Literary: Aliens

We used to speak our own tongues.
As if stranger beings from worlds beyond,
We spoke in different sorts of dashes and dots.
Mankind would stare at us disapprovingly,
As they try to decode the underlying alien words
Of the language that was only ours.

We had our own dimensions,
Where the time we spent together was relative,
And matter gravitated towards the couch.
The popcorn bowl was at the mercy of our black holes
And the laptop served as our source of light,
While we observed humans through their reality shows.

We used to build worlds together.
Despite the terrain proving to be unfit
For smooth and steady rides,
The foundation that it was built upon
Was sturdy enough to not be shaken
By anyone telling us what we ought to know.

But now I find myself waking up
To mornings without you.
The atmosphere is no longer familiar,
And the couch is now foreign soil.
But the gritty texture from the powder
Of my morning instant coffee
Suited my palate better
Than the bitter truth I had to swallow.
