First
Spot me on the menu-
Appealing aren’t I?
Tell the barista you want me,
The cuppa that caught your eye,

Next
Take me from
The barista’s hands
Be oblivious to the fact
That you treat me with nonchalance.

Then
Place me on the table.
Take an artsy shot—
Add a filter
Hold me up to your face
And let your lips teeter
On my brink
Get your tongue burnt
when you try to drink me.

So
Put me, again, on the table
Laugh at your stupidity
Or take a deep breath
And this time,
Drink me slowly,
Like you can drink me until I’m gone

Suddenly
Find me too bitter
Too bland,
Or maybe
Too sweet.

Finally
Spot tea on the menu –
Don’t I look rotten
Next to it?
So
Leave me on the table
Forgotten

While you order another drink.
