it will bring

Even if where you are
Is far away from the usual
May it be two, three, or a thousand steps back
From where I used to be

Even if when you love
Your actions show the opposite
I will love you
Even if it means being pushed away

Even if how you live
Means hiding your true self
I will look beyond your eyes
Beneath your smile
And accept all there is

Even if you build walls
To keep people like me
From coming close to you
I will wait despite uncertainty
Until I am worthy of you

And even when everything has been revealed
Don’t you worry, my love
You will always be all right for me

Literary: Tonight

I want to lay down by the fire with you

Eyes closed, content
With pure and utter delight
In complete yet comfortable silence
As we share the warmth of the night

Where souls are glowing, ever warmer too

Our souls have always been connected
But tonight, sparks fly from within
They fill the gap between us
As the music inside us sing

Your love surrounds me like a lullaby
Singing softly, you are mine oh mine

Never said
But felt and done every day
With each step we took together
You made me feel loved in every way

The moon has never glowed this color

As we linger in this moment
It shines differently for me and you
And while gazing upon the night sky
The stars are watching us, too

Hearts have never been this close

Each word, smile, and decision
Has led me closer to this
Now we stand, hearts beating
For our eternal bliss

I have never been more certain

I am never sure of anything
Not even of what I've known ever since
But you are an exception
To this lifetime of whims

I will love you till we're old

And now, I stand before you
Exactly one foot apart
Completely fallen and certain
That I love you with all my heart.

Literary: What I Never Told You

Before us
I want you to know that I fell for you first. Right after your soothing voice filled the room with magic and joy the day I went to see you perform. I didn't know how good I was at trying to contain myself and keeping a straight face, but seeing you close your eyes as you sang those words and moved to the rhythm of the beat made my heart flutter. And since then, it has always skipped a beat whenever I saw you.

When there was still an us
I want you to know I meant every word I said, I hope you know that. Every word of all the letters and poems written to and for you was from my heart. And even now when both our feelings have changed, those things prove that at one point in our lifetimes, we had each other.

I want you to know I always thought about you. Heck, I still do. Even more when it’s midnight and the memories come rushing back. It makes me remember the conversations we had and I always wonder where we went wrong. How it slipped just right out of our hands, not knowing we would eventually let go. You fill my thoughts every time, whether or not I have a lot going on in mind. You will always be someone I care for and think about. You own a special place in my heart.

After us
I want you to know I still hope it’s you and me in the end. No matter how many signs the universe gives me, telling me otherwise, and no matter how far away we get from each other. I still hope the broken pieces fix themselves and put us together back again. I am willing to leave what’s meant for me, if ever I realize we’re not meant to be. I'll make it work. We'll make it work.

I may never get the chance to say this to you, but I still want you to know that I miss you the most. I miss you before I sleep, and whenever there’s dead air or when something comes up and reminds me of you. I miss you when I look at the stars, and even more when I listen to that song we danced to. Everything makes me miss you, and I know there’s no quick escape to that. All I can do is hope that time would heal things to the point when something reminds me of you again, I won’t miss you anymore.

Literary: You

I have always remembered the details.
The little things.

I remember the white clouds on the day we met,
Unevenly scattered on the crystal blue sky.
The navy checkered shirt you wore last month,
Wrinkled, unironed, but still presentable.
The squiggly patterns you drew on random paper
Whenever you got bored.
And the time you’d get home every single night
After a long day- exactly 8:21 PM.

I know how many teaspoons of sugar you put in your coffee,
How many right turns it takes to get to your house,
And the smiley faces you put at the end of your good nights.

I remember the rays of bright yellow
coming from the sun, and landing on your face.
Three moles at the back of your ankle
Spaced evenly apart, forming a triangle.
Brown strands of hair that sit perfectly tangled
Effortless, yet undeniably charming.
And wrinkles that form beside your eyes
Up to your temples, when you laugh.

These things, I will always remember.
These things, I will always know.
For I have loved every single moment
Every single pattern
And everything else in between
That makes you, you.

Literary (Submission): Hindi x Oo

Hindi

Naaalala mo pa ba
Noong tinanong mo ako
Nang walang pasabi, walang dahilan:
"Mahal mo ba ako?"

Ako namang hindi nag-isip,
Hindi nagpapigil.
Sumagot nang walang duda:
"Oo."

Ngunit bakit naging ganito?

Dahil naiisip kong mahirap siyang pantayan,

Magparaya dahil mahal mo.

Kailanma’y hindi kita ipagpapalit,
Landas man nati’y maghiwalay,
Magtatagpong muli.

Kaya,

Literary (Submission): 8 Anonymous People

8 Anonymous People on the moment they knew it was something else

1. “It was the day of the exams and we were reviewing the lesson in physics. We were arguing about what the Lenz's law indicates and he talked about it for 5 minutes with his hand gestures and all. It ended up not being in the test, but it didn't matter. I think he's the only person who could talk about something I disliked yet make me want to listen and know more about it.”

2. “Right from the beginning, I made the choice of going after her. I always knew she was something else. It's just that she already has someone else.”

3. “We were listening to the radio when Blank by Blank came up. It was a bad day but it instantly became better when he came up with the goofiest dance moves while singing along. I was cracking up the whole time and slowly regained calmness to see that he was sitting there and watching me laugh my heart out. He smiled. Right then and there I knew I wanted to be with someone who would dance like that just to see me happy.”

4. “As cliche as it sounds- he makes time stop whenever he laughs. It adds to the list of things that make the world a better place. It redeems the universe from all the negative.”

5. “I was crying because of something stupid and he was the first person to see and ask me if I was okay. The expression in his eyes when he asked was something you'd only get from someone who genuinely wanted to listen and stay. It was awkward but I felt that he wanted to give comfort. I felt that I had someone who cared.”

6. “It was the weekend and it was one of those days when I had the courage to send her a message on Facebook. We were close friends and talked often about different things in life. As the conversation was going, I accidentally pressed the button to make a video call. My heart jumped and to my surprise, she answered before I could cancel it. I ended up listening to her and her family blast out and sing along to OPM songs in the car for about 20 minutes. I felt how close and happy they were. I didn’t say a word, but I was smiling the whole time.”

7. “I always pray before I sleep. One night, I started praying for her safety and well-being –for God to help her with whatever she’s going through. I also did it the night after that, and the nights after that. It kind of became part of my routine to make sure I talked to Him about her. I’d wake up and see her the next morning, and know that my prayers are being answered.”

8. “We were walking to the ground floor of a mall. I’d always slow down just so she wouldn’t have to get tired keeping up with my pace, yet she’d still do because of the random stories she’d constantly blab about that would make her lose her breath. That time, she told me about how she dreamed of Zac Efron and how her dad kicked him out of the house. Part of the reason I love being with her is the way she’d tell me little things –things I don’t need to know, but things that make me know more about her. I hate walking to places, but doing it with her makes it less worse.”

Literary: 7 Wonders

Welcome to the 7 Wonders of Us! These are testament to the history of a boy and a girl, caught up in the strings of fate and swept into a whirlwind of memories. Please keep your emotions in check. The management will not be responsible for any tears, time, and effort put into reading this article. Prepare your hearts for the experience of a lifetime!

The Great Wall Between Us
Built when we first met, strengthened when we didn’t tell each other the truth. This wall is fortified with fear: fear of the truth, fear of commitment, fear of being turned down and its heartbreaking outcome. Yet it’s funny how so many marvel at this beauty. Two sides divided by the wall show imperfections that perfectly complement each other and two sides blind to each other, like how we can’t see the beauty of us together. It’s sad how all but us could see how perfect we are together, thanks to this Great Wall Between Us.

Machu Picture
Taken 13 years ago, it was our first picture together after we conquered the great wall together, well before everything became awkward. This picture symbolized when we first met, marking the start of thousands of unsaid words, years of unconfessed love and much more. I never really understood why I couldn't get rid of it. It just felt like this picture was meant for this list. It’s meant to be a wonder. It's meant to make me wonder why despite seeing different people, despite breaking each other's hearts without knowing, and despite going different paths, in the end, the paths we took just lead to each other.

The Epitome of Us
The Epitome of Us is a statue made to resemble the significance of the great history we have. Built by years of emotions, countless glances, and constant mixed signals, it serves as a symbol of how much history could be told from one figure. I remembered the first picture we took together was on this very spot. We used to never think about our unconfessed love. We never tried to be anything but friends. And this statue stands here because it symbolizes something we already had but never saw.

The Sentiment Colosseum
The Sentiment Colosseum, or the Emotion Amphitheatre, was built to keep your feelings silent, since expressing them might be overwhelming or irrelevant. Used for drama and re-enactments of meaningful moments, this is where one of the biggest unseen battles took place: choosing between fighting for what I felt for you and doing what I thought was right for us. And that’s why they kept a replica of the Epitome of Us: to see its similarity in beautiful destruction. But this is a thing of the past. Nowadays, it's just a tourist spot for those attracted to our story. Although it's full of drama, problems, and setbacks, I still wouldn’t have missed it for the world.

The Pyramid of Infinite Possibilities
The first steps we took and the countless others that followed it, all these create The Pyramid of Infinite Possibilities. Similar to the Sentiment Colosseum, this pyramid consists of stones that represent the problems and challenges that, when put together in the right way, make a glorious sight that earns its spot in the seven wonders. All the hardships and obstacles may drain every ounce of hope you have in you, but seeing how it turns out in the long run makes you realize that all the steps and sacrifices you doubted were worth it.

City of Recollection
Millions of memories were bound together to form this city, from the smallest, most shallow of moments which only the two of us notice, to the grand ones we consider milestones of our “relationship.” Found here is the memory of when my mere attraction for you grew into pure admiration the second I knew you cared enough to listen to whatever I had to say and to be there for me when I failed to keep sane, even if you didn’t know what to do. The memory of the exact moment when I realized we weren’t going to be just friends is forever imprinted on the walls of this city. We were always more than just possibilities, more than just late night conversations, more than how our fears defined us. This city was built to keep and protect precious moments, good or bad, forever. In the likelihood that we ever reach the point of changing, at least some things that never will.

Taj Mahal
The Great Palace built in the city where everything changed for us. After all the unsaid words, unseen feelings, and fear that overshadowed us, we did it! We made it through all of it. Although the timing was never right, the feelings were never sure and fear constantly reigned over the will to make a move, these didn't stop us from somehow finding our way back to each other. Time and time again, the universe reminds us that if it’s right, it’s right. We always deny what’s in front of us and thought that time would change what we feel for each other. But the reality is, nothing good ever gets away.

And that’s what makes the 7 Wonders of Us. Thank you for taking the tour. Until next time.

Bubuo ng isang bilog
Magkakapit-kapit
Bubuhulin, paiikutin
Mananatiling magkakabit

Kahit magulo, mahirap ibalik
Ang nakaraang ngayo’y hiwalay
Wala ang lahat ng ito
Basta’t hawak ang ‘yong kamay

Sa kabila ng pagkapulupot
Sa kabila ng pag-aalinlangan
Mananatili sa gitna ng gulo
Hangga’t ika’y nandiyan

Literary: Happy Birthday

People, smiles, and balloons
Gifts and pastries on trays
Greetings with love and promises
All on his special day

He turns a year older
With friends who stuck through thick and thin
Family that's more than just family
And people who believed in him

They celebrated with everyone
It seemed perfect as they played the song
And surprised him with his birthday cake
While clapping their hands and singing along

Then he blew his candle
Whispering the last birthday wish he'd spend
Closing his eyes and thinking
He wanted his life to end

His illness grew worse
As he laid himself in bed
All the cells within him gave up
And the fire inside him left

His body laid still
His soul already broken
He finally put himself to sleep
Never to be woken

A year older, and now dead
Happy birthday, wish granted
