Dear Blank
Hotdog
Hi Blank ako nga pala si ano…
May aaminin sana ako sa’yo.
Wag kang magagalit ha.
Sana wag kang mailang sa akin.
Sana wag mo akong layuan.
Sikreto lang ha?
Sa ating dalawa lang ‘to.
Matagal ko na kasing gustong sabihin ito.
Kaso nahihiya ako.
Ang totoo niyan,
Ma…. hal…..
Umm… mahal…
Mahal kasi ‘yung sa project.
Puwede pautang muna?
Babayaran ko na lang.
Promise.

Structural-Functional
Deconstruction
Ayon kay Roland Barthes, “the author is dead.”

“Aigoo! Pag may tiyaga, may Bok Chicken.
Fighting! // nina Jaja Ledesma, Paola Pagulayan at Layla Wadi

Hey, hey MC Peeps here! Since summer is in full swing, we decided to enrich our creativity under the blessing of the sun. So we thought of fun and fresh things to do and lo and behold we thought of one that will definitely make use of our passion for fashion. And that is what we are going to show you peepz tonight! Tonight, we are turning our plain summer uniforms into magical, trendsetting, and fabulous OOTDs! Without further ado, I’m now goin’ to show you 4 simple and easy styles to turn our summer uniforms into a blast! So without further ado, let’s get started!
First, let them die! Oh wait up! By dying, I mean tie-dye! Apply what you learned in PA 6 and imagine just how these dyes can turn your shirt into something cool and pleasing to the eyes. Just in time for summer! This design is suitable for both girls and boys! Kaya you can have couple shirts with your crush din! #UniformGoals
Next, cut them into two! Oh I mean cut the sleeves into two to turn our shirt into a tank top. Show off those sexy shoulders and nagsisiputukang muscles that you’ve been working hard for years. But don’t forget to keep your underarms clean and fresh! I recommend using tawas to keep the B.O. and darkness away from your kili-kili. This design is recommended for boys.
The third design is what we called the Wolverine Style inspired by the sharp and dangerous claws of Wolverine that could shred literally anything. These many butas also give off a cooling effect to whoever dares to wear this masterpiece kaya it’s really perfect for the intense summer heat. It’s also perfect for the guys out there with yummy pandesals, iykwim.
The fourth and final one is what we call the Pre-debut Photoshoot Style inspired by Aladdin’s carpet that flies away whenever there’s a strong wind. The summer winds will make the flap fly ,fly, away just like Mang Aladdin’s carpet. This flap flap away thing also serves a dual purpose by acting as a pamaypay when the heat is just so intense you can’t take it anymore. This design is perfect for the sassy girls.
So what are you waiting for? Slay them with your OOTDs and show them the real meaning of LIT.
Hope you enjoyed our video! Don’t forget to hit the like button and the subscribe button as well. Anyway, see you on our next video and please remember that the views and opinion in this video do not reflect that of the MC and our school.

Kaya pa, may maibubuga pa. Don’t underestimate me mga tsong.”
“Grabehan, KKLK, Lit sila sobra. Paglabas nila nung dugout kaninang half time parang mababangis, at tila nag-aalab silang mandirigma.
// nina Carlos Laderas, Nathan Ramos at Jaggie Gregorio

Abangan. // nina Nathan Ramos at Zach Jugo

Ani nito, “OMG! Di ako makapaniwala na these boys are beating my signature ‘Tsunami Walk.’ Kabog ako bes, props to them ha.”
Masakit, trulagence, pero you have to endure the pain para manalo. Bukod pa sa masakit, nalurkey akez kasi nasira niya yung bagong paayos kong nails. Pero all for the team talaga,” paglalahad niya.
#UPakGanern // nina Enzo Bautista at Forth Soriano
Spoof Sports: Kyete named Cart Racing Grand Prix Legend

Showcasing an exceptional amount of speed and determination, Kyete came out victorious and was thus proclaimed the first ever Cart Racing Grand Prix Legend in the first ever Cart Racing Grand Prix, held in the Super Mega Ultra Arena.
Despite not having much rest in between, Kyete came out on top in the 3K, 5K, and 1K meter run, in short, all of the events. They were all tightly-contested races but he was still able to post record numbers that will last a lifetime.
Kyete clocked in at 9 minutes in the 3K run, 8 minutes and 30 seconds in the 5K, and an outstanding time of 8 minutes (you saw it right, 8 freaking minutes!) in the 10k run while only spilling 1 cup of gulaman in the process.
Like all other contestants, Kyete was given a cart with 50 (yes 50!) cups of gulaman in it. The goal is to not spill the gulaman while pushing the cart as fast as they can. The first person to reach the finish line with the most cups of gulaman in the cart intact wins the race.
Snakgaroo, the owner of the limited edition flying carts, indestructible suspensions and bulletproof set of wheels, is the event’s principal sponsor and the main reason why there is an event in the first place.
Asked about how he was feeling right after the race, Kyete said: “I actually did well even though I did not complete my training during the off-season. I even banged my knee hard during the 10k but I knew I could finish it. I could not say that I did my best because I’m not a hundred percent but hey I’m bringing home the bacon and that’s what matters the most right? And oh yeah shoutout to my fans, my family, friends and my pet rabbit, Hamber! Got 3 gold medals so we bout to pour some champagne tonight at my place ayt?!?”
We also got an insight on what coach Lactumniss thought on Kyete’s performance: “Man am I honored to have coached the greatest that ever lived. He is a sure fire hall of famer in my book. Someone special will have to be in the same conversation as him. Come on, he won 3 gold medals with a broken freaking knee!”
As bonus rewards, Kyete was given a 6 month free pass in the Super Mega Ultra Arena, 3 kilograms of sago (but no gulaman) and he was rewarded all the carts (and I mean all) used in the competition.
This will truly go down in history as the greatest set of performances put on by an individual. The next grand prix will be held sometime during the summer break. Will somebody be able to match up to the Phenomenal Kyete? I guess we’ll find out! // by Nathan Ramos and Zach Jugo

Gusto kong i-push ang pagkakapantay-pantay among people. Di ba sikat ang equality for all, whoever you are.
It just breaks my heart. I care for all the students. I care for our education, especially I care for equality.
Let's all start using the hashtag #Lockandinangmgateacherskapagnalalatesila and see the change we have done for the world. Let's all love equality, love each other, love latecomers, and love yourself. // nina Hanzvic Dellomas at Hillary Fajutagana

Bet?
O kaya Pasko? O sa Andres Bonifacio Day? O sa Chinese New Year? Eh sembreak? Bakit walang sembreak uniform?!
#UPISRepresent // nina Aldous dela Peña at Hannah Manalo

// nina Maica Cabrera at Hanna David

Tinaguriang “The Resbak Dab-King” ang naturang estudyante. / nina Hanzvic Dellomas, Beca Sinchongco

“Childhood memories are sometimes covered and obscured beneath the things that come later, like childhood toys forgotten at the bottom of a crammed adult closet…” wrote Neil Gaiman in The Ocean at the end of the Lane.
I told a friend once that I was afraid of forgetting things. Memories are important. They make a person who they are.
Even more important are childhood memories. They come from a time of innocence, joy, and careless frolic – a time when the Earth, to quote Wordsworth, “did seem appareled in celestial light.” We can look fondly upon them when we are all grown up and adults, to escape from whatever woes may befall us.
Sometimes, however, there seems to be nothing to remember. There are no adventures, no dragons defeated, and no damsels rescued. Perhaps it is a fault of memory, or perhaps it is a fault of childhood itself.
There are times when friends tell me of their childhood. They tell me of how their mothers read them to sleep, how they played with their childhood friends, or about whatever misadventures they’ve had. As I hear all these wonderful stories, I cannot help but feel jealous. Whenever I try and look back, I am greeted by nothingness.
I am a writer, and it is sad and sorry for me to be in such a state. It is a writer’s duty to record the human experience, and to help keep humanity’s collective memory. Childhood is such a crucial time in a person’s life, and for a writer to not have a memory of his is woe upon him. It is one of the most basic things that a writer can draw from – the simple joys of youth and its lackadaisical manner.
I am also a reader, and it is sad and sorry for me to be in such a state. Readers are well-versed in tales and stories from the various things they’ve read. To have no recollection of one’s own story is woe upon him, for knowing about a thousand lives is nothing if one can’t tell one’s own.
It is a difficult life, having forgotten one’s childhood. It is a comfort lost. Most people can take solace in their memories of youth – of how they were cared for, or how they enjoyed themselves – but I cannot.
But perhaps there is hope:

Whenever I close my eyes, I could still hear the smooth tones of the saxophone, together with the staccato of the piano from the elevator music. I could still smell the refreshing lilac scent of the hotel rooms; I could still feel my childhood. But I have to open my eyes.
This is the story of my life when hotels used to be my castles. These are the 5 things I miss the most about the fairytale that I had to let go of:
1. The magical sights of high ceilings and chandeliers.
Stepping inside a hotel and taking in the beautiful interiors is one of my favorite sights to capture. It made me feel like a princess living in a castle of flowers and diamonds, so moving on from this phase in my life is blinding.

2. The smell of air-con and fancy things
Whenever I go to a mall, I become nostalgic. The smell of fresh air conditioning in malls is similar to the scent of a hotel. If there is a perfume of this certain smell, I would definitely buy some.

3. The comfy beds, carpets, walls, everything
I really miss the feeling of the soft hotel beds and velvety couches. I still remember rolling on literally everything as a child and I have to say I regret nothing.

4. The taste of never-lasting expensive food
Since my father is a hotel employee, the perks of working in a hotel is wads of discounts and winning in raffles! In the past years he won some free passes for a family dinner buffet at Heat in Shangri-La which back then served my favorite sushi, pasta, and ice cream.

5. The love we get from family bonding
The purpose of our staying in hotels is to relax, have fun, and spend some quality time with the family. I will never forget the priceless memories we made and that’s why this is the thing I miss the most. I would like to bring back our tradition of checking-in to hotels to bring back the strong bond and love of our family.

I miss being a princess of hotels. But princesses are just like normal kids. Eventually, we have to grow up. Yes, being a child is one of the best feelings but instead of trying to escape adulthood, trying to bring back the good old times, I should just be thankful for the kind of childhood I had and the wonderful times of my life I’ll never forget. //by Yumi dela Torre

More than two decades have passed since the love story of an odd girl living in a small village and a cursed prince enchanted the hearts of viewers. Now, sixteen years later, Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast will take you on a magical journey filled with fascinating animations and Broadway vibes that will make you want to sing, dance, live, and love.
Launched in the country last March 16, the movie was warmly welcomed by fans and newcomers alike. Years after playing Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter franchise, Emma Watson stars as the lovely Belle who unexpectedly meets the frightening Beast, played by Dan Stevens. Celebrities such as Josh Gad, the voice of Olaf from Disney’s Frozen, provide the comedic side of the movie while the narcissistic evil antagonist Gaston is brought to life by Luke Evans. Joining the remarkable cast are popular personalities Ian McKellen, Emma Thompson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ewan McGregor, and the adorable Nathan Mack who voiced talking ornaments Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, Featherduster, Lumiere, and Chip, respectively. Directed by Academy-Award winning director Bill Candon, the movie has amassed around $690 million dollars since its global premiere.
A tale as old as time
The story of the Beauty and the Beast is instilled forever in the hearts of every Disney fan. Seeing it in live-action made us feel nostalgic about our childhood and made our inner child’s hearts light up knowing that the plot stayed close to what we expected.
During a ball teeming with the wealthy and the elegant, the handsome prince of the castle was faced with the dilemma of dealing with an old lady asking for help. Little did he know that his response to this seemingly trivial encounter would change his life, and those of his people, too. On the other side of the story enters Belle, a girl who, with her books and inquisitive nature, is deemed quite different from everyone else in her village. The fates of these two characters are tied as Belle comes to her father’s rescue after being caught unawares in the prince’s castle.
Unbeknownst to them both, this was the start of a romance that is deeper than skin and a love that sees with the heart, and the rest of the story unfolds in a flurry of strange encounters, musical numbers, and unexpected discoveries.
A song as old as rhyme
This movie didn’t just bring us to a trip down memory lane; it also brought an exemplary whole-package experience to its audience. All of the songs that were sung expressed genuine emotions, making its listeners feel the shift from one lyric to another. Aside from this, the cinematography of the film was beyond what we expected. The colors weren’t at all binary and each frame in the film gave us a clear depiction of what was really happening in the actual scene. We also commend how they presented this classic fairytale in a more realistic and thrilling approach.
The costume and design deserve praises, too. It made believe that what we were watching then was really happening in Paris in the 1700s.
In addition, the cast must be commended for their incredible performance. No matter how small or big their part is, they have this energy that makes the whole picture come to life. It felt as if there were no lead, supporting, and extra actors or actresses because every one of them performed their hearts out. And we believe that these are the small contributions that make a great movie.
A dream come true
We never expected to see the 1991 animation to come to life so vividly. The movie that was once a child’s storybook was turned into something big, influential, and magical. Because this movie wasn’t just made for popularity or fame, it is also a call to every girl to look up to and be like Belle. Watson perfectly portrayed her as a strong, independent woman that would never let a man stand in her way. Also, Belle showed the lengths that one would go for family, especially since her father was all she had left.
Beauty and the Beast also left us an important message in life: we should treat everyone equally, regardless of their looks. We should look deeper than what we see on the surface. Also, it gives people the idea that selfishness is not something you should keep inside heart. We must give, and give, and give as it is the key that will lead us to our happily ever after.
Watching this movie was truly a complete escape from reality. We were enchanted by the capability of one kind soul to change a cold-hearted beast. And we want all of you to watch it and to see the wonders of love and all its magic. //by Hanna David, Jo-ev Guevarra and Zach Jugo

President Duterte wants capital punishment reinstated to deter people from committing crimes. Citing a news report, the president said in Filipino, “When [death penalty] was abolished, there was an increase of 3000% (heinous crimes). And they say it’s not a deterrent?”
Capital punishment was first ‘abolished’ in the Philippines by the 1987 Constitution. It was then reinstated by President Fidel Ramos with RA 7659, citing an increased criminality in the Philippines. It was effective for thirteen years until President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo signed RA 9346 in 2004, citing a “high moral impetus dictated by God to walk away from capital punishment.”
Currently, House Bill 4727 or the Death Penalty Bill is being debated in the House of Representatives. Twenty-one crimes were originally listed as punishable by death but plunder was removed. The Church and human rights advocates have expressed their opposition to the bill.
In its current state, the Philippines should not have a law permitting capital punishment. It would be immoral, unethical, and unjust for such to come into being. The Philippines is plagued by corruption and is run by those who do not care about the people. Why should they be trusted to wield power over life and death?
Proponents argue that this will impose fear upon would-be felons and criminals. This may seem logical, as people generally fear death above all, thus they would think twice before committing crimes. However no studies have found conclusively that capital punishment reduces crime rates within an area.
The 21 ‘heinous’ crimes for which capital punishment will be allowed seem to be ill-thought of. What basis was used in choosing which crimes should be punishable by death? Is the possession of 10 grams of opium or marijuana resin something whose punishment should be equal to infanticide and rape? It is unfair to give a person using, or even just possessing minor drugs harming no-one but oneself the same sentence as those who committed murder, or theft at the scale of plunder.
It is a heavy criminal punishment placed on drug addiction, a disease treatable with proper support. The mentally ill who do not have the sufficient presence of mind can also commit crimes punishable by death. An incompetent court may sentence them to death when medical aid would be more humane.
There is, however, a benefit to capital punishment. Resources used to keep prisoners on life sentence alive and healthy could be used for better projects, including education, healthcare, and infrastructure. It is well-known that corruption abounds in the government, though. These resources will more likely be reallocated not into public services, but into lining the pockets of corrupt officials.
Additionally, the justice system is flawed. In a 2004 decision, the Supreme Court noted that “the cases where the judgement of death has either been modified or vacated consisted of an astounding 71.77% of the total death penalty cases directly elevated before the Court.”
Had no intervention occurred, 651 people would have been wrongfully killed, out of the 907 sentenced. Proponents may argue that these cases were stopped back then, and future cases will be likewise stopped, but the cases cited in the statistic happened over a span of eleven years. Duterte intends “five to six” executions daily. Would the Supreme Court be able to handle a workload this large, not mentioning other cases it needs to oversee?
A 2004 Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG) report also said that 73.1% of death row inmates earned P10,000 or less, with the majority earning below minimum wage. Is the higher amount of poor death row inmates because the poor commit more heinous crimes, or because they are less able to pay for their defense?
Allowing capital punishment to be reinstated, therefore, is nothing but codifying extra-judicial killings into law – turning the unjust and unlawful into the unjust and lawful. It is giving the ability to take the lives of the weak to those with power.
Proponents of this, like the president, cannot see beyond their own noses. They are so caught up in their fantasies of saving the nation with an iron fist that they fail to see the repercussions or obstacles.
Before such a drastic measure is imposed, it must first be made sure that it will be done in a way that minimizes the number of innocents harmed and that its application will truly help solve crime. Will countless deaths lead to peace and reduced crime rates, or more suffering as corruption is given a mightier sword to wield against the people?
Should we immediately go for the most drastic measure against crime, when we have not attempted a less ruthless, and more humane way to solve it? Should we combat crime by brute force, ignoring and letting fester the social ills which force people into it? What is the due process of the law when those upholding it act against the common man?
If Duterte and other proponents of capital punishment succeed in their wish, no problems will be solved, at the cost of lives – not just human lives, but Filipino lives. //by Craig Aquino

A school is an institution built to educate and equip the students for their future careers. In order to fulfill the functions of the school, students are given projects, seatworks, homework, and group works as requirements. Each subject has its own set of requirements every school year.
In an article from The Washington Post, it was observed that there is a difference between the attitude of first graders and sixth graders towards school work. First graders were generally more enthusiastic while sixth graders lacked interest regarding school activities and perhaps also towards school itself. Sixth graders were discouraged from performing well because of certain factors like competition and pressure from their family and peers. This may also be the result of having different activities between the lower and higher grade levels. With this said, we may connect it to the attitude of UPIS high school students concerning school requirements.
As we move up to the next grade levels, work becomes heavier and more difficult than before. It is observed in the classroom setting that when a teacher introduces a project, students tend to complain about the deadline or the nature of the project. You’ll hear various sounds of disapproval in the class. Some complain and suggest adjustments for the deadline. There are also some unnecessary comments that may be excessive and disrespectful to the teachers. This kind of attitude towards work is observed more than ever in UPIS.
This attitude should not be tolerated or encouraged because the purpose of school work is to shape and prepare the students to not only be successful, but also well-rounded. Also, students who are more engaged in their work learn more and are more prepared for their future endeavors. Determination, focus, and eagerness are key attitudes in being more engaged in doing schoolwork.
In line with this, it's only natural for students to complain about the heavy work load, the deadlines and repetitive kinds of projects. It is inevitable to complain but students should react in a courteous way to the work load given to them. If you have any complaints, why not suggest new ideas to teachers? Not only will this help the class, but it will also help the teacher improve, and help their future students in having better educational experiences. One could also write in the teachers' evaluation forms about their comments, yet still remain respectful. Teachers should also consider these suggested ideas and come up with innovative projects that will pique the interest of the students. Projects may be in a form of making a game, a campaign, a creative production, a contest, and other projects that will spark the creativity of the students.
Students should identify their motivation in doing their schoolwork to have a better attitude towards it. Being motivated changes the mindset of the students because it makes them give more effort in their work. This source of motivation may be a dream college, an award, or a specific goal in life. Students may also be inspired from the encouragement and appreciation of their families and friends.
Everything that we learn in school, including our attitude towards work, trains us to be able to perform well in the future. High school is a simulation of college and employment life and having a positive outlook will be useful in both. In addition to this, loving our work will change our disposition. Being knowledgeable is indeed a great quality we students must have, but determination and good behavior is essential to achieve our goals and dreams. //by LM Gacad and Rachel Siringan

Improvements to some UPIS facilities continue in the next few weeks.
The renovation of the UPIS Bulwagan 3-6 is expected to begin as soon as Jesus Asuncion Builder, the project’s contractor, obtains the permit to start from the UP Office of the Campus Architect (OCA).

SET. With its interior finally cleared, the Bulwagan 3-6 is now ready for its
renovations to begin. Photo Credit: Suzy Uy |
According to Assistant Principal for Administration (APA) Prof. Melanie Donkor, the refurbishments were rompted by invasive tree roots which caused cracks and ridges in the structure’s flooring. The Bulwagan shall be revamped so as to minimize potential future damage that may be caused by the tree roots. DENR did not permit the cutting of the tree.
The project is tagged at P2.6 million and funding will come from the P20 million budget allocated to UPIS for the construction and renovation of its facilities.
Entrances and exits to the 3-6 campus may be diverted in order to ensure safety during the renovation.
On the other hand, construction of the UPIS Gym is expected to finish on April 22, 2017.

Meanwhile, renovations of the UPIS Auditorium continue, with its walls currently being painted and prepared for soundproofing. Funding will come from the P20 million-budget allocated to UPIS for the capital outlay and realignment of the green perimeter fence while bidding for the new air conditioning units and theatre seats is still ongoing.

Magkunwari tayong may tayo pa
Mamahalin kita kahit walang kasiguraduhan
Minahal kita mula simula hanggang dulo.
