Feature: TALA: A star on the rise
We all discover new music in a lot of ways, whether because it was playing on the car radio or over the mall speakers, or because we just randomly came across new songs on a music streaming platform.
For this article, let’s talk about the artist I actually discovered because it was playing in the background of someone’s Instagram story.

TALA or Tala Gil is a young artist who produces music mostly under the Pop-R&B genre. She comes from a family of musicians. Her parents met at the U.P. College of Music and her father used to be part of an OPM band called Chillitees around early 2000’s. And if that last name rings a bell to you, that’s because she is related to singer-actress Nikki Gil.
Making her debut in 2017 with her song “nothing personal” she currently has over 64,000 monthly listeners and around 8,500 followers on Spotify.
From melancholic songs like “bruised” (which was actually the song that was playing in the aforementioned IG story) that definitely gives you the feels when you’re feeling romantically sad to upbeat feel-good jams like “boy” and her recently released “ain’t leavin without you,” TALA gives you something to listen to whatever your mood may be.
Her songs usually take inspiration from her experiences or hypothetical situations that pop in her mind except her song “labi” which was originally performed by her dad’s band. Despite being an artist, she still balances school and music currently taking up a degree in Interior Design. We stan an artist who works hard!
Like I’ve mentioned before, we discover music in various ways and hopefully this was one of them. So if you’re interested, make sure to check her Spotify and watch her videos on YouTube under Universal Records Philippines. //by Kiel Dionisio
