One hundred eighteen Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) from the University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS) attended their annual camp held this year at Gintung Pakpak Eco Park, Mt. Arayat, Pampanga from April 20 to 23.
This year’s camp with the theme Siklab aimed to ignite the scouts’ sense of nationality and to show the true essence of being a Filipina. The cadets included new activities which highlighted the Filipino culture, such as using the sangkayaw, dancing the tinikling, and learning the baybayin.
Traditional activities that tested and enriched the scouts’ senses, teamwork, physical strength, and intellect, such as the Overall Sensory Test (OST), sports fest, and patrol and batch team buildings were also done.
“Sa kabila ng lahat ng pagod, nangingibabaw pa rin ang saya at karangalan na nararamdaman namin dahil sa mga pasasalamat at malalaking ngiti na binigay sa amin ng mga scouts,” said Rizza Mae Cabrera, president of the UPIS GSP. “Marami silang pagdadaanang hamon, pero naniniwala kaming kaya itong lagpasan ng future cadets, dahil nakita namin kung paano sila naihanda ng GSP para maging isang cadet,” she added.//by Bea Jacinto and Geraldine Tingco
