Literary: The Elevators of Central Boulevard

Central Boulevard, the longest boulevard in the city. With its long stretch that is filled with variety, I would wonder what happens inside a lot in Central Boulevard.

1, Central Boulevard corner Rigby Avenue
Trench’s Summit Apartments
8:49 AM –11th floor; ASCENDING

The lift is humid. It is filled with brown moving boxes, waiting to be unpacked. Together with these boxes is a family of four. All they have on their faces are grins and sweat. It takes them almost a week to move all their things. Kids are pretty handful, what more if you add them into the equation of transporting big and fragile things to and fro. They wouldn’t have it any other way though. The relief is evident, outside this lift is their new home. After saving up for years and that long awaited raise, the wife and the husband finally provide well enough for their children. Nothing makes them happier than seeing their kids happy. Life is good.

53, Central Boulevard, 1st intersection
Central Boulevard Shopping Center
10:01 AM –Ground Floor; ASCENDING

It was crunch time. The mall just opened and this batch of ladies managed to catch the first elevator to go to the 5th floor, where this new limited-edition skincare product was being sold. It was said it works like magic, even a hopeless case can be solved. It was terribly quiet inside the elevator. The volume of their whispers was low but the tension went up the same time as the elevator. I wouldn’t even want to compete with them.

192, Central Boulevard, across TECH-UK Industries
KNJ Consolidated
12:30 NN –54th floor; DESCENDING

The heir of this company, the next CEO, is a mystery. He once proposed a deal with his father, the current CEO, that while he was training for the position, he didn’t want anyone to know how or what he looked like.

The heir was about to go down for a lunch meeting with foreign investors. Ever since he handled a part of the company as a trainee, stocks fell and the bad reputation increased. He needed this meeting to go well if he wanted to prove himself worthy he thought. Then an employee and an intern entered the lift. They were talking about him. How timely. They were discussing about how the intern was not satisfied with what he got for working in KNJ. The employee joked about resigning and leaving, finding TECH-UK better than this company. Good thing the heir was there, because once the elevator stopped, so did the intern’s heart.

237, Central Boulevard, beside Mr. Hanson’s Bakery
Central School of the Performing Arts
2:26 PM –rooftop; DESCENDING

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, and eight! Let’s take it from the top. The school’s dance team is about to perform in front of the student body. It is the mid-year break and they are preparing a dance routine before the 2-week break starts. It is a lot complicated than their previous numbers, not to mention having a lot of new and inexperienced recruits, but to the captain’s eyes, it is worth it. Their pride is definitely on the line. Nerves are all over the elevator as they try to master step by step, one last time, the parts in their minds. For some, this might be clockwork—watch, learn, dance, repeat. But its different today. A bunch is frightened and excited, as it signals the rise of the new crew. A few though, is melancholic and already nostalgic, after all, this is their last mid-year dance.

577, Central Boulevard, along Median Road
Pacific Medical Center and Institution
5:34 PM –basement parking; ELEVATOR EMERGENCY

The elevator music is on, but the lights are off. The nurse already called the emergency hotline while the man with her continuously plays on his phone. The nurse seems irritated, wasting time in here instead of serving and helping people, on top of it, an ignorant young adult who has yet to bat an eyelash on her is sitting there with no care. An hour has passed by. Visiting hours is almost already done. The nurse may not like to admit it but this was by far the longest break she got in this shift and that as the time progressed, she is entertained with the man’s antics. He isn’t ignorant, he’s just really finishing a game he can’t afford to lose even after an emergency. All his stories are interesting, somehow appropriate as start-up conversations for first dates. Dates. Would she consider that a date? The unanswered question is broken when the elevator jerks on with the lights. It’s safe to say; after that the elevator isn’t the only thing that is turned-on.

901, Central Boulevard
Midgard Hotel and Resort
8:50 PM –29th floor; DESCENDING

It was too quiet, almost deafening. A couple stood inside the elevator, strangers it may seem to an onlooker. I might have to repeat, they are a couple; both are nervous, but in different contexts. He was about to propose, inside this very elevator, he tried to be witty; it was something about him being in an elevator, a comparison to the box being the elevator and the ring being him. Of course, this is not the only thing he had in mind. He planned a perfect night just for him and his future fiancé.

The woman stood still inside the elevator, quite shaken. She knew what was about to happen, I mean, who would take her on a grand random date, at a random date? Definitely not her boyfriend. He was very sentimental, everything he did had a secret meaning. Accurate and precise, those were the words that could describe him. In other words, he was too much. Too accurate and precise for her. So, when he knelt down on one knee, and asked for her hand, she had to say no. She didn’t mean to be this harsh, this wasn’t the way she imagined them parting, with one knee on the ground and a leg out of the relationship. It was better this way, rather than she said yes and for her to hurt him more in the process, hurting herself too.

The look on his face was devastating. He was confused, what did she say? His ears were deceiving him, he had to laugh, was this a joke? Her eyes were filled with unreleased tears. Oh, apparently not. This was the first time he was inaccurate. His heart was broken, his heart was shattered. His heart was feeling everything, but all that he thought about, was the bill he will pay for later and how he could’ve used the money to buy the watch he saw last month.

Central Boulevard, the longest boulevard in the city. With its long stretch that is filled with variety, I now know what happens inside a lot in Central Boulevard.

Literary: If one had not

Today, let me tell you a tale
About eleven young boys bound to fail
All that is in them is lost and gone
Until an ultimate decision was done

News spread out about a job offering
A group of young men to be sent journeying
For a year or so, they must meet the demands
To satisfy and get recognition from all the lands

Hundreds applied for a spot in the team
For that chance to prove worth, their dream
But only the eleven boys who were bound to fail
Had their share of people watching in grand detail

If one had not been humored he would’ve stayed unknown
He could’ve been lurking on the sidelines, confused and alone
If one had not been charming he would’ve been zero
All his owned clothing tucked back in his bureau

If one had not been loud he would’ve been cut
His dream’s and aspiration’s chance are shut
If one had not strummed he would’ve broke down
People will continuously think he’s nothing but a clown

If one had not swayed he would’ve been broken
The pride of his, is slowly being stolen
If one had not smiled he would’ve been frowning
Had his shyness overcome anything he is fearing

If one had not understood he’d feel disappointment
He’d never feel the difference of people’s treatment
If one had not loved he would’ve felt betrayed
Having to keep up with hundred boys arrayed

If one had not been witty he would’ve felt dumb
He would have no choice but to give in and succumb
If one had not inhaled and exhaled he would’ve been plain
Confidence too small like a white shirt with a stain

If one had not been sent he would’ve been left
Nothing would stay even the soul’s heft
If all of them had not tried, it could’ve been an epiphany
Of seeing different boys deemed weird on the journey

Today, you let me tell you a tale
About eleven young boys bound to fail
All that is in them is lost and gone
Until an ultimate decision was done

With small things together make impact
Scattered concepts turned compact
Imagine what would happen to their life’s trail
If those eleven young boys inevitably fail

Literary: Art in Art

The music begins as you come into view
In a room under a light, focused on you
Brown eyes hidden under long unruly hair
In front of you is a coat hanger as your pair

Scene changes, as you dance in a room red in harmony
The beat of your steps hard unlike the velvet melody
Your eyes start to stare, finger pointing
Vibe’s as if I did something worth accusing

Yet it changes with you now wearing white
Contrast to the black space behind are eight masks alight
Creepy it might seem to others unaware
But I never took my eyes off as if it was a dare

You danced again, in a white room instead
Imagine what it feels to be enough for you to wed
A soft ambiance with a flashy visage
It was all simple, but you were a complex image

The next one appears as if you’re oil on canvas
You make sitting against a corner first-class
A pool of water rippling under your feet
Around you, pretty pansies and pasted papers meet

Then the walls turned concrete grey
Your mouth starts to move as you say,
“Tell me if even this pain isn’t real,
Back then, what was I supposed to feel?”

The last of the lyrics was fading slowly
Suede carpets placed under you softly
But nothing is seen besides your upside down figure
Under that delicate hand a face feels knowing yet pure

The lights go out as it was the conclusion
But again you appeared and that caused confusion
Wearing the same mask where your eyes peer
With a stream of an inky-black tear

After seeing a whole visual of museum-worthy art
I began seeing which one was apart
Everything around you was a masterpiece
But seeing you in everything was hard to miss

Literary: Litong Tanong x Siguradong Sagot

Litong Tanong

Marami akong gustong sabihin
Pero idinadaan ko sa tawa
Mga salitang ayaw bigyang-pansin
Nangangambang ika’y manawa

Hindi kailan man dumapo sa isip
Sa akin, puso’y ibibigay
Hanggang ngayon ay parang panaginip
Na puno ng di kilalang kulay

Bakit ngayon lang?
Ang una kong tanong
Kung kailan di na ako ilang
Sa iyong pakuwela’t pabulong

Sigurado ka ba
Sa kuwentong gusto mong buuin?
Ako bilang iyong kasama
Sa lahat ng likong tatahakin?

Siguro ayoko ng emosyon
Pambihira, kung iisipin
Hanggang ngayon walang kumpirmasyon
Kung ano ang sigaw ng damdamin

Sana’y maunawan ang aking mga kilos
Kung ikaw man ay naguguluhan
Maiintindihan kung pasensya’y maubos
Dahil alam kong alam mo na takot akong masaktan

Kilala mo na siguro kung sino ako
Sa tagal na ng ating nilakbay
Kaya ang huli kong tanong sa iyo
Kaya mo bang maghintay?

Siguradong Sagot

Marami ka pang hindi sinasabi
Na iyong dinadaan sa mga tawa
Kaya’t ako’y mananatili
Hanggang sa ika’y makasama

Kung ito’y isang panaginip
Na puno ng di kilalang kulay
Aking ipakikilala sa ‘yong isip
Ang ganda na kanilang taglay

Mahirap mang isipin
Na tila di tayo pinagtagpo
Ngunit maaari naman nating tahakin
Ang panibagong liko, ikaw at ako

Hindi ba’t sinabi ko sa ‘yo
Na marahan kong kakatukin
Ang iyong natutulog na puso
At maghihintay na iyong papasukin

Hindi ko naman hinihingi
Na agaran mong pagbibigyan
Kaya ‘wag ka sanang magmadali
Sa pagsigurado ng ‘yong nararamdaman

Hindi ako naguguluhan
Sa ‘yong mga pigil na pagkilos
Dahil aking nauunawaan
Na ayaw mo lang magpadalos-dalos

Sa layo na ng ating nalakbay
Ang sagot ko’y marahil alam mo na
Kahit gaano katagal ako’y maghihintay
Dahil sa puso ko, ika’y nag-iisa

Literary: My Valentine

Red, everywhere is all I see
On the streets, the net and on TV
Hearts, cupids that float above
Things most associated with love

Bitter, I may sound and seem
But all of this is for me is a bad dream
Seeing couples around me, all lovey dovey
Wow the single life is fun, aren’t I lucky

As I walk the road towards my next destination
I can’t help but sigh in desperation
Yes, I do admit I’m a bit lonely
Lord, when will I ever get my “honey”

Time continues as I reach home-stretch
The road’s ambiance trailed with my unfortunate etch
Why did I ever think I’d get a flower from you today
When I don’t even get a hey any day

The exhaustion sits once I enter my house
My energy truly unaroused
Sure it’s too early but I just want to sleep
Enjoy my slumber, exploring a dream deep

I lay on my pillow, my eyes already shut
When I feel a lump under, a rectangular cut
I pulled the thing out, it was a chocolate box
I got a bit annoyed, who dare mocks?!

It said, “Hey, little fox, it’s me, your dad,
Today is a special day so don’t be sad.
I know you think that we see you as fine
But always remember that, I am here,
Your first Valentine.

Literary: 7th Catch

Tall and dorky,
Pulls jokes out of his pockets
Good catch, if I do say so myself
Yet I left him

Smart, knows music
Like the back of his hand, serene
Good catch, again.
Yet I left him

The life of the party
His smile can blind from a mile
Good catch, I’d be damned
Yet I left him

Mysterious and a snob
But cares like you’re his world
Good catch, maybe more
Yet I left him

Soft, like the cuddles he gives
Eyes go missing when he grins
Good catch, close enough
Yet I left him

A champ, everything he does
Is a walk in the park
Good catch, perfect
Yet I left him

He’s monochrome yet he’s art
He’s broken yet he’s beautiful
He’s boring, but he’s home
So I stayed

Literary: Remember

Ever since we were young
We’ve had this thing called rivalry

Chocolates
Remember the chocolates
Dad brought me?
I was sure it was mine
But you took it suddenly

As soon as I saw the chocolates he brought
I knew you’d like it so I rushed to get the bar
But when I was about to give it to you
You started walking away and now your back’s too far

Clothes

Remember my favorite dress?
That pink piece of clothing
You always loved to wear
Even without my permission

I really thought that dress was nice
Especially when you always use it
So I thought that if I wore it, too
I’d be half as beautiful as you

Crush

Remember when I had this huge crush?
I was sure enough that he likes me, too
But then I saw you alone together
It broke my heart because I trusted you

I was rooting for you two
He had a thing for you, and I know you had for him, too
I was trying just trying to help you get closer
But it turned out to be a total disaster

Conversation

Remember the day when everything went wrong
When all that was left was you and I
Our parents said their last words to me
Is that why you were angry at me?

I was on my way to call the nurse
But they were gone when we were about to return
They should have spent their last moments with me
Not with you

And after all these years,
Death and time did their thing
And made us understand everything

I still remember it all
From the chocolates to the crushes we've fought over
All I can say is I’m sorry
I was not a good sister to you
I should've been more patient
I should’ve deepened my understanding
How I wish I could turn back time
To tell you how I love you dearly
And to show you how thankful I am
To have a sister like you

I should have told you long before
A secret that was kept from you
The reason why they spent their last moment with me
Was because they told me to cherish our time together
I had this thing that was terminal
And I had little time left
Though it’s now too late,
I still wish I could wind back the clock
To tell you how I love you dearly
And to show you how thankful I am
To have a sister like you

Literary: Royal Flush

Watching you intently, as you set up our game,
A game we have played a million times before.
Still, we stare into each other challenging,
But hesitant and unsure of what to do next.

Trying to strategize the turn I’m about to make,
My hand started to feel clammy.
Unlike my mind that is squeezed dry,
From imagining how this could work.

The gears in my head stopped instantly,
As if your hand above mine, was the brake I needed.
Looking you in the eye,
In there was the assurance I’ve been waiting for.

Sighing, I took the risk.
Tightening my grip on your hand,
I laid it all out, while saying;
“Your move.”
