Around 200 student leaders from the University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS) took part in the annual leadership camp (LC) held last September 22-23 at the UPIS 7-12 grounds.

The event, led by the Pamunuan ng Kamag-Aral 3-10 (PKA), with the theme “Alab: Iskor Values Pt. 2” aimed to fortify the passion of student leaders for their work and responsibilities.

This year’s LC showcased new workshops and activities, with one of these being the Case Competition. Participants were given a case problem about the challenges and issues faced during the preparation of the Powerdance, and they must come up with solutions to such issues. Then the study was presented to the panel of judges which consists of Prof. Katrina Ortega, Ms. Mia Baygan, and Mr. Carlo Pineda.

Moreover, the plenary sessions were facilitated by Ms. Caith Laguesma of Teach Peace Build Movement and Mr. Elemerei Cuevas, the CEO of Diligence Cafe.

Ms. Laguesma’s talk revolved around the question “What type of leader should you be: Feared or Loved?” She also asked everyone to think about the people they look up to in their life and shared her experiences during the session.

On the other hand, Mr. Cuevas spoke about love for work and importance of having passion on the responsibilities and work we do. He also gave several pieces of advice and tips on how to pursue one’s dream, no matter what the obstacle is.

During the awarding ceremony, Group BonFOUR won 1st place in the Case Competition while Group hONEdog and MarSIYAMellow won 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Miscellaneous awards were given to individuals and groups who stood out in the competition and all throughout the camp. Amira Llaneta from 8-Honeybee, Ynosh Ilagan from 9-Gold and Francheska Candido from 10- Lauan were awarded as the best speakers of the competition and groups Gisdog and Camp Five won the Best Name and Best Cheer, respectively.

“I [want to] say it was fun [but] it was more than just being a fun camp. The events were super productive and fruitful and I learned a lot. It’s memorable” said the PKA President 7-10 Magan Basilio.//by Gabriel Aparato and Gian Palomeno
