bestie,
"Where did you last see it?"
I wonder why they never ask where you first saw something. I wonder why when you lose something they never look for the first time you used it, when he gave you a bracelet you kept under old memories. They never look for the first time you encountered it, like his smile when you first locked gazes right before you guys never crossed paths again. They never search for the first time you saw his name on the list of passers right above yours, only to realize he went to another school.
Why? Because when something's lost, it's easier to remember the last time it was with you. It's easier to memorize the last few minutes before he boarded the plane before he flew and never landed again. It's easier to remember the last time he covered your eyes and made you guess, before he left you guessing 'til the end. It's easier to take into account the last game you played before you lost forever.
We find it easier to find the missing in what's recent. But the thing is, maybe we should look at it from a different vantage point. Maybe we should go back to the start, to the roots, to the first. Maybe we'll find what we lost. Or at least we'll find out why we lost it.
