Literary: Yesterday in a Box
I was rummaging through my old stuff
When I suddenly spotted a box.
I opened it out of curiosity.
Unexpectedly, all the memories of yesterday came rushing back to me.
I found this pen I kept ever since I saw you using the same one,
The wrappers of the sweets you gave me back in English class,
The keychain you got me from your vacation,
And the good luck note you handed me before our exams.
I still keep the handkerchief you lent me when you saw me crying,
The CD of your favorite songs—the ones you listen when you’re feeling blue,
The movie ticket from that night when we went to the theatre,
And the photograph of us taken during a school program.
Suddenly, all I could hear was our voices
And the sound of my heart thumping
My mind marvels at how, until now we are able fill one small box
With memories of our yesterday.
