UPIS SSH students win in Dyaryologue 2019

Eda White of 10-Apitong brought home first place honors and Pam Marquez of 11-Barros nabbed third place in their respective events at Dyaryologue 2019, a journalism summit hosted by the Union of Journalists of the Philippines-UP (UJP-UP) last September 7, 2019, at the UPFI Film Studio.

White’s entry was selected as the best in the Photojournalism workshop conducted by Mark Kevin Regino, BA Journalism Magna Cum Laude of UP Diliman and teacher at Operation Brotherhood Montessori Center. He instructed participants on how to properly choose and shoot scenes for photojournalism, as well as on how to caption the images.

Meanwhile, Marquez’s news article about her favorite work of fiction entered the top three in the News Writing category. The seminar before the workshop was conducted by Gerwin Tacadena, BA Journalism Cum Laude of UP Diliman and journalist for Key Media International.

Six other UPIS students participated in the seminar-workshop which also included lectures on feature writing by Jobelle Adan, BA Journalism Summa Cum Laude of UP Diliman and writer for Pinoy Weekly and sports writing by Denver Del Rosario, BA Journalism Cum Laude of UP Diliman and Sports Writer for Fox Sports Philippines.

Dyaryologue 2019 is a series of summits followed by workshops intended to instruct high school students on the basics of journalism. It was first held in August and drew more than 200 participants from schools all over Luzon, such as from Bataan and Bulacan.
