Literary: Leave Nothing Behind
The beginning to what end?
The curtains part to reveal the set
Spotlights blaze with a flick of a switch
A wave of music assaults the ears
They all wait in anticipation
They say the world is a massive stage
They say life is a performance
What performance?
Yet what do you owe the world?
Why should you care about what they think of you?
What kindness would push you to bequeath anything to them?
In the end, there is no consequence
If you’ve confidence in what you do
You could care or couldn’t care
There is no right or wrong
Or a correct way to live life
And leave life
There is only chatter and static around us
In the end, what you do is up to you
The Sin of Selflessness
People work so hard to leave something behind
Part by part, they shatter
Into infinitesimal dust to be whisked away
People work so hard to lose themselves in the process
Did you do it for them?
Did you do it for you?
What sorrow it must be to spend so much time and effort
To only realize
You did everything for someone
But they would never do the same for you
The Virtue of Selfishness
Yet it would matter had you done it for you
If everything you’ve done, you’ve done it for you too
It matters not
If you sang to a stadium full of people
It matters not
If only a few people cared to watch you dance
It matters not
If only one person saw your story
What matters is you take what you have and run with it
Even if the only person who reads what you write
Is you
To Whatever End
Leave nothing behind,
Except the hurt, the pain, the baggage
Take everything that made a difference
What doesn’t count might as well never existed
Seize only what you need
No matter what, do it for you
Do it for you
The end… for a beginning?
Did I do it for me?
Did I do it for you?
And yet still, thank you
Had you stayed ‘til the end and read
I leave everything that I wrote to you
May it serve you well
And if not,
Well it’s not like I really wrote it for you
I only wished that perhaps with every word I wrote
I’d have left the pain behind,
To move forward
Leave nothing behind,
And always move forward
