It was a tempestuous time—
The air became a whirl of debris as the winds blew hard.
The world, drained of colour, turned to grey,
Pierced only on occasion by stark white flashes.
Naught could be heard except
A cacophony of pain:
The rains battered on the earth steady as a drumbeat,
The winds howled and shrieked a wordless song,
And the thunder, every once in a while, clapped — a resounding bass.
The world was falling apart.

But there we were—
Standing in the eye of the hurricane
With you in my eyes and I in yours,
Finding solace in each other’s presence as
The world fell away.
We stood where the air was calm,
You and I sharing the same breath,
Finding warmth and comfort in each other as
The moment took hold.

And there we were—
Two people finding peace
With each other
Amidst difficulty and chaos
Heedless of whatever pain
The world brought.
