This was in celebration of his 163rd birthday on February 22, 2020.

Representatives from the Star Scouts, Kabataan Alay sa Bayan (KAB) Scouts, Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP), and Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) commenced the program by reciting the scouts’ promises and laws.

Afterwards, UPIS Principal and Institutional Head of the UPIS Institutional Scouting Committee (ISCOM), Dr. Lorina Y. Calingasan, Vice Chairman of BSP National Council International Committee, Sctr. William P. Chavez, and ISCOM Institutional Chairman, Sctr. Matthew R. Doronila marched with a wreath of flowers and placed it on a table dedicated to B-P.

Mr. Chavez, in his speech, recounted the life of B-P and the lessons it imparts to scouts and young students.

“Attitude is most important to us, not knowledge, it's still attitude," he said.

He also gave recognition to the 8 delegates of UPIS BSP in the International Scout Ski Camp.

Mr. Molave Macapagal, Coordinator of UPIS Senior Boy Scouts and former faculty Prof. Delia H. Soro, who acts as the liaison of UPIS to the Quezon City Council, is also present at the event.

B-P was a British soldier and national hero who started scouting through a camp held at Brownsea Island in 1907. He also wrote the book, “Scouting for Boys”. //by Lester Amurao and Reneil Grimaldo
