The UPIS Administration (Admin) and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) are taking steps to address and prevent the spread of the 2019 nCoV in the school, announced Asst. Principal Prof. Portia Dimabuyu last Tuesday, February 4, 2020.

The 2019 novel coronavirus, was first reported in Wuhan, China. The first reported death outside China is from the Philippines. It can infect people by human-to-human contact or via respiratory droplets. Studies are still being done to confirm if it is an airborne disease.

Hand soaps in all comfort rooms are being provided by the Admin and PTA for students to maintain their good hygiene.

As an additional precautionary measure against 2019-nCoV, every person entering UPIS will be checked for their temperature at the gate throughout the duration of the UPIS Fair.

Students are encouraged to wear a face mask and observe proper hygiene. In addition, students are also asked to bring their own small bottles of alcohol or hand sanitizer, avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth without washing their hands, eat nutritious food and drink vitamins, drink lots of water, get at least eight hours of sleep, stay at home as much as possible, and get a check-up if any of the virus’ symptoms is present.

The common signs of 2019-nCoV include fever and respiratory symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath, and difficulty breathing. It can also cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), and kidney failure. As of now, a cure and/or vaccine has not yet been discovered.

According to ABS-CBN News last February 5, there are 3 confirmed cases of the disease in the country. One of the three died last February 1, Saturday. Due to the panic and fear of the Filipinos, the supply of face masks and alcohol is running low.
