Literary: She Stole My Thunder

I remember how
My mother slowly brushed
The hair off my face
And how her voice
Made me recall
The calmness of the sea
We were like friends
Sharing our own
Thoughts and secrets
And hearing our own
Ridiculous laughter blend
The conversation went on
Until 12 am
And for my grade three self
It was late back then
I felt the imminent possibility
Of her bringing it up
Because we talked about life
And what lies ahead
My guts were right
Because she confessed
That she’s totally okay
That I swing both ways
And on that summer night
I finally knew
That I’d be able
To find solace
