The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) held their annual camp alongside the KAB (Kabataan Alay sa Bayan) scouts’ Father and Son camp at the Falcon Crest Resort in Norzagaray, Bulacan from April 12 to April 14.
The scouts went for a side-trip at Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto before arriving at the campsite where they split to separately hold their camps.
The Junior BSP annual camp aims to help scouts in their advancements and serves as an evaluation of their acquired skills throughout their previous camps.
One highlight of the camp was the campfire activity featuring the yells, cheers, and skits of each patrol themed with heroism in celebration of the Araw ng Kagitingan earlier that week.
There were also a lecture-series on first aid and disaster preparedness and an interview to prepare them in getting higher scouting ranks and to determine the next scout leaders.
The Junior Scouts also participated in the traditional movie screening and bravery test, an obstacle course, an orienteering, a joint flag ceremony with the KAB scouts, and a boodle fight.
On the other hand, the Father and Son camp aims to prepare the KAB scouts for joining the BSP while strengthening the bond of parent and son.
Divided into four color groups, Dilawan, Luntian, Pulahan, and Bughawan, the KAB scouts took part in KABsulong, a four-station race which they were able to finish despite rainfall, and KABsaya, a mock campfire gathering.
The KAB scouts also went hiking, enjoyed the resort’s amenities, had a one-on-one talk with their parents, went through an obstacle course, swam in the resort’s pool, and had a boodle fight. A meeting was also held by the teachers and parents to elect four parents of Grade 2 scouts as members of the Kawan committee made up of parents and teachers who plan the activities of the KAB scouts.
After a joint Palm Sunday mass on the last day, the BSP and the KAB scouts held their awarding ceremonies. During the BSP awarding, Group Leon won Best Campsite, Best Totem, and shared the Best in Uniform Inspection award with Group Tamaraw. Group Tigre was awarded as Best in Campfire. Group Buwaya, which garnered the most points, received the awards for Best in Gadget Making and Best in Orienteering. Best Camper honors went to Anakin Beau Capili (Grade 5).
For the KAB scouts, Group Bughawan was awarded for having the most points from the activities. Ryan Tapel (Grade 3) and his father, Roque Tapel, were the Best Boy Camper and Father Leader Duo. Juno Valencia (Grade 3) was recognized as the Most Active Camper.
“...They (had) more time to spend with their friends and their kapwa boy scouts. I think and believe that they (had) fun and they learned a lot of course,” according to Mr. Alfred Pelenio, the adviser of the BSP. // by Lester Amurao, Simon Delfinado, Justin Polendey, and Joshua Sales
