Literary: Final Resting Place

'twas the dead of a winter night
and there I was, sitting alone
at the corner of the street
awaiting death, whom I'll gladly greet

don't get me wrong,
I enjoy living as much as the next guy
but in death, all suffering is left behind
and you'd be granted a fate so kind

the world used to be so welcoming;
I fondly remember my childhood days,
when everything was brighter
and life's burdens seemed lighter

life's burdens seemed lighter,
but it was nothing but an illusion;
a sweet lie to cover up the irony
of this thing called reality

looking at my tiny makeshift frame
I realized how much the times changed
and with the last of my strength
I thank the fates for ending my torment

my vision started to blur
thoughts faded one by one
and my consciousness is slowly slipped
as the end of my time in this world neared

I envisioned myself back home
for the first time, it felt so real
to be back after so many years
I just couldn't hold back the tears

a warm summer breeze blew past
and I felt my spirit renewed,
as if life opened a new door;
I began to walk once more

moments after taking the first steps
I found the courage to look back
a smirk replaced the smile on my face
as I stumble upon my final resting place
